Background: Compliance rate of hand hygiene practice by healthcare workers has been observed to be universally low despite its importance, simplicity and cost-effectiveness in preventing the spread of infectious diseases in the healthcare settings. This study aimed to improve healthcare workers’ knowledge, attitudes, and compliance with hand hygiene by using reminder cards displayed by patients.

There may be lack of knowledge in nicotine toxicity and second-hand smoke (SHS) effects, as well as the opinion of pets’ care among Thai veterinarians (vets). To examine knowledge, opinion of nicotine toxicity and SHS effects on dogs and cats’ health in Thai vets. A cross-sectional survey was applied. Data were collected using the self-reported questionnaire. Cronbach's alpha for the knowledge and opinion questionnaire was 0.90 and 0.94, respectively. After MUCIRB approval, systematic sampling was applied to 371 Thai vets. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Thai vets were 5.7 percents current smokers. การวิจัยครั้งนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาถึงการเปลี่ยนแปลงความรู้และเจตคติของนักเรียนภายหลัง การให้ความรู้และประสบการณ์เกี่ยวกับพิษภัยของบุหรี่ เพื่อส่งเสริมให้มีความรู้และเจตคติในการป้องกันตนเอง จากบุหรี่ กลุ่มตัวอย่างเป็นนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 1 โรงเรียนท่าศาลาประสิทธิ์ศึกษา ปีการศึกษา 2541 ทั้งหญิงและชาย จำนวน 474 คน แบ่งเป็นกลุ่มควบคุมและกลุ่มทดลองจำนวน 269 และ 205 คนตามลำดับ กิจกรรมการให้ความรู้ประกอบด้วยการชมวิดีทัศน์ กิจกรรมเกมส์นักข่าว กิจกรรมบทบาทสมมุติเรื่องการปฏิเสธบุหรี่ และกิจกรรมการทดลองทางวิทยาศาสตร์ ประเมินผลโดยใช้แบบสอบถามความรู้และเจตคติ ผลการวิจัยพบว่ากลุ่มทดลองมีค่าความรู้และเจตคติสูงกว่ากลุ่มควบคุมอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ \nหลังการประเมินผล ครั้งที่ 1 และกลุ่มทดลองมีค่าความรู้สูงกว่ากลุ่มควบคุมอย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ หลังการติดตามผล 1 ปี ส่วนเจตคติไม่แตกต่างกัน

The objective of this study is to determine knowledge, attitude and infection control practice of dentists on AIDS and the care for AIDS/HIV patients. Self-administered questionnaires were mailed to the dentists whom were selected by using simple random simpling technique from the list of dentists in Bangkok. The knowledge and attitude about periodontal disease of 100 regularly attending patients each in general dental practices of government and private hospitals in Bangkok were examined. In both groups, the patients had correct information concerning the importance in having healthy teeth and gum, frequently visit dentist and proper force used in brushing, but had incorrect information about plaque and etiology of periodontal disease. Private hospital group was more knowledgeable than government hospital group (p < 0.05). The difference in patient knowledge and attitude may be influenced by age, sex, occupation and incomes. The results indicate that additional education in periodontal disease is still needed during dental practice.(งานวิจัยนี้เป็นการศึกษาถึงความรู้และทัศนคติเกี่ยวกับโรคปริทันต์ของผู้ป่วยที่มารับบริการในแผนกทันตกรรมของโรงพยาบาลของรัฐบาล และโรงพยาบาลเอกชน ในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร จํานวนกลุ่มละ 100 คน ผู้ป่วยทั้งสองกลุ่มมีความรู้ที่ถูกต้องในประเด็นที่ว่า สุขภาพเหงือกและฟันเป็นสิ่งสําคัญ ควรไปพบทันตแพทย์เป็นประจํา และการใช้แรงที่เหมาะสมในการแปรงฟัน แต่พบว่ามีความรู้เกี่ยวกับแผ่นคราบจุลินทรีย์ หรือสาเหตุของการเกิดโรคปริทันต์น้อยมาก อย่างไรก็ตาม ผู้ป่วยกลุ่มโรงพยาบาลเอกชนจะมีความรู้และทัศนคติที่ถูกต้องมากกว่าผู้ป่วยกลุ่มโรงพยาบาลรัฐบาล (P < 0.05) ซึ่งความแตกต่างของระดับความรู้และทัศนคติดังกล่าวอาจเป็นผลมากจาก อายุ เพศ อาชีพ และรายได้ของผู้ป่วย จากผลการวิจัยครั้งนี้แสดงให้เห็นว่า ยังคงมีความจําเป็นต้องให้ความรู้เกี่ยวกับโรคปริทันต์แก่ผู้ป่วยให้มากขึ้นในขณะบําบัดรักษาทางทันตกรรม)
