Exploring Occupational Exposures And Health Risks Among Long-Haul Truck Drivers: Tobacco Smoke, Cara Harris

Long-haul truck drivers (LHTDs) are exposed to a range of occupational hazards and stressors that threaten their health and well-being. These include, but are not limited to, irregular sleep patterns, fatigue, and chronic exposure to diesel engine exhaust (DEE) and tobacco smoke in the confined spaces of truck cabins. Smoking tobacco cigarettes is often used as a coping mechanism for occupational stressors and nicotine dependence, contributing to a high smoking rate among LHTDs (51%) compared to the general population (19%). Background: Maternal and under-five mortality remain major public health concerns in many low- and middle-income countries, including Tanzania. Despite their widespread use in strengthening economic resilience, income-generating associations (IGAs) have not fully utilized their potential as platforms for addressing reproductive and child health (RCH) challenges.

Objectives: P2RX7 has been implicated in bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease. However, the specificity and comparability of these as sociations remain unclear. This study aimed to systematically evaluate multiple neuropsychiatric disorders to identify those most robustly associated with P2RX7.

Methods: We analyzed 1861 imputed SNPs spanning the P2RX7 gene in 1,087,925 individuals from 72 inde pendent cohorts across 18 neuropsychiatric disorders. SNP-disease associations were assessed within each cohort, followed by meta-analysis and false discovery rate (FDR) correction to identify significant disease-risk variants. Maternal health during pregnancy and the postnatal period encompasses mental health, which is a key aspect in enhancing a positive outcome. Purpose

This project evaluated the effectiveness of triage protocols based on the Donabedian model in increasing efficiency and flow in primary care clinics. Patients experienced extended wait times in primary care clinics, resulting in aggravated outcomes and dissatisfaction with care delivery. Healthcare providers also experienced stress and burnout due to workload and operational inadequacies. These inefficiencies mandated a quality improvement approach that addressed patient satisfaction, workflow optimization, and resource management.

Birth satisfaction has been consistently associated with improved maternal outcomes such as reduced postpartum depression (PPD), stronger maternal-infant attachment, and longer breastfeeding duration. However, the extent to which birth satisfaction independently predicts these outcomes remains unclear. This study examined whether birth satisfaction, as measured by the Birth Satisfaction Scale–Revised (BSS-R), predicts postpartum depression, maternal-infant attachment, and breastfeeding duration in a longitudinal cohort.

Despite strong evidence supporting exercise as a first-line intervention to prevent disease progression, most patients in primary care settings do not receive structured physical activity counseling.
