Management Of A Failing Implant Using Guided Bone Regeneration And Esthetic Crown Lengthening In The Esthetic Zone; A Case Report, Bassam M. Kinaia Dds, Ms, Dicoi, Mirranda Kinaia Bs, Roksolana Gala Dds, Ms, Ashleigh Turows Dds, Ms, Anthony L. Neely Dds, Mdentsc, Phd
The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association
A 34-year-old female presented with a failing implant in the esthetic zone. The implant was removed, and the site was reconstructed with guided bone regeneration and a pedicle connective tissue graft. Esthetic crown lengthening was performed on the adjacent teeth to create a harmonious gingival symmetry. Full ceramic crowns were placed on all teeth, including an implant-supported fixed partial denture. Follow-ups at 3, 6, and 12 months showed proper healing with healthy soft tissues and correct bilateral gingival symmetry. The pink and white esthetic scores improved from 8.7 pre-operatively to 19.2 post-final restorations. The patient was pleased with the esthetic …

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Security Rule mandates periodic security risk analyses (SRA) to assess compliance. This analysis evaluates threats and vulnerabilities to electronic protected health information (EPHI) and considers all devices connected to a network. While the Security Rule is flexible, small organizations must still adhere to its standards. IT vendors and staff play a crucial role in implementing HIPAA safeguards. Flapless approach to implant surgery is emerging as a viable alternative to traditional implant surgery, where a full thickness flap is raised and the alveolar bone is exposed for placement of dental implants. However, there are several disadvantages of the traditional approach including patient morbidity, bleeding and post-operative complications. Oral cancer resections cause tissue defects which result in functional complications such as masticatory dysfunction, dysphagia, articulation and phonation issues. When the defect involves the maxillary arch, obturation is needed whether it be surgical or prosthetic. In cases where surgical procedures become ineffective, prosthetic options could be challenging. This is a case of a 78-year-old male developed the diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma of the right alveolar ridge. The patient underwent partial maxillectomy and right neck dissection with fibula free-flap reconstruction of the maxillary arch. Although there are multiple studies about direct injury to Inferior Alveolar Nerve (IAN) during dental procedures, however, data regarding compression phenomenon on the nerve is limited. The case report aims to review the topic of iatrogenic compression phenomenon of IAN following surgical placement of dental implant and to report a clinical case of compressed IAN with temporary loss of sensation following placement of dental implant in posterior mandible.
