In 2016, there were 17,072 people living with HIV in Puerto Rico. Most HIV cases were among men, with the primary mode of transmission identified as men who have sex with other men followed by heterosexual contact. Among women, heterosexual contact was the primary mode of HIV transmission. Teachers, administrators, students, and communities are trying to cope with the aftermath of gun violence at schools. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to identify coping mechanisms among teachers and administrators after experiencing gun violence at school. Concussions are a major public health issue that impacts a variety of persons. Cheerleading is an emerging popular sport that has seen increased participation. Minimal information about cheerleading and concussions is known. This study aimed to investigate sustaining a concussion as a cheerleader while accounting for demographics (age, race, and gender), mechanism of injury, and injury setting. The Worry Of Food Insecurity And The Manifestation Of Generalized Anxiety In Relation To Perceived Health Status, Ramona Lynnette Taylor

This study examined the association between the worry of food insecurity and the manifestation of generalized anxiety, and how these factors related to perceived health status among adults aged 18 years and older in the U.S. The study controlled demographic factors such as gender, age, race, and education. Utilizing data from the 2019 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), a binomial logistic regression analysis was employed. The findings indicated a significant association between those persons who often worry about food insecurity, severe (OR = 7.324, p < .001) and frequent generalized anxiety (OR = 5.185, p < .001) suggesting that individuals who worry about food insecurity have higher odds of experiencing severe and frequent (more than 3 times per week) generalized anxiety. Furthermore, both the worry of food insecurity in persons not sure (OR = 0.120, p = 0.004) and generalized anxiety (OR = 0.623 for severe anxiety, p = 0.009) were found to be significantly associated with lower perceived health status. These results suggest a potential association between worry about food insecurity and negative impacts on mental health and perceived overall well-being. Overall, these findings underscore the significant impact of food insecurity on mental health. Further research, including experimental and longitudinal studies, is necessary to elucidate the causal relationship between food insecurity and the manifestation of generalized anxiety in order to impact positive social change.

High rates of pregnancies and childbirth contribute to a heightened risk of maternal mortality among women between 15 and 49 in Liberia. Most women are uninformed about their maternal risk behaviors, symptom severity, and delayed care-seeking. In 2012, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force revised its prostate cancer screening recommendations to advocate against the routine use of prostate-specific antigen-based testing. This cross-sectional study of a large dataset from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program compared PSA-based diagnoses made from 2006 to 2011 to those from 2013 to 2018. The study aimed to address the impact of the change in recommendation on survival and stage at diagnosis in prostate cancer patients. Perinatal depression among Black women results in significant public health burdens, interacting with systemic disparities to create disproportionate risks of adverse birth outcomes. The present study explored the moderating effect of pregnancy intention on the relationship between perinatal depression and adverse birth outcomes such as low birth weight and preterm delivery among Black women living in the southern United States. A predominant health issue at colleges and universities is alcohol use. This is also true for deaf and hard of hearing college students. Key stakeholders who observe and witness this alcohol dynamic are staff. Researchers used a semi-structured qualitative guide to interview Gallaudet University staff (N = 26) to learn about their perspectives on and experiences with student alcohol use. There is a worldwide nursing shortage that has been heightened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Several factors have contributed to the worsening shortage, including high attrition rates in nursing programs. Retention strategies have been suggested to support nursing students during their education to have success and graduate. The purpose of this descriptive qualitative study was to explore how nursing students experience retention strategies and their perceived contributions to academic progress. Human papillomavirus (HPV) represents the most prevalent sexually transmitted infection in the United States. Despite readily available safe and effective vaccines and established knowledge of influencing factors, HPV vaccination rates in the United States remain suboptimal, particularly among adolescent males. This quantitative study addressed this gap by investigating the association between geographic location, race, and socioeconomic status with HPV vaccination uptake in adolescent males. A secondary data analysis was conducted using the 2022 National Immunization Survey (NIS)—Teen, comprised of 22,667 adolescent males.
