Irak-4 Rs4251481 Gene Variant: As A Risk Factor On Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Gonca Candan, Resul Kahraman, Hayri̇ye Arzu Ergen

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Abnormal immune response occurs in individuals who have alleles associated with innate and adaptive immune mechanisms that predispose to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase 4 (IRAK-4) involved in the pathway produces cytokines that initiate and maintain inflammation through Toll-like receptors and interleukin-1 receptors on the membranes of innate immune cells are stimulated with antigens. It was aimed to investigate whether IRAK-4 rs3794262 and rs4251481 polymorphisms predispose to IBD and the possible effects of these polymorphisms by examining these gene polymorphisms with the clinic and prognostic parameters of IBD.Material and methods: Real-time PCR technique was used to detect …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Minimally invasive procedures have been increasingly used for the treatment of herniated discs. Nonsurgical interventions minimize the secondary damage to other tissues and shorten the length of hospital stay by avoiding general anesthesia. Possible complications are thermal injuries, root injury, discitis, endplate damage, dural injury, meningitis, infection, increase in pain, and muscle spasm. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of percutaneous decompression therapy by using intradiscal navigable electrodes on pain and functional movement index in patients with herniated nucleus pulposus (HNP).Materials and methods: A total of 209 patients with protrusive lumbar disc herniation underwent percutaneous ablation decompression treatment using …

The number of patients with heart transplantation has dramatically increased in the last decade. Considerable studies have suggested that the interval from the peak to the end of the electrocardiographic T wave (Tp-e) may correspond to the transmural dispersion of repolarization and increased Tp-e interval and Tp-e/QT ratio are associated with malignant ventricular arrhythmias. We analyzed the dispersion of myocardial repolarization using electrocardiographic Tp-e interval and Tp-e/QTc ratio in patients with heart transplantation. Materials and methods: This observational study included 38 patients (12 female and 26 male) with heart transplantation and 38 well-matched controls. Childhood Atopic Dermatitis: Current Developments, Treatment Approaches, And Future Expectations, Pinar Gür Çeti̇nkaya, Ümi̇t Murat Şahi̇ner

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common chronic inflammatory skin disorder of childhood. Underlying factors that contribute to AD are impaired epithelial barrier, alterations in the lipid composition of the skin, immunological imbalance including increased Th2/Th1 ratio, proinflammatory cytokines, decreased T regulatory cells, genetic mutations, and epigenetic alterations. Atopic dermatitis is a multifactorial disease with a particularly complicated pathophysiology. Discoveries to date may be considered the tip of the iceberg, and the increasing number of studies in this field indicate that there are many points to be elucidated in AD pathophysiology. In this review, we aimed to illustrate the current …

Five patients were excluded due to early discharge and 30 patients completed BWSTT sessions lasting 30 min, 5 …
