Coparents and partners of African American mothers are critical in the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding and influence a woman’s decision to breastfeed. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the experience of coparents/partners of African American mothers participating in breastfeeding education and its impact on the support they provide. Bandura’s social cognitive theory provided the theoretical foundation for this study. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews with 11 participants. Data analysis followed the traditional seven steps of interpretative phenomenological analysis. Following a 16% increase in patient falls from 2023 to 2024 in an inpatient psychiatric detoxification unit, a quality improvement education project was implemented to assess the impact of an evidence-based fall prevention bundle on fall rates and nursing compliance. Nurses received education through a PowerPoint presentation to enhance understanding and implementation of the bundle, which included Edmonson reassessments after high-risk medication administration, ISHAPED bedside shift handoffs, care plan updates, and SWIFT daily safety huddles. This Doctor of Nursing Practice education project focused on improving staff knowledge of medication reconciliation through an evidence-based educational intervention in an outpatient clinic. Medication reconciliation is crucial for ensuring accurate and consistent medication lists across care transitions, helping to prevent errors, such as omissions, duplications, dosing mistakes, and drug interactions. The project’s central question was whether staff education on an evidence-based approach to medication reconciliation would improve staff knowledge. This project was a quality improvement staff education program to address the increase in hospital-acquired infections in the project facility. The hospital administrator identified that staff were overwhelmed and may not be consistently implementing appropriate infection control practices. If infection control practices are not addressed in hospitals system, there would be a much higher rate of hospital-acquired diseases among hospitalized patients and the staff. The aim of this staff education project was to improve provider knowledge on using the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) for screening depression in older adults. Geriatric depression is often underdiagnosed due to atypical symptoms and reliance on generalized tools such as the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), leading to delays in treatment and increased health care costs. To address this gap, I collaborated with a librarian to conduct a literature search, initially identifying 149 articles and refining them to 20 for review. A notable gap existed in the healthcare staff's knowledge of evidence-based lifestyle modifications for patients with diabetes within outpatient internal medicine (OP IM) settings. The increasing prevalence of Type 2 diabetes emphasizes the urgent necessity for a structured educational framework to enhance staff understanding. In this project, I evaluated the efficacy of organized staff education in enhancing healthcare providers' confidence related to diabetes management. Prediabetes affects over 4 million people in New York State and increases the risk of Type 2 diabetes. Prior research identified risk factors such as poor diet, inactivity, obesity, hypertension, and smoking; but no studies examined these collectively or assessed their interactions. This quantitative, cross-sectional study analyzed a sample of 289 non-institutionalized adults aged 18 or older with landline or cellular phone, from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. Adolescents and young adults represent many of the new sexually transmitted infections diagnosed each year in the United States, with pronounced disparities among minority racial and ethnic groups. This study examined 3,480 participants aged 15-24 from the 2017-2019 National Survey on Family Growth to explore the influence of race and socioeconomic status (SES) on the likelihood and comprehensiveness of parental sex education before the age of 18, using the Intersectionality Theory and Social Determinants of Health as frameworks. This doctor of nursing practice (DNP) project presents an organizational quality improvement initiative implementing a text message reminder system to decrease appointment no-show rates in the outpatient mental health clinic. The project was developed based on the high rate of appointment no-shows at the DNP project site. Appointment no-shows are costly to both clinics and patients. Clinics experience decreased revenue and efficiency, and patient outcomes can be compromised. Depression represents a significant public health concern that often remains undiagnosed or untreated, primarily due to insufficient systematic screening in primary care settings. The lack of standardized screening tools such as the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) elevates patient risks, increasing symptom severity, increasing suicide rates, and delaying interventions. COVID-19 has put immense pressure on healthcare facilities, especially in managing patients with comorbidity. This study addressed the association between two important coinfections, congestive heart failure (CHF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and their effect on hospital length of stay (LOS) among COVID-19 patients. The study also explored the predictive role of the inflammatory biomarker C-reactive protein (CRP) in prolonged hospitalization, also considering the influence of age and race.
