Patients bridging to transplantation with left ventricular assist device ( LVAD) often require prolonged support of ventricular assistance. As improving perioperative survial with LVAD, additional emphasis must be placed on patients' cardiopulmonary rehabilitation to prevent the occurrence of the deterious effect of bedrest ( such as ”immobilization syndrome”) and improve their exercise capability and life of quality.In this study,we proposed one case undergoing implantation of LVAD (Heart Mate) because of acute myocarditis complicated with end-stage heart failure. A forty-seven-year-old male patient fell down from a tricycle. He suffered from severe back pain and bilateral lower leg soreness. Undiagnosed ankylosing Spondylitis with T10,T11 vertebral transverse fracture was impressed after examination. The patient received conservative rehabilitation program including complete bed rest, interferential current (IFC) therapy, local heat and strengthening exercise of trunk and limbs muscles. Knight-Taylor spinal orthosis was prescribed later for spinal stability. After 5 weeks therapy, he was discharged and followed regularly in the outpatient department. The intermittent cervical traction is a popular physical therapeutic device for relieving neck pain or cervical radiculopathy. In this paper, the clinical evaluation of a newly developed traction modality with electromyography biofeedback was presented. Twenty four patients with neck pain were divided into high tension and low tension group according to the severity of muscle spasm. The subjects were farther randomly separated into two subgroups. The control and experimental subgroup were treated with conventional and new biofeedback traction modalities respectively. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between grip strength and bone mineral density (BMD ) in normal elderly males who were subject to senile osteoporosis. We examined grip strength and BMD in 49 healthy volunteer males, aged 65-80 years-old ( mean age : 71.1 + 3.9 y/o). Radial BMD was measured in the distal and middle radius by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry ( DEXA ). Isometric grip strength was assessed with a hand-held dynamometer for both forearms. The blunt component in a penetrating neck injury is easy to be overlooked and it may cause a subsequent cerebral infarction. We reported a man aged 23 years who suffered from weakness of left limbs after a penetrating neck trauma. Although initial brain CT revealed no focal lesions, the carotid duplex showed an aneurysm with thrombus at right internal carotid artery (ICA). The angiogram showed an aneurysm adjacent to the bifurcation of internal and external carotid arteries (ECA) with well opacification of right internal and external carotid arteries. Using Barthel index (Bl) as a Parameter, a total of 148 subjects were collected for the study of the effective-ness of stroke rehabilitation. The factors related to BI scores improvement after rehabilitation program include premorbid social activity, hospital patient admitted, stroke recurrence, BI score at admission, Brunnstrom stage of proximal upper extremity and main care giver during hospitalization. The determinants of discharge BI scores include premorbid outdoor and social activities, natility, stroke recurrence, arm function, Brunnstrom stage of lower extremity, urinary incontinence and presence of joint contracture. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of exercise and acupuncture for weight reduction in obese adult. Twenty-six subjects with mean age of adult and were randomly assigned to two treatment groups. Each group contains thirteen subjects. The acu-points were ”hunger-point” ”mouth” ”endocrine” and ”stomach” in the ear. Ear-needles were removed weekly and placed on the other ear alternatively weekly for twelve weeks. Emotional responses and coping strategies of injured athletes was the focus of the study. Several emotions have been identified in injured athletes such as frustration, depression, anger, and shock. Questions remain whether males and females feel similar emotions and engage similar coping strategies and whether severity of injury is a significant factor in responses and coping.

This article offers strategies for maximizing cardiopulmonary clinical education experiences of physical therapy students in order to better prepare them to function in the changing clinical environment. In recent 10 years 1419 stroke patients who had been hospitalized to Cathy General Hospital, and received CT scanning examinations were retrospectively selected for this study. These patients were divided into two groups. The first group was enrolled from July 1982 to June 1987 (total 536 patients) and the second was from July 1987 to June 1992 (total 883 patients). In order to obtain the information of disease classification of rehabilitation patients, we conducted disease recording at eight different hospitals in north and east parts of Taiwan for one year. Musculoskeletal disorder was the most common disease which accounts for more than half of total patients (51%) and it was also the most common disease in outpatients, whereas cerebral vascular disease was the most common disease in inpatients.Traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, cardiac disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease were also common in inpatients. 32 subjects were enrolled in this study, all were diagnosed by clinical symptoms and signs and showed electrophysiological evidence of carpal tunnel syndrome. Low power laser treatment were applied to these subjects for 12 weeks(36 sessions).The results revealed the number of subjects with (1)numbness sensation decreased from 30(94%) to 16(50%)(2)pain sensation decreased from 7(22%) to 2 (7%) (3)night discomfort from 12(40%) decreased to 5(15%) (4) Tinel's sign decreased from 16(50%) to 5 (15%) (5) positive Phalen's test decreased from 10( 31%) to 9(28%); all except Phalen's test revealed statistical significance. While empowerment is a dominant concern in mental health care, services often reflect the inadequate use of an empowerment-based frame of reference. This study seeks to enlarge the understanding of empowerment so that more effective services can be established.

Using naturalistic inquiry methodology, this study explores the lived experience of empowerment through direct dialogue with both mental health consumer advocates and mental health occupational therapists. Data were collected and evaluated using a hermeneutic dialectic process. A series of three interviews were done with six respondents.
