The seminar from which these papers flow was the product of many minds, multiple energies and much co-operation during the many months prior to its final implementation. The idea of a women's seminar oriented to the issues and concerns of contemporary Egyptian society was initially put forth in the fal I of 1974 to coincide with efforts that were developing on a national level in Egypt to commemorate 1975 as International Women's Year. A Submission For The Award Of An Associate Diploma In Health Education, Claremont Teachers College

Research outputs pre 2011

Health education is a process which effects changes in the health practices of people and in the knowledge and attitudes related to such changes. Education is an internal process for the individual concerned. He educates himself, even though his education is assisted by such means as contacts with health workers, appeals directed to him, information made available, clarification of issues, alternatives, and consequences as a basis for a rational choice. Education thus places responsibility on the individual and is essentially different from a compliance approach. It involves motivation, communication and decision-making. Planned education must take into account the relevant knowledge …

Anticoagulant Half-Life Of Heparin In Human Subjects With Normal And Impaired Renal Function., Paul James Perry

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Numerous investigators have noted that individuals vary widely in their response to the anticoagulant, heparin. Animal model3 have suggested that patients with depressed renal function would be expected to clear heparin from the blood at a slower rate than patients with normal renal function.

Utilizing the Activated Coagulation Time clotting test, a method was developed to determine the anticoagulant half-life of heparin. The study calculated the half-life of heparin in a group of individuals with normal renal function and a population of patients in chronic renal failure. Intravenous heparin doses of 0,3 units/ml and 0.6 units/ml of blood were administered …

Changing Concepts Of Deviance, Douglas D. Bond Jan 1969

Changing Concepts Of Deviance, Douglas D. Bond

MCV/Q, Medical College of Virginia Quarterly

As I look at the list of distinguished Stoneburner Lecturers, I see I am honored by being the first psychiatrist. This is a tribute to the Department of Psychiatry. In thinking about this paper, I at first considered giving a kind of history of psychiatry. What seemed to me more interesting, however, was an examination of our whole perspective on deviance, in general, and what we call “illness”—an example of a certain kind of deviance, or, perhaps more accurately, a certain way of looking at deviance.

A Study Of Recent Advances In Drug Therapy For Use In Health Instruction, Loretta M. Stallings

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

In recent years there has been a growing emphasis on the development of health education in the public schools. This emphasis has been due largely to the realization of the importance and need for training in healthful living. As the educational system in the United States has assumed more and more responsibility for the total development of the child, physically, mentally, specially, and emotionally, educators and parents have felt the need for a more functional health program in the school.

Nutritional Status Of Some Utah Population Groups, Almeda Perry Brown Apr 1944

Nutritional Status Of Some Utah Population Groups, Almeda Perry Brown

Faculty Honor Lectures

The science of nutrition is the science of life. Though man is still ignorant of the true nature of that elusive force we call life, he has learned by means of the discovered laws of nutrition how to preserve and prolong life as well as how to add to the satisfactions of living.

The emergence of the sicence of nutrition from the maze of superstition which for centuries clouded man's thinking is a fascinating story. A story, however, that arouses a feeling of regret that for so long a time man was willing to attribute to supernatural forces all phenomena …

Organic Inferiority And Its Psychic Compensation In Relation To Physical Education, Earl F. Zinn

While character has long been a matter of man's prime concern, it is only in recent years that psychology has been in a position to effectively attack the problem. For the first time in its history is this science equipped with both a point of view and a method which give every promise of ultimately solving this most vital and perplexing of human problems. One of the distinctive features of this viewpoint pertains to the somatic relationship. From this, organic integrity and physical health are seen in a new light.
