John Dewey once said that “education is not an affair of ‘telling’ and being told, but an active and constructive process.” Accordingly, pedagogical processes should not simply be conducted by traditional lecturing, but rather, they should be constructive processes that gradually build the meaning-making process of the children through their active participation. Therefore, this paper aims to suggest materials that integrate English learning and LSE that are specifically designed for Indonesian children. As a follow-up project from the previous program, the current community service focuses on the implementation of life skills education (LSE) by integrating LSE with English learning in …

The purpose of this case study is to determine the effect of diaphragmatic breathing and endurance exercise in hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP). Nosocomial pneumonia that occurs in 48 hours or more after the patient admitted to the hospital, without any signs of pulmonary infection. The existence of clinical manifestations that appear, patients with HAP tend to avoid physical activity which can decrease the functional capacity of the respiratory system and have an impact on decreasing endurance. Diaphragmatic breathing exercise is thought to be able to help reduce shortness of breath, reduce the work of the accessory muscles of breathing, improve breathing …

Handwashing plays an essential role in overcoming health problems. Washing hands is a straightforward exercise but will not be done if not adequately informed and drilled on it. School-age children are a vulnerable group relative to health problems, but at the same time, is an excellent group to be given appropriate education. Educating school- age children on the importance of washing their hands is critical to improving health behavior. This community-based research aims to increase school-age children’s handwashing knowledge, attitudes, and practices using a game-based educational program. As a result, there are improvements in the handwashing behavior of around a …

Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development
Boron is a vital trace element required by plants, humans, and animals. It is also a significant element used in several industries. Along with the widespread usage of boron, boron waste progressively contaminates the potable water sources as well as causing a chain of environmental and health challenges to occur. This study reviews the techniques used for boron removal from aqueous solutions, including ion exchange, resin adsorption, reverse osmosis (RO), electrocoagulation, microfiltration, chemical coagulation, solvent extraction, electro dialytic, and hybrid processes. A review search was carried out from the databases Scopus, PubMed, Web of Knowledge, and Embase using the following …

With around 5.6 million tons of annual plastic consumption and merely 7 percent plastic recycling rate, Indonesia is facing a plastic pollution crisis. The recent progress of Indonesia’s recycling industries has provided an asset to address this crisis. In 2017, the domestic post-consumption plastic waste could only fulfil around 24 percent the domestic needs for recycled plastic, which stands at 1.65 million ton/year. Leveraging the plastic waste ‘asset’ through circular economy can fill this demand gap. A five-month study was conducted to analyse the recycling rate of Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and Polypropylene (PP)-based beverage plastic packaging in Greater Jakarta Metropolitan …

Cervical syndrome is a collection of symptoms, especially pain around the cervical spine. Pain in cervical syndrome is more common in conditions related to the deformity of the cervical vertebrae, one of which is a flat neck or conditions where cervical lordosis is reduced. When the lordosis curve disappears, the vertical load will be redistributed along the anterior portion of the cervical spine, causing pressure on soft tissue and surrounding bone. This can lead to various musculoskeletal problems. The combination of manual therapy and exercise is suggested to reduce problems such as pain, limitations of the range of motion (ROM), …

Introduction. Patients with moderate and severe COVID-19 generally receive antibiotic therapy with consideration of the possibility of co-infection or secondary bacterial infection which clinically is difficult to distinguish from COVID-19 symptoms. Overuse of antibiotics can lead to an increased risk of bacterial resistance to antibiotics which is associated with poor outcomes in COVID-19 patients. This study aimed to assess the effect of early antibiotic administration on mortality in moderate and severe COVID-19 patients. Methods. An observational study with a retrospective cohort design was conducted at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital. Data were obtained from medical records of patients admitted from March …

Nevoid Basal Cell Carcinoma Syndrome, also called as Gorlin Gotz syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by the presence of multiple odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs) of the jaw, basal cell carcinomas and skeletal anomalies. Presence of multiple OKCs is the first clinical manifestation in majority of the cases. Early diagnosis and treatment are of utmost importance in reducing the severity of this syndrome. We hereby report a rare case of Gorlin Goltz syndrome in a 28 years old female patient who presented with multiple cystic lesions in the jaws. Present case also highlights the clinical, radiographic and histopathologic features of …

Background: Longitudinal melanonychia (LM) describes a longitudinal brown-to-black band of discoloration affecting a finger, thumb, or toenail. Discoloration of the nails can be a sign of benign or malignant nail disorders. Although nail melanoma rarely occurs in children, health practitioners should be aware of melanonychia. Dermoscopy and histopathology are helpful in the diagnosis.
Case Illustration: A case of LM in a thirteen-year-old girl was reported with a complaint of brownish-black discoloration, sometimes painful, on her right thumb since 1 year ago. She had no history of trauma, nail damage, or bleeding tendency. Dermatological examination found a homogeneous brownish-black …
