Although the Covid-19 pandemic emerged in 2020, limited information about how the virus affects adolescents regarding long-term health risks is available. This quantitative study focused on the effect of U.S. adolescents' daily diet, race/ethnicity, levels of income, access to health care, age, and comorbidities on the risks of long Covid-19 syndrome. The constructs of the health belief model were used to understand the impact of those variables. This clinical practice guideline (CPG) initiative addressed the rising patient fall rates at an inpatient general care neurology unit (GCNU) in North Carolina. Falls are a leading cause of preventable injury, yet the facility lacked evidence-based (EB) fall prevention practices. This doctoral project developed a CPG for GCNU fall prevention, which was evaluated by an expert panel using the AGREE II instrument. A literature review identified 20 studies assessed via the Johns Hopkins model, which informed the CPG. Expert review scored the CPG at 100% in all domains, leading to its approval for clinical use. This education project was to introduce nurse managers to the evidence-based practice of daily purposeful leader rounding on all staff in this acute care facility. The need for practice change was evidenced by low all employee survey and the Survey of Healthcare Experience of Patients (SHEP) results; low retention rates throughout the inpatients units; and an increase of patient safety events in fiscal year 2023. Hypertension (HTN) is the chief cause of cardiovascular disease in the United States. Due to the mortality and morbidity and the increased healthcare costs associated with HTN, nursing staff need to have knowledge to control and help patients manage the condition. HTN disproportionately affects African American men due to non-adherence to medication, lifestyle issues, and health disparities. The emotional and or physical trauma that individuals sustained while growing up may continue to adversely affect their health as adults, leading to mental health issues, depression, substance use, anxiety and secondary trauma. The prevalence of this trauma widely unacknowledged among mental healthcare staff. Trauma prevention is crucial and can be achieved through educational interventions. In clinical settings, this can prevent staff high turnover, leaving the profession, disengagement, hypervigilance, and overinvolvement. Ineffective assessment and management of patients’ withdrawal symptoms may result in deterioration of their condition and require further aggressive treatment. Patients who have been diagnosed with serious diseases or disabilities—including mental illnesses, starting in March 2024—may meet the requirements to seek medically assisted suicide. Reducing maternal mortality rates is one of the leading health indicators in the nation. Pregnant and postpartum Black mothers make up a disproportionate number of maternal deaths. Many result from failure to rescue (FTR), defined as the inability to prevent a death from a disease, illness, or complication. Over 700 women die daily from preventable causes related to pregnancy. Black patients are attributable to almost 40% of maternity mortality rates and represent over 50% of pregnancy-related deaths due to complications. In this exploratory study, we examined the understudied relationship between body composition and sexual behavior among freshmen college students, addressing a gap in empirical research. Our sample consisted of 217 nonclinical college students recruited from a university in the southwestern United States; a majority of the students were Hispanic (70%) and freshmen (95%). Using multivariate logistic regression, we explored associations of body mass index, body fat percentage, and fat mass index with sexual behaviors. More than half of the participants were either overweight (22.5%) or obese (30.4%), and nearly 70% fell outside the healthy range of body fat. Results showed …

Summary A clinical practice guideline (CPG) was developed because the perinatal department lacked standardized management of pregestational and gestational diabetes. The practice issue is relevant since managing maternal glucose ranges during pregnancy mitigates adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. The practice-focused question asks, “What are the best practices to manage diabetes in the intrapartum and postpartum settings?” The project was designed to develop an evidence-based protocol to provide standardized management for nurses and providers. There is limited information on the impact on Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) case managers’ job satisfaction as COVID-19 policies altered the way their jobs were performed. Many HCBS case managers in the United States experience high levels of turnover and burnout, resulting in difficulty maintaining appropriate service levels.
