Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Ultrasonographic measurements of inferior vena cava (IVC) diameters and right ventricle (RV) volumes are important tools for the evaluation of intravascular volume. The current study investigates the association of IVC diameters and RV volumes before colonoscopy in prediction of postanesthesia hypotension.Materials and methods: Seventy patients scheduled for colonoscopy were included in the study. Preoperatively, expirium (dIVC max) and inspirium (dIVC min) IVC diameters were measured using M-mode ultrasonography and the collapsibility index (IVC-CI) was calculated. Ventricular volumes and areas were also measured using transthoracic echocardiography. Postanesthesia hypotension was defined as mean arterial blood pressure of 30% in the mean …

Shear Wave Versus Strain Elastography In The Differentiation Of Benign And Malignant Breast Lesions, Aykut Gürüf, Mesut Öztürk, İlkay Koray Bayrak, Ahmet Veysel Polat Jan 2019

Shear Wave Versus Strain Elastography In The Differentiation Of Benign And Malignant Breast Lesions, Aykut Gürüf, Mesut Öztürk, İlkay Koray Bayrak, Ahmet Veysel Polat

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: To evaluate and compare the diagnostic performances of shear wave elastography (SWE) and strain elastography (SE) in the differentiation of benign and malignant breast lesions.Materials and methods: The current study included 87 breast lesions in 84 patients. The Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BIRADS) categories were determined with ultrasound features. The maximum shear wave velocity (SWV), mean SWV, maximum SWV to fat SWV ratio, and mean SWV to fat SWV ratio were measured using SWE. The strain ratio (SR) was calculated as the ratio of lesion strain to the adjacent fat strain using SE. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) …

Ultrasound-Guided Pulsed Radiofrequency Neuromodulation Of The Suprascapular Nerve In Partial Rotator Cuff Tears, Ender Si̇r, Sami̇ Eksert Jan 2019

Ultrasound-Guided Pulsed Radiofrequency Neuromodulation Of The Suprascapular Nerve In Partial Rotator Cuff Tears, Ender Si̇r, Sami̇ Eksert

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/Aim: Pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) of the suprascapular nerve has been shown to be effective in the treatment of chronic shoulder pain. Ultrasound (US) guidance has gained popularity in regional blocks recently. This study aims to investigate the efficacy of suprascapular nerve pulsed radiofrequency under the guidance of ultrasonography. Materials and methods: This retrospective study included patients treated with PRF of the suprascapular nerve with a diagnosis of partial rotator cuff tears. The patients were assessed with a numeric rating scale (NRS), the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI), and a Likert patient satisfaction score before the treatment and 3 weeks …

The Effects Of Early Neurodevelopmental Bobath Approach And Mobilization On Quadriceps Muscle Thickness In Stroke Patients, Arzu Güçlü Gündüz, Gökhan Yazici, Çağla Özkul, Hami̇t Küçük, Hale Zeynep Batur Çağlayan, Bi̇jen Nazliel Jan 2019

The Effects Of Early Neurodevelopmental Bobath Approach And Mobilization On Quadriceps Muscle Thickness In Stroke Patients, Arzu Güçlü Gündüz, Gökhan Yazici, Çağla Özkul, Hami̇t Küçük, Hale Zeynep Batur Çağlayan, Bi̇jen Nazliel

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Following stroke, damage to the central nervous system and adaptive changes in muscle tissue are factors responsible for the loss of muscle strength. Even though it is suggested that early physiotherapy and mobilization prevent structural adaptive changes in muscle tissue, studies regarding this issue are insufficient. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of early physiotherapy and mobilization on quadriceps muscle thickness (QMT) in stroke patients.Materials and methods: Twelve stroke patients who were admitted to the neurology intensive care unit and 13 healthy controls were included in the study. QMT was examined at admission and discharge …
