In addition to the rabies virus (RABV), 16 more lyssavirus species have been identified worldwide, causing a disease similar to RABV. Non-rabies-related human deaths have been described, but the number of cases is unknown, and the potential of such lyssaviruses causing human disease is unpredictable. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death for men in the U.S. and Black men are twice as likely to die from the disease. However, prostate cancer, if diagnosed at an earlier stage, is curable. The purpose of this review is to identify prostate cancer screening clinical trials that evaluate screening decision-making processes of Black men.

We assessed the feasibility to estimate illness burden in adults with SCD, investigated factors associated with health-related quality of life (HRQoL), and estimated societal burden. We recruited 32 participants and collected data on fatigue, HRQoL, and work productivity and activity impairment via patient survey. Health care utilization was abstracted for the 12 months before enrollment using medical chart review. Mean age was 36.7 years; 84.4% of participants had hemoglobin SS or Sβthal0 disease, and 81.3% reported chronic pain (experiencing pain on ≥3 days per week in the past 6 months). BACKGROUND: Congenital sideroblastic anemia (CSA) is a rare and heterogeneous group of genetic disorders. Conventional treatment include pyridoxine (vitamin B6) and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT), and can alleviate anemia in the majority of cases. Nevertheless, some CSA cases remain unresponsive to pyridoxine or are unable to undergo allo-HSCT. Novel management approaches is necessary to be developed. Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) increases the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. The early cholinergic decline in Alzheimer’s disease and cholinergic damage observed after TBI suggest a distinct role of this neural system in vulnerability to Alzheimer’s disease following TBI. This thesis evaluated the role of repetitive mTBI and cholinergic dysfunction in the development of cognitive deficits, specifically attentional deficits, and Alzheimer’s-related pathology in mice expressing humanized amyloid-beta and tau and a vesicular acetylcholine transporter knockdown to induce a mild cholinergic deficit. A 63-year-old male developed a mycotic pseudoaneurysm (MPA) two months after a renal transplant at the anastomotic site. He presented with uncontrolled hypertension and elevated creatinine. The pseudoaneurysm occurred at the anastomosis between the two donor renal arteries and the left external iliac artery. We describe a unique surgical reconstruction where the MPA was resected and the vasculature was reconstructed using deceased donor vessels. A deceased donor common iliac artery including superior gluteal and inferior gluteal branches were used as a jump graft from the contralateral common iliac artery to the two transplanted renal arteries. Painless jaundice is a common presentation of abdominal malignancy seen in elderly patients. While malignancy may be a common cause of obstructive jaundice in that population group, anchor bias should always be avoided. We present a case of an elderly woman who presented with painless jaundice and weight loss. She had a very remote history of cholecystitis. She was found to have Sump syndrome due to a stricture at the Choledochoduodenostomy (CDD) site. She underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) with stent placement which shortly led to resolution of her jaundice. Biopsy from the stricture site came back negative for malignancy.

PURPOSE: To compare rates of retinal nerve fiber layer change over time in healthy, eyes with nonprogressing glaucoma and eyes with progressing glaucoma using single wide-field (SWF) and optic nerve head (ONH) cube scan optical coherence tomography (OCT) images.

Problem: In a Midwest public school system, students received robust academic education. Health education programs, specifically asthma management, were not offered. Over 400 elementary students with asthma lacked the knowledge and skills to effectively recognize and manage their asthma symptoms resulting in increased school clinic visits and absences, highlighting the urgent need for targeted intervention.

In the SELECT cardiovascular outcomes trial, semaglutide showed a 20% reduction in major adverse cardiovascular events in 17,604 adults with preexisting cardiovascular disease, overweight or obesity, without diabetes. Here in this prespecified analysis, we examined effects of semaglutide on weight and anthropometric outcomes, safety and tolerability by baseline body mass index (BMI). In patients treated with semaglutide, weight loss continued over 65 weeks and was sustained for up to 4 years. At 208 weeks, semaglutide was associated with mean reduction in weight (-10.2%), waist circumference (-7.7 cm) and waist-to-height ratio (-6.9%) versus placebo (-1.5%, -1.3 cm and -1.0%, respectively; P < 0.0001 for all comparisons versus placebo). BACKGROUND: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a major microvascular complication of diabetes and has become the leading cause of end-stage renal disease worldwide. A considerable number of DN patients have experienced irreversible end-stage renal disease progression due to the inability to diagnose the disease early. INTRODUCTION: Many patients with severe asthma continue to experience symptoms and exacerbations despite treatment with standard-of-care therapy. In the phase 3 NAVIGATOR study, tezepelumab significantly reduced exacerbations over 52 weeks compared with placebo in patients with severe, uncontrolled asthma. This analysis assessed the efficacy of tezepelumab in reducing asthma exacerbations in various clinically relevant subgroups of patients in NAVIGATOR.

BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), agents that stimulate T-cell function, have become the standard first-line treatment for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, they may also cause immune-related adverse events (irAEs), which are rare and have not been extensively reported. Background: Scabies has been added to World Health Organization (WHO) list of neglected tropical disease in 2017. Various methods have been developed to control scabies in highly prevalent communities. In this study we conducted a diagnostic study to evaluate the performance of scabies detection by trained nonmedical personnel (NMP) using Deteksi Skabies (Deskab) instrument which has been validated for NMP.
