Purpose: To examine the feasibility and potential efficacy of pre-surgical exercise in patients with bladder cancer scheduled for open radical cystectomy with follow-up post-surgery. Methods: Prospective single-group design with assessments at baseline, pre-surgery and 3 months post-surgery. Multimodal supervised resistance and aerobic exercise was undertaken 2-3 days/week at moderate intensity for a median of 3.5 (IQR 1.3-5.6) weeks. Feasibility was assessed by recruitment and completion rates, patient safety, program tolerance, adherence, and compliance. Background: We aimed to examine separate and joint associations of remnant cholesterol (RC) accumulation and variability with the risk of carotid atherosclerosis (CAS) in the general population. Methods and Results: A total of 6213 participants who underwent 3 sequential health examinations during 2010 to 2015 were enrolled and were followed up until December 31, 2021. INTRODUCTION: A coronary artery calcium (CAC) CT scan can identify calcified plaque and predict risk of future cardiac events. Cancer survivors undergoing thoracic radiotherapy routinely undergo a planning CT scan, which presents a unique opportunity to use already obtained medical imaging to identify those at the highest risk of cardiac events. While radiation therapy is an important modality for many cancer treatments, radiation dose to the heart in thoracic radiotherapy leads to cardiotoxicity and may accelerate pre-existing atherosclerosis. BACKGROUND: The causal relationship between blood pressure variability (BPV) and arterial stiffness remains debated. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore the temporal and bidirectional associations between long-term BPV and arterial stiffness using a cohort design with multiple surveys. METHODS: Participants from the Beijing Health Management Cohort who underwent health examinations from visit 1 (2010-2011) to visit 5 (2018-2019) were enrolled in this study. Early onset Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), including obesity, allergies, and mental ill-health in childhood, present a serious and increasing threat to lifelong health and longevity. The ORGINS Project (ORIGINS) addresses the urgent need for multidisciplinary efforts to understand the detrimental multisystem impacts of modern environments using well-curated large-scale longitudinal biological sample collections. Background and aims: Recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB) is a hereditary, rare, devastating and life-threatening skin fragility disorder with a high unmet medical need. In a recent international, single-arm clinical trial, treatment of 16 patients (aged 6–36 years) with three intravenous infusions of 2 × 106 immunomodulatory ABCB5+ dermal mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs)/kg on days 0, 17 and 35 reduced disease activity, itch and pain. The limbus, the vascularized junction between the cornea and conjunctiva, is thought to function as a barrier against corneal neovascularization. However, the exact mechanisms regulating this remain unknown. In this study, the limbal epithelial stem cell (LESC) marker ABCB5 was used to investigate the role of LESCs in corneal neovascularization. In an ABCB5KO model, a mild but significant increase of limbal lymphatic and blood vascular network complexity was observed in developing mice (4 weeks) but not in adult mice. Background: Visceral obesity and insulin resistance contribute to developing cardiometabolic syndrome (MetS). We investigated the predictive abilities of lipid accumulation product (LAP), waist circumference-triglyceride index (WTI), and triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index for MetS screening among the general Ghanaian adults. Methods: The final prospective analysis included 4740 healthy adults aged 30–90 years from three communities comprising Ejisu, Konongo, and Ashanti Akim Agogo in Ghana. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) has emerged as an important bioanalytical method for assessing the pharmacokinetics of human-cell-based medicinal products after xenotransplantation into immunodeficient mice. Introduction The present study tested the hypothesis that eccentric training (ET) of nonimmobilized arm would attenuate negative effects of immobilization and provide greater protective effects against muscle damage induced by eccentric exercise after immobilization, when compared with concentric training (CT). Methods Sedentary young men were placed to ET, CT, or control group (n = 12 per group), and their nondominant arms were immobilized for 3 wk. Traditionally considered a human healthcare-related disease, increases in community-associated C. difficile infection (CDI) and growing evidence of inter-species transmission suggest a wider perspective is required for CDI control. In horses, C. difficile is a major cause of diarrhoea and life-threatening colitis. We examine the hypothesis that internal dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) structural variables measured at the femoral neck and trochanter cross sections will improve prediction of fractures at these sites in addition to areal BMD (aBMD). Accurate discrimination of Shigella spp. sits in the core of shigellosis prevention and control. As a label-free method, surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is being intensively investigated for bacterial diagnostics. Background: Out-of-hospital births (OOHBs) are rare representing ∼0.05% of prehospital callouts. OOHBs are at increased risk of complications including life-threatening conditions such as postpartum haemorrhage and neonate resuscitation. This research investigated Australian paramedics perceptions of’ training, experience, and confidence with OOHBs. Methods: Semi-structured qualitative interviews were undertaken in late 2021 via online conference or face-to-face. Sessions were audio-recorded and transcribed. Background: Evidence suggests that immunoglobulin G (IgG) N-glycosylation is associated with ischemic stroke (IS). However, the causality of IgG N-glycosylation for IS remains unknown. Methods: Two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were performed to investigate the potential causal effects of genetically determined IgG N-glycans on IS using publicly available summarized genetic data from East Asian and European populations. Childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus (cSLE) impacts the daily life of children and young people. This study aimed to describe the experiences and perspectives of children and young people living with cSLE. An integrative review guided by Whittemore and Knafl was conducted.
