Purpose The purpose of this study was to analyze the admissions process of the University of Nevada Las Vegas Physical Therapy (UNLVPT) program through the lens of racial equity. Methods A retrospective cohort of UNLVPT applicants between 2014-2019 was obtained from the physical therapy centralized admissions system and the UNLVPT admissions office. Applicant and application characteristics were compared by racial group. Results: Our sample included 2937 total applicants with 212 (7.2%) that were admitted and matriculated into the program. Applicants identified as 49% White, 24% Asian, 13% multiracial, 6% Hispanic, 2% Black, 0.2% American Indian, and 6% did not report …

Improved health-related outcomes for individuals 18 years or older living with a chronic condition or multiple chronic conditions can be positively impacted by health and wellness coaching. As Ovidian myth is a central influence on queer stories throughout time, I am interested in how the female/sapphic gaze impacts the retellings of these narratives. In this thesis, I analyze the action of the gaze as an expression of desire and discuss its multiple meanings in both text and performance. Through tracing the gaze within the queer/sapphic narratives of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and Sciamma’s Portrait of a Lady on Fire, I show that the gaze is an intersecting act through which non-normative desire is conveyed. Virtual reality refers to the technology used to create multi-sensory, three-dimensional environments its users can interact with. Occupational therapists may find virtual reality-based therapy appealing as it allows them to access many virtual environments and tasks that would be difficult to recreate in traditional settings. This thesis first aims to understand how a part of the computed tomography (CT) algorithm called “forward projector” (FP) works and how it can be accelerated at a hardware level. Two methods of FP are defined and studied: pixel-driven and ray-driven. Both methods fundamentally use the property of line integral and Bresenham’s algorithm. As the result of the study of the two FP methods, the ray-driven algorithm implemented in C++ performed 35% faster than the pixe-driven algorithm implemented in Python.This thesis implements the ray-driven forward projector algorithm using field-programmable gate array (FPGA), making use of hardware-acceleration techniques. In 2019, 754 maternal deaths were reported; in 2020, 861 deaths were reported. In a span of one year, the maternal mortality rate increased by 14% (CDC,2022). Background: Despite 2D motion analysis being deemed valid and reliable in assessing gait deviations in runners, current use of video-based motion analysis among orthopedic physical therapists is not prevalent. Purpose/Hypothesis: To investigate clinician-perceived effectiveness, adherence, and barriers of using a 2D running gait analysis protocol for patients with running-related injuries. Study Design: Survey Methods: Thirty outpatient physical therapy clinics were contacted to assess interest in participation. Three student learners in a doctoral physical therapy program completed a service-based learning project dedicated to reducing falls in the elderly. The program, called Stepping On, is a fall prevention initiative supported by the Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging (WIHA) whose goal is to identify risk factors for falls in the older population and provide exercises and recommendations to reduce falls. The eleven volunteer participants in this student learners’ Stepping On program completed online fall prevention classes and provided feedback at the completion of the program. Participants reported being more conscientious while walking and noted improved balance and flexibility.

The objective of this study was to develop a predictive model that utilizes a Light Gradient Boosting Machine (Light-GBM) to accurately assess the risk of severe radiation-induced toxicities in cancer patients undergoing chemoradiotherapy. The occurrence of these toxicities can have a substantial impact on the patients' quality of life. CHD can be identified by assessing the joint laxity, femoral head coverage and wear on the hip joint. The goal is to develop an understanding of the intraarticular mechanics of the hip joint and how hip-joint dysfunction impacts these mechanics. Child sexual abuse, even when accounting for co-occuring risk factors, may be predictive of worse clinical outcomes when comparing to other types of trauma (Kisiel et al., 2014). However, contrasting research suggests that psychological maltreatment may independently contribute to a negative risk of clinical outcomes comparable to child sexual abuse (Hodgon et al., 2014). Research which investigates the unique relationship between sexual abuse and interpersonal difficulties among youth with a history of child maltreatment is limited. The present study aimed to investigate interpersonal functioning differences in maltreated youth who have and have not experienced sexual abuse.

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5-TR) defines dissociation as “disruption in the usually integrated functions of consciousness, memory, identity or perception of the environment”11. Dissociation most commonly occurs after a traumatic experience and can take many forms; Subtypes include dissociative amnesia, absorption and imaginative involvement, passive influence, and depersonalization and derealization. Dissociation has been linked to several negative outcomes such as increased risk for development of personality disorders, suicidal ideation, and self-harm2,3.
