A 60 year-old male patient who presented with lumbago, fever, local tenderness over lumbar spine and associated with paravertebral muscle spasm, was prescribed antibiotic therapy 12 days after the onset of initial symptom under the impression of septic lumbar discitis, which was then verified by MRI and microbiology within one week after admission. Early diagnosis and adequate antibiotic therapy gained a favorable result, although the patient needed anterior inlerbody fusion for symptomatic retrolisthesis of L3 on L4 at the sixth week after admission.

A case of 4 years 8 months old girl who had the brain insult was followed till 8 years 1 month old. Precocious puberty with hyperphagia was noted. Results of endocrine testing revealed normal pituitary function, but increased to pubertal level of gonadotropins. Radiological study confirmed posttramatic encephalomalacia at right hemisphere including right ventromedial hypothalamus. This report discussed the medical course of the case including rehabilitation management.

Motor evoked potential (MEP) study by transcranial electric or magnetic stimulation or the motor cortex has been practically used for clinical evaluation of electrophysiological function of the central motor pathway. By using a percutaneous magnetic stimulation over the motor cortex and F-wave measurement from the median nerve stimulation, central motor conduction time (CMCT) from motor cortex to C8 spinal cord was measured in 25 patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) and in 16 healthy subjects. The traditional Chinese performing artist is a special group at the scope of athletic injury. Long term over-training may put excessive stress on the musculoskelelal system. The goal of this study was io evaluate the occurrence of ulnar nerve injuries in students of dramatic school.Total of 47 dramatic school students completed the questionaire, physical examination and electromyographic study.Of 94 hands in 47 students, abnormal EMG finding was noted in 29 subjects, and the incidence rate was 30.9%. To monitor the improvement of muscle performance following Russian stimulation training by muscle strength test and compound muscle action potential (CMAP) recording. 2. ”The purpose of this study is to compare the different nerve conduction responses of median nerve (MN) and Ulanr nerve (UN) in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) after changing the temperature of hands.Thirty hands of CTS group were evaluated and compared to those of normal subjects by exposing the hands for 20 minutes to (1) room temperature (25℃). 926 cases of hand injuries attending the Reha-bilitation Department or Emergency Service of Provincial Taoyuan Hospital from the period between Jan 1990 to May 1992 were studied either through interview (37). telephone (153) or chart review (736). Their pattern and severity of injuries, contributing causes- the present status of recovery and efficacy of rehabilitation were assessed. 78.9% of these injuries were job-related. 63.1% were injured directly by machines. Index finger was the most frequently injured site: middle finger ranked second. for job-relaied injuries. 14.5% of them need hospitalization and they hospitalization for 20.3 (2-180) days on the average. Cervical myelopathy had been noted in patients with involuntary neck movement, especially in individuals with athetoid-dystonic cerebral palsy(CP). The excessive and repeated neck motions were considered to be responsible for the premature spondylosis, which might be the cause of myelopathy. The exact pathophysiology and managements were still controversial. It is not rare for the individuals with bronchiectasis, defining pathologically as a permanently abnormal dilation of subsegmental airways, to develop respiratory insufficiency as respiratory tract infection occurs. This study followed up 59 spinal cord injure(SCI)patients , including 33 quadriplegic and 26 paraplegic.There're 50.8%(30/59) of SCI patients reported upper extremity (UE)pain , most common ar the shoulder . Obesity is a major health problem. There is considerable information regarding the association between excessive body fatness and many health risks. The purpose of this study is to compare the cardiorespiratory responses of female obese subjects and normal-weight women during cycle ergometry. The obese group included 23 female subjects with mean age of 39.6±3.2 years (range: 19-57 yrs.). In a prospective study we applied electroacupuncture, according to the concepts of Traditional Chinese Medicine and previous studies of electrostimulation, to patients suffering from post-stroke paresthesia.Electroacupuncture over the head and limbs was applied to 20 patients with post-stroke paresthesia. All patients received brain CT scan examination of which most revealed subcortical lesions (19 subcorlicai lesions and 1middle cerebral arterial territory infarction). The duration of treatment was thirty minutes and each patient received electroacupuncture treatment once per week for 3 months. This is a case of 69-year-old male patient who suffered from cerebral infarction with right-sided hemiplegia, transient motor aphasia, suspected thalamic syndrome, impaired activity of daily living and partial dependence. There were no past history of D.M. psychosis or other significant diseases except mild hypertension under thiazide control, also no family history of suicide or other hereditary diseases.Post-stroke depression had developed progressively since March 1993 including insomnia, fatigue indifference, anorexia, moodiness. Neuronal dropout accompanied with axonal degeneration may occur below the level of cord lesion after spinal cord injury (SCI). By using a sensitive electrodiagnostic method of stimulated single fiber electromyography (SFEMG), it is possible to assess the functional integrity of neuromuscular transmission in paralytic muscles of SCI. Neuromuscular jitter and fiber density were measured in 21 anterior tibial muscles of 18 patients with SCI and 11 muscles in 11 normal controls. SMagnetic stimulation applied to the scalp over the normal motor cortex caused short latency response of contralateral limb muscles. 12 patients with unilateral subcortical stroke for the first time were selected. They had hemiparesis and good motor recovery up to individual finger movements, although mild weakness and clumsiness of affected limbs were still complainted of. Of the twelve patients (eleven men and one woman) the mean age were 54.8±9.3 years. Lesion sites included basal ganglia, thalamus and corona radiata, with six hemorrhage and six infarction. From 1989 to 1991, five cases of humeral shaft fractures and one case of ulnar shaft pathological fracture were treated with the low temperature thermoplastic functional fracture brace, while three cases of lumbar spine fractures were treated with a custom-made spinal brace molded by low temperature thermoplastics.All patients with humeral shaft fractures achieved bone healing within 8 to 12 weeks. The authors followed up 208 stroke patients after their discharges from Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Kaohsiung Medical Center to examine the improvements of their ambulatory function. This study was designed to compare the difference of the ambulatory functional status between discharge and follow-up in order to identify the factors that influenced the progress during this period. It showed that most patients (44.23%) got continuous improvements in their ambulatory function after their discharges. An accepting, rather than non-accepting attitude of patients and family helped patients to get better outcome. Post-Stroke Proximal Femoral Fracture (PSPFF) is not uncommon. In the study, We had followed up 156 patients with Proximal Femoral Fracture (PFF) happened during Jul. 1987 and Dec. 1990 via OPD for 1 year to 4 and a half years. Some patients being unable to visit our clinic were followed up by phone or by the chart record. The focus was on the 28 cases with Stroke prior to the PFF.We found PSPFF is apt to happen in cases with motor status around Brunnstrom Stage III&IV.
