A Comparison Of Traditional Grass-Twist Backstops To One Of Corrugated Cardboard Design Use On Indoor Ranges, Charles T. Crume Jr.

This study presents the results of a comparison of traditional grass-twist backstops frequently used on indoor ranges with one of corrugated cardboard design. The findings indicate that the corrugated cardboard design is substantially superior.

The four factors selected for testing were:

1. Arrow pass-through levels and subsequent arrow repair costs
2. Arrow penetration levels, tested over several distances and using several bow weights
3. Arrow-stopping potential with beginning and inexperienced archers
4. Storage

Testing showed the first three factors supporting the corrugated cardboard design. The last factor, storage, was found to be about equally supportive of both designs.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the Cooper 12 Minute Run test and Bruce Multistage Treadmill test measure the same type of cardiovascular-endurance performance when testing adult women. A second purpose was to determine whether divergent levels of habitual activity by women are reflected in the scores on each test. Four groups of habitual activity were defined and labeled as follows: non-exercisers, minimal exercisers, adequate exercisers, and more than adequate exercisers. An Evaluation Of A Data-Based Sex Education Training Program For Mentally Retarded Adults, Patricia Ann Riley

The study determined that twenty-three mildly to moderately retarded adults living within the community increased their sexual knowledge after attending a twelve month, data-based sex education training program. The Lane Community College-Adult Basic Education (LCC-ABE) Pre/Post Test was administered to each subject when he/she began and finished the training program. The Intermittent Probe Tests were administered to each subject after instruction in each of thirteen topic areas in the curriculum. The main conclusions were that: (a) the subjects significantly increased their sexual knowledge after training; (b) class, sex, ability level, age, type of residence, and length of time in that …

The purpose of this research was to determine the effectiveness of the independent study method of instruction in promoting health knowledge and health attitude change. The experimental method was compared to the traditional classroom model of instruction.

A random sample of ten subjects was taken for the experimental group and matched control subjects were then selected. Control subjects were chosen based on the demographic variables of age, race, sex, academic classification and grade point average.

A pretest-posttest design using two standardized instruments was employed to measure the health knowledge gain and health attitude change. Data was statistically analyzed by use …

This study was designed to test the effects of three kinds of verbal feedback on the form and accuracy of a tennis forehand volley. Four groups (corrective, positive, positive-corrective, and control), each composed of ten eighth-grade female students, were given a pre-test, an appropriate treatment, and a post-test. During the pre- and post-tests, subjects were tested simultaneously for form and accuracy. Accuracy was measured by placement of the volleys into court sections marked with different point values. A Comparison Of Exercise Responses During Acute Exposure To Hypobaria In Exercise Trained Males With Coronary Heart Disease And Healthy, Sedentary Males, David Lowell Parker

This investigation was conducted to evaluate effects of acute altitude exposure on selected pulmonary, cardiovascular, metabolic, and psychological variables measured at rest, during, and after submaximal exercise. Comparisons were made between a group of men with coronary heart disease who were participants in an exercise reha­bilitation program (trained CHD's) and a group of healthy, asymptomatic, and sedentary individuals (HI's).

Nine male trained CHD's and 10 male HI's partici­pated in the study, which was conducted during an 8-week period. Initially, all subjects performed a maximal stress test on a bicycle ergometer at 1576m. Maximal values from this test were utilized in …

The quality of nutrition education programs is seriously being considered today. Numerous concerns have led to the investigation of underlying problems associated with ineffective nutrition education programs. The need for a nutrition component to be integrated in all educational systems became apparent immediately following the 1969 National Nutrition Survey. West Virginia was one of ten states to be surveyed and results clearly indicated that the nutritional status of the individuals under consideration was less than adequate. Vitamins A and C and iron were low in many diets among various age groups (Schaefer, 1970). Thus it was recognized that nutrition education …
