During the COVID-19 pandemic, African American adolescents experienced reduced access to needed resources and may have suffered poorer mental health outcomes as a result. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the association between race and the availability of mental health resources, food, medical health resources and mental health outcomes among African American adolescents in the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to their White counterparts. This doctoral project evaluated the impact of a staff education program aimed at increasing healthcare workers' awareness of workplace stress dangers among teammates in an outpatient hemodialysis center. The identified practice issue was limited knowledge about the facilitators, adverse outcomes, and resources related to occupational stress in healthcare. Lack of education regarding the risks of work-related stress presents a critical concern in nursing practice, significantly affecting caregiver well-being and patient outcomes. Despite the known benefits of physical activity (PA), more than half of U.S. adults do not meet the American College of Sports Medicine’s PA recommendations for health, often resulting in negative health outcomes. Developing programming that increases motivation for PA participation is critical for healthcare professionals to combat physical inactivity. Previous research has demonstrated that framing disease-based PA charity fundraising events as “helping a cause” improved motivation for PA due to the individual’s emotional connection to the cause. HIV prevention and treatment disparities persist among men in Virginia, particularly in racial and ethnic minority groups. This study examined how insurance type and demographic factors influence prescriptions for antiretroviral treatment (ART) and preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Addressing these disparities is critical to advancing public health equity and reducing HIV rates. This project addresses the often-overlooked epidemic of intimate partner violence (IPV) in primary care settings through a novel staff education and quality improvement initiative focused on transforming screening practices. While many healthcare organizations have established wound documentation protocols, maintaining consistent, high-quality documentation remains a widespread challenge in clinical practice. In this staff education project, I addressed the implementation of a staff education program to increase nurses' knowledge about evidence-based practices regarding wound documentation. The staff education initiative was conducted in a medical telemetry unit, with 17 nurses participating. A pretest-posttest design was employed to evaluate the impact of the education. The aggregate pretest and posttest scores were analyzed using the Normalized Learning Gain (NLG) formula. The NLG gain of 0.37, equated to a 37% improvement in knowledge a moderate …

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a significant public health concern globally and in Owerri, southeast Nigeria. The deleterious effects of diabetes have been linked to poor glycemic control. Adolescent completion of pertussis-containing vaccines is a public health concern, especially with rising online anti-vaccine misinformation. Incomplete vaccination increases risk for preventable diseases and impacts community health. A gap in the literature on the relationship between online anti-vaccine search trends during the COVID-19 pandemic and adolescent pertussis vaccine completion was addressed in this quantitative, repeated cross-sectional study. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project addressed a practice gap in pain management among nursing staff in the rehabilitation unit. Frequent pain-related patient calls contributed to inconsistent clinical practices. This project aimed to evaluate whether a brief, evidence-based educational intervention could enhance nurses’ knowledge of pain management. 47 registered nurses participated in an educational module delivered during both day and night shifts. Pre- and post-test scores were collected and analyzed to assess knowledge acquisition. T-test results indicated a statistically significant improvement in nurses’ pain management knowledge. Summary: Treatment noncompliance is a significant problem within the realm of mental health care. Recurrent noncompliance increases symptom severity, the likelihood of a crisis, and the burden placed on mental health care resources. Motivational interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based practice (EBP) demonstrated through extensive research to positively affect patient outcomes. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) staff education project focused on improving the knowledge and confidence of psychiatric outpatient clinic staff in administering and interpreting the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), a critical tool for depression screening. Given the high prevalence of depression and disparities in mental health care, inconsistent PHQ-9 use can lead to delayed diagnoses and unequal access to treatment. Addressing this gap is both a clinical priority and a matter of social justice. I delivered a 2-hour educational program for 17 staff members to improve screening practices.
