This second in a series of interviews with Dr. David Buzzard, first Director of Communications for the Wright State University School of Medicine, is divided into two parts. Kolmen takes as its central theme the development of the bylaws for the School of Medicine, which Dr. Kolmen worked on as one of his first priorities upon arriving at Wright State University in 1975. Areas covered under the bylaws theme include: establishment of committee constituencies within School of Medicine committees; the political structure of the School of Medicine; the non-tenure system of the School of Medicine; policymaking in the School; the impact of the bylaws on the development of the School of Medicine and its integration into the university community.

The sixth and final interview with Dr. John Beljan, founding Dean of the Wright State University School of Medicine, begins with a discussion of the challenges faced in integrating the Wright State University School of Medicine into the University community. Dr. Beljan discusses his thoughts on his inter-relationships with Wright State University President Dr. Robert Kegerreis, former Wright State University Provost Dr. Andrew Speigel, and others.

Dr. Beljan also reflects on the past and present development of the School of Medicine and explores possible future goals and areas of development.

This fifth of six interviews with the founding Dean of the Wright State University School of Medicine, Dr. John Beljan, deals with two major areas. The first area is Faculty/Staff recruiting in which Dr. Beljan discusses the methods, priorities, and focuses of the recruiting efforts of the School of Medicine staff. Several key individuals are highlighted.

The second area deals with the development of the Residency Programs inherited and initiated by the Wright State University School of Medicine. Although each program is examined in turn, two distinctly different Residency Programs are highlighted, the Aerospace Medicine and Emergency Medicine Residency Programs.

In this interview, Mrs. John Beljan discusses her thoughts and feelings about coming to Dayton, Ohio with her husband, Dean Beljan, and her role as the Dean's wife in promoting the School of Medicine. Mrs. Beljan also discusses the role she played in the recruiting of faculty for the Wright State University School of Medicine.

In the fourth interview, Dr. Beljan discusses in-depth the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME) accreditation process and the various visits of the LCME to the Wright State University School of Medicine. The nature of the LCME, its powers, responsibilities, and focus are examined in detail by Dr. Beljan, as are his thoughts on the nature and function of the LCME in connection to the development of the Wright State School of Medicine.

In this third interview, Dr. Beljan discusses the development of the affiliation agreements between Wright State and the area hospitals. Dr. Beljan also discusses the development of the Joint Coordinating Committees; the positions of Associate Dean for Hospital Affairs, Veteran's Affairs, and Air Force Affairs; the affiliation with the Veterans Administration and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base; the role of the Greene and Montgomery County Medical Societies and the sources of funding for the School of Medicine. The interview closes with a discussion of the mergers of the Cox Heart Laboratory for Cancer Research, with the School of Medicine.
