Myocardial Preconditioning By Intracoronary Adenosine Before Elective Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (Short Term Outcome), Yasser Bahnacy

Al-Azhar International Medical Journal

Background and Purpose: Pre- and post-conditioning by transient episodes of ischemia render the myocardium more resistant to subsequent ischemia, a phenomenon known as ischemic pre-conditioning. This effect is thought to be partly mediated by endogenous adenosine. The aim of the study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of intracoronary adenosine on myocardial perfusion in patients schedule for elective percutaneous coronary intervention. Methods: A prospective observational comparative study of 120 patients with coronary artery disease scheduled for elective percutaneous coronary intervention. Patients were randomly to receive intracoronary adenosine (n = 60 ) or placebo (n= 60), both groups were compared …

Age Related Changes In The Expression Of Tenascin-C In Liver Of Albino Rat, Mohammed Mohammed, Mohammed Mokhtar El Assaly, Hamdino Attia

Al-Azhar International Medical Journal

Abstract Background: Aging is a gradual deterioration in the function of tissues and organ systems with loss of the ability to maintain homeostasis, due to structural alteration or dysfunction. Aging impact directly on all the different types of liver cells: hepatocytes, liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs), Küpffer cells (KCs) and hepatic stellate cells (HSCs). Activation of HSCs leads to deposition of collagen in the space of Disse, decrease of fenestrations of LSECs and formation of basement membrane. These changes called pseudocapillarization. Tenascin-C (TN-C) is an extracellular matrix glycoprotein markedly up-regulated during liver fibrosis. Tenascin-C is highly expressed during embryonic development, …
