Background: Skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) are the second most common diagnosis leading to pediatric antibiotic prescriptions in the outpatient setting after respiratory diagnoses. However, most antibiotic stewardship programs have mainly focused on the latter. Children seen in the ambulatory setting for SSTIs often receive >7 days of antibiotics, although current society guidelines recommend 5-7 days for most diagnoses.


Objective: To determine the baseline percentage of patients receiving antibiotic prescriptions for >7 days for SSTIs in urgent care clinics (UCC)s of a pediatric health system and to evaluate factors that influence providers towards longer durations.

•4 Factor Prothrombin Complex Concentrate (4F-PCC) reverses anticoagulation of warfarin with weight-based dosing criteria supplied by manufacturer. INR must be processed before 4F-PCC is prepared. Background: The debate surrounding the use of crystalloids versus colloids remains a source of controversy due to limited and conflicting evidence. Emerging data favors the use of crystalloids over colloids in addition to cost benefits. Baptist Hospital of Miami (BHM) has evidence-based guidance for albumin 5%, but it is unclear the degree of appropriate usage. Background: Opioids are the primary post-operative (post-op) analgesic in neonates. Side effects include hypotension, apnea and ileus. Previous studies show IV acetaminophen decreases opiate need in specific populations including cleft palate repair, cardiac surgery. The effect of IV acetaminophen as part of a post-op pain algorithm is not known in common neonatal surgical procedures.


Objective: To determine if (a) a post-op pain algorithm including IV acetaminophen and (b) IV acetaminophen exposure reduces cumulative opioid requirements in neonates undergoing common surgeries in the NICU.

Chronic hepatic damage can occur due to multiple causes including, alcohol, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis and chronic viral hepatitis. Liver fibrosis is a critical problem worldwide due to the extremely high incidence of alcohol associated liver damage and chronic viral hepatitis. Bupropion is an antidepressant and smoking cessation aid that is extensively metabolized by cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2B6. It is a highly lipophilic chiral drug that undergoes stereoselective metabolism with preference for the (S)-enantiomer. Despite chemical reasons for why bupropion can be metabolized by other CYP isozymes, clinically, bupropion is preferentially metabolized by CYP2B6, and at certain concentrations, CYP2E1, CYP2C19, and CYP3A4. A computational analysis with simulated molecular docking was performed using two different scoring algorithms to analyze the specific amino acid interactions between bupropion and various CYP isozymes. Lung cancer is responsible for the most cancer deaths between males and females, with a 6% five-year survival rate. Cancer metastasis is one of the leading causes of lung cancer lethality. Our lab has developed a method to culture cells on cell-derived matrix (CDM) and study cell-ECM interactions. This study utilized multiple cell migration methods to investigate the migration of NSCLC cells and IMR90 lung fibroblasts, both together and independently, on 2D plastic and 3D CDM. This descriptive observational study was conducted to increase understanding of medication administration practices during actual clinical use between 2 commonly used, different types of intravenous (IV) smart pumps. Compliance with manufacturer-recommended setup requirements for both primary and secondary infusions and secondary medication administration delay was compared between a head-height differential system and a cassette system. Effective control of asthma symptoms requires daily self-management activities, including use of short-acting or “rescue” inhaled medications. Overuse of short-acting inhaled medications, such as albuterol, can have negative side-effects, including respiratory infections and worse asthma symptom control. Existing research suggests that emotion plays an important role in airway inflammation and asthma symptom control.
