Acquisition Of Health Knowledge In Selected Hong Kong Secondary Schools, Anne D. Lindt

The exploratory survey method was used to determine the extent to whole scientific knowledge, related to principles and practices of healthful living, was enhanced during the secondary school education of students attending four Seventh-day Adventist secondary schools in Hong Kong. The tool, in the form of a health knowledge test designed to fit the cultural patterns of the population, was applied to 358 Form I (grade 7) and Form V (grade 11) students of the specified schools. An Analysis Of Critical Incidents To Determine Effective And Ineffective Clinical Instructions, Nyrabella Fiedler Clague

It was the purpose of this survey to determine what constitutes effective and ineffective clinical instruction from the student's viewpoint, and to make the findings available. The descriptive survey method using the critical incident technique was used as the method of research. A critical incident report form was constructed as a tool for gathering the data. There were 117 students of nursing who submitted 166 incidents; 52 per cent were of effective instruction and 48 per cent of ineffective instruction.

A review of pertinent literature revealed that the reactions of students to teachers were important criteria to use as one …

The purpose of this study was to ascertain whether an introduction course in psychiatric nursing for beginning students would increase their awareness of the covert nursing needs of the hospitalized patient.

Literature was reviewed to find out what had been written concerning covert needs, how one could discern them and to determine the need of the patient as an individual.

Using the problem solving method, a tool was prepared to test the ability to identify covert nursing problems. A situational test was developed from experiences of seven hospitalized patients. A pilot study was conducted to perfect the tool.

This is nearly one-tenth of our population, and the number is estimated to be increasing by one thousand daily. There are already twenty-five million people age 60 or over, six million age 75 and over, and more than ten thousand over the age of 100. With increased study and research on various factors in the aging process and how they affect the health of elderly people, these figures may go even higher.

It was the purpose of this study to investigate reasons for the choice of a first position by graduates from diploma programs in nursing. This included factors motivating the choice, the time of choice, and reasons for liking and disliking clinical areas. Questionnaires were mailed to 756 graduates of the class of 1961 from twenty-three representative schools. Approximately 46 percent were returned completed.

Major findings were as follows:

1. Reasons for choice of a first position rating a high percentage of total possible score on the rating scale were: to increase technical skill, 84.6 per cent; to continue learning, 81.6 …

Hospital nursing procedures are rapidly increasing in number and in complexity, keeping pace with the continuous advances being made in medical science. This, coupled with the fact that many nurses are resuming their careers after a period of professional inactivity, make it imperative that hospitals provide facilities for assisting nursing personnel in becoming acquainted with unfamiliar procedures. The purpose of this survey was twofold (1) to find out what knowledge the pediatric nurse has regarding selected medications which she is administering, and (2) to make recommendations relative to drug knowledge for in-service education programs in hospitals.

The data regarding abdication knowledge as collected by using a checklist form developed for this study and administered to seventeen graduate nurses in three selected hospitals each supervising a pediatric unit.

A checklist included categories, the route, the action time of a drug, and the side effects that could he commonly expected.

The Medical College of Virginia (MCV) marked the 125th anniversary of its founding with a year-long celebration in 1963, culminating in the publication of The First 125 Years. Issued as hard- and soft-back publications in the college's bulletin series, the 96-page photo history received many favorable reviews. The book is largely the work of Thelma Vaine Hoke, although she received no formal attribution on the cover or title page of the work.
