A reasonable proportion of clinicians in the Northern hemisphere may be familiar with the use of probiotics and some have clearly been involved in probiotic research for some time. However, we hypothesized that medical practitioners in Nigeria are yet to grasp the concept of using probiotics either as health promoting foods or as biotherapeutic agents for the treatment of diarrhea or urogenital infections. A survey of smoking prevalence and attitudes was made among medical students randomly selected from classes at the Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan. Of 271 respondents, 14.4% were current smokers (22.0% male and 3.8% females) and 3.3% ex-smokers. A majority of students recognized the dangers associated with active as well as passive smoking although only 55% of current smokers planned to quit in the near future. Most smokers (96%) believed that they as well as other health professionals needed training on smoking cessation and 95% of all students believed that doctors should play a role model in smoking cessation by …

Objectives To determine the level of knowledge regarding iodine nutrition and its relationship with socio-economic status in the South African population. Design A cross-sectional population survey collecting questionnaire information on knowledge of iodine nutrition and sociodemographic variables in a multistage, stratified, cluster study sample, representative of the adult South African population. This work was carried out to study the effect of asthma education on asthma knowledge, behavior and morbidity in asthmatic patients. A randomized double blind controlled study was conducted with 54 adults with asthma followed-up at the outpatient clinic of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis at the Faculty of Medicine of Suleyman Demirel University. การวิจัยครั้งนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาถึงการเปลี่ยนแปลงความรู้และเจตคติของนักเรียนภายหลัง การให้ความรู้และประสบการณ์เกี่ยวกับพิษภัยของบุหรี่ เพื่อส่งเสริมให้มีความรู้และเจตคติในการป้องกันตนเอง จากบุหรี่ กลุ่มตัวอย่างเป็นนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 1 โรงเรียนท่าศาลาประสิทธิ์ศึกษา ปีการศึกษา 2541 ทั้งหญิงและชาย จำนวน 474 คน แบ่งเป็นกลุ่มควบคุมและกลุ่มทดลองจำนวน 269 และ 205 คนตามลำดับ กิจกรรมการให้ความรู้ประกอบด้วยการชมวิดีทัศน์ กิจกรรมเกมส์นักข่าว กิจกรรมบทบาทสมมุติเรื่องการปฏิเสธบุหรี่ และกิจกรรมการทดลองทางวิทยาศาสตร์ ประเมินผลโดยใช้แบบสอบถามความรู้และเจตคติ ผลการวิจัยพบว่ากลุ่มทดลองมีค่าความรู้และเจตคติสูงกว่ากลุ่มควบคุมอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ \nหลังการประเมินผล ครั้งที่ 1 และกลุ่มทดลองมีค่าความรู้สูงกว่ากลุ่มควบคุมอย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ หลังการติดตามผล 1 ปี ส่วนเจตคติไม่แตกต่างกัน

Dementia is a growing concern among the elder population. Special Care Units in long-term settings are becoming common placements for elders with dementia. The nursing staff within Special Care Units ideally have additional training in dementia. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the knowledge of dementia among nursing staff working in Special Care Units.

A Survey Of Foot Care Knowledge And Habits In Chatham County, Georgia, Barbara Lewis Mccarthy

The study examined the foot care knowledge and foot care habits of a random sample (n = 540) of residents of Chatham County, Georgia. Data were collected using a mail survey which had a response rate of 26.29% (142 responses). Data analysis indicated that foot pain and discomfort are a significant problem for more than half of the respondents (57.87%). The emphasis of fashion over fit of both shoe-manufacturers, and society in general, appears to contribute significantly to the problem. Lack of education in preventive measures for foot health is also a significant contributing factor. Replication of the study is …

งานวิจัยนี้เป็นการศึกษาถึงความรู้และทัศนคติเกี่ยวกับโรคปริทันต์ของผู้ป่วยที่มารับบริการในแผนกทันตกรรมของโรงพยาบาลของรัฐบาล และโรงพยาบาลเอกชน ในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร จํานวนกลุ่มละ 100 คน ผู้ป่วยทั้งสองกลุ่มมีความรู้ที่ถูกต้องในประเด็นที่ว่า สุขภาพเหงือกและฟันเป็นสิ่งสําคัญ ควรไปพบทันตแพทย์เป็นประจํา และการใช้แรงที่เหมาะสมในการแปรงฟัน แต่พบว่ามีความรู้เกี่ยวกับแผ่นคราบจุลินทรีย์ หรือสาเหตุของการเกิดโรคปริทันต์น้อยมาก อย่างไรก็ตาม ผู้ป่วยกลุ่มโรงพยาบาลเอกชนจะมีความรู้และทัศนคติที่ถูกต้องมากกว่าผู้ป่วยกลุ่มโรงพยาบาลรัฐบาล (P < 0.05) ซึ่งความแตกต่างของระดับความรู้และทัศนคติดังกล่าวอาจเป็นผลมากจาก อายุ เพศ อาชีพ และรายได้ของผู้ป่วย จากผลการวิจัยครั้งนี้แสดงให้เห็นว่า ยังคงมีความจําเป็นต้องให้ความรู้เกี่ยวกับโรคปริทันต์แก่ผู้ป่วยให้มากขึ้นในขณะบําบัดรักษาทางทันตกรรม

แบบสอบถามแบ่งออกได้เป็น 6 ส่วนคือ 1) ข้อมูลส่วนบุคคลและการอบรมเกี่ยวกับโรคเอดส์ 2) ความรู้เกี่ยวกับโรคเอดส์ 3) ทัศนคติโดยทั่วไปเกี่ยวกับโรคเอดส์ 4) ทัศนคติต่อความตั้งใจที่จะให้บริการผู้ป่วยโรคเอดส์หรือผู้ติดเชื้อโรคเอดส์ 5) การประเมินความเสี่ยงต่อการติดเชื้อโรคเอดส์ในระหว่าง การให้บริการทางทันตกรรม และ 6) พฤติกรรมการป้องกันโรคเอดส์ ทันตแพทย์จํานวน 130 คน ได้ตอบแบบสอบถาม ส่วนใหญ่ยังปฏิบัติงานทันตกรรมอยู่ และ 71% ของผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามเคยได้รับการอบรมเกี่ยวกับโรคเอดส์แล้ว แต่มีเพียง 15% เท่านั้นที่เคยให้บริการแก่ผู้ป่วยโรคเอดส์ นอกจากนั้นพบว่ากว่า 90% ของทันตแพทย์กลุ่มนี้มีความรู้เกี่ยวกับโรคเอดส์ในระดับที่ดี หากแต่ทัศนคติต่อโรคเอดส์โดยทั่วไปหรือต่อความตั้งใจที่จะให้บริการผู้ป่วยโรคเอดส์นั้น พบว่ามีค่าบวกเพียงเล็กน้อยเท่านั้น ทันตแพทย์ทุกคนในการศึกษานี้คิดว่าตนเองจะอยู่ในฐานะที่เสี่ยงต่อการติดโรคเอดส์ ถ้าเขาต้องให้บริการผู้ป่วยเหล่านี้ เมื่อพิจารณาถึงพฤติกรรมการป้องกันแล้วจะพบว่า ทันตแพทย์กลุ่มนี้ขณะที่ตอบแบบสอบถามยังมีพฤติกรรมการป้องกันที่ไม่เพียงพอ สิ่งที่น่าสนใจมากอีกประการหนึ่งก็คือ ทันตแพทย์ที่ผ่านการอบรมเรื่องโรคเอดส์แล้วนั้น มีความรู้เกี่ยวกับโรคเอดส์ดีขึ้น แต่ยังไม่มีการเปลี่ยนทัศนคติหรือพฤติกรรมการป้องกันโรคเอดส์อย่างจริงจัง

A comparison of teacher's attitudes and teacher's and student's knowledge of alcohol and alcoholism were studied in nine selected high schools in Utah.

It was found that some teachers knew important positive facts about alcohol and alcoholism, but when personal obligations were written into "attitude" questions, their responses changed.

Some health and driver education teachers were poorly informed on the subject of alcohol and alcoholism. Some important facts known by teachers were either being deleted from instruction on alcohol or not being communicated very well.
