AbstractThe purpose of this DNP project was to explore new graduate nurse (NGN) residency program retention data in a large healthcare system to assess if participant retention met or exceeded identified retention benchmarks. The second project question explored NGNs’ reasons for leaving the organization after the first year of experience. The Plan Do Study Act model framed this quality improvement evaluation project. Effective communication is vital to nursing practice, as it can ensure quality care delivery and promote positive patient and organizational outcomes. In most organizations, the exchange of information between nurses is done during the end of shift (EOS) reporting. The purpose of this DNP project was to determine if an educational intervention focused on effective communication in EOS reporting increased knowledge and confidence among nurses working in a home healthcare setting. Hunger and food insecurity are public health issues with 38 million people in the US struggling with food hardship. This study examined if there was a relationship between four types of social capital (SC) (bonding, bridging, community structural-formal, and community structural-informal), income, and food insecurity risk (FIR), in two counties in Wisconsin. The highest rate of prostate cancer is found in males of African American ethnicity, as males within this cohort are 50% more likely to develop prostate cancer than other ethnicities. Central line associated blood stream infections (CLABSIs) are the most acquired hospital infection in the United States. CLABSI is caused by bacteria that enter the bloodstream through a central line. In the United States, CLABSI has a mortality rate of 18%, and every year 250,000 people are infected. Of these, 30,000 patients die due to CLABSI infections, hospital stays are prolonged, and hospital costs are increased. During the transition to practice, new graduate nurses (NGNs) face conflict and uncertainty influenced by lack of resiliency and self-care knowledge. In a rural hospital, NGNs had minimal standardized guidance during the transition to practice.
