The purpose of this study was to determine if a statistically significant difference existed in self concept prior to and following preventive oral health services in clients undergoing drug rehabilitation. Individuals residing at the Drug Dependency Treatment Program Unit at McGuire Veterans Administration Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, comprised the control and experimental groups.

Data were organized according to a randomized groups, pretest-posttest design with preventive oral health services as the active independent variable. The dependent variables, Total Positive Score, Self Satisfaction Score, and Physical Self Score were measured by the Tennessee Self Concept Scale.

A two group time series design was used to determine if exposure of adolescent clients to dental plaque charts during oral health instruction sessions is effective in motivating them to improve oral health over a six month period. Fifty-six adolescents who previously had received treatment at Old Dominion University Dental Hygiene Clinic consented to participate and were randomly assigned to a control or experimental group. Both groups of adolescents received identical oral health instructions from a research assistant; the experimental group's oral health instruction included an additional discussion about the dental plaque chart. The purpose of this investigation was to compare two methods for improving the oral health and oral hygiene status of adult dental clients. Fifty subjects were selected and randomly assigned to two groups. Over a 75-day period, Group A used disclosing tablets on a daily basis to reveal dental plaque deposits to control dental disease; Group Bused signs of gingival bleeding on a daily basis to control dental disease. ทัศนคติของนิสิตทันตแพทย์ เรื่องการประกอบวิชาชีพในอนาคต ของนิสิต ทันตแพทย์ชั้นปีที่ 3 ถึง 6 ปีการศึกษา 2522 ของคณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย จํานวน 170 คน เป็นชาย 70 คน หญิง 100 คน พบว่า ผู้ที่มีลําเนาเดิมอยู่ในกรุงเทพมหานคร มีแนวโน้มที่จะประกอบวิชาชีพในอนาคตในกรุงเทพมหานคร ร้อยละ 62.89 ส่วนผู้ที่มีภูมิลําเนาเดิมในต่างจังหวัด มีแนวโน้มที่จะประกอบวิชาชีพในอนาคตในต่างจังหวัด ร้อยละ 45.83 และนิสิตได้แสดงความคิดเห็นเรื่องสิทธิพิเศษบางประการว่า ถ้าได้รับสิทธิพิเศษดังกล่าว จะมีแนวโน้ม ร้อยละ 67.65 ที่จะออกไปประกอบวิชาชีพในต่างจังหวัด และแสดงความเห็นร้อยละ 71.18 ว่าควรมีการบังคับให้นิสิตออกปฏิบัติงานในหน่วยงานทันตกรรมในต่างจังหวัดเมื่อจบการศึกษาแล้วเป็นระยะเวลา 1 ปี

การศึกษาเรื่อง ความรู้ ทัศนคติ และพฤติกรรม เกี่ยวกับทันตสุขภาพ ของคนไทย 2 กลุ่ม ซึ่งมีระดับการศึกษาและเศรษฐานะต่างกัน ได้แก่ กลุ่มพนักงาน ของธนาคาร และกลุ่มคนงานในโรงงานอุตสาหกรรม พบว่า ทั้ง 2 กลุ่มมีความรู้ และทัศนคติเกี่ยวกับทันตสุขภาพ ทันตแพทย์ และบริการทันตกรรมไม่แตกต่างกัน แต่มีความแตกต่างกันในพฤติกรรมเกี่ยวกับจัดอันดับความต้องการ ชนิดของบริการ ทันตกรรม การไปพบทันตแพทย์ และการดูแลทันตสุขภาพของบุตร ซึ่งความแตกต่างนี้มีสาเหตุจากเศรษฐานะร่วมอยู่ด้วย

The relative merits of laminagraphic and panographic radiographic images of the temporomandibular joint area have been compared.

Serial temporomandibular joint area radiographs were taken with a panographic unit. A dried human skull was used as the study subject. Wire grids were placed over the temporomandibular joint areas. The linear and angular distortion of the wire grids was measured with the plane of occlusion being serially tipped horizontally from minus fifteen degrees to plus fifteen degrees.

This study examined the vocational interests of dental hygienists according to occupational setting and highest level of education. The Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory was used to measure vocational interests of a random cluster sample of licensed dental hygienists.

An ex post facto 2 x 2 factorial research design was used. Occupational setting and highest level of education completed were the attribute independent variables and the Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory scores was the dependent variable.

The accessible population was composed of all first-year, second-year, and post-certificate dental hygiene students at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia, and the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Data were organized according to a 3x3x3 factorial research design with age, Q.P.A., and educational level as the assigned independent variables. The dependent variable, students' perceptions of themselves and the "typical dental hygienist," was measured by the Feminism II Scale.

The purpose of this study was to obtain information on the morphologic changes that occur in cellular cementum exposed to periapical inflammation.

Ten single rooted human teeth were collected. There were five specimens of normal cellular cementum and five specimens of diseased cellular cementum, which had been exposed to periapical inflammation. Each specimen was fractured longitudinally through the apical foramen, leaving the organic component intact. The cross-sectional morphology of cellular cementum was then examined using an ARM Model 1000 scanning electron microscope. Energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry was also conducted on samples representative of the two test groups.

Orthodontic tooth movement was performed on five monkeys (Macaca nemistrina). Oral health was established and exploratory surgery was performed to assess the level of the connective tissue attachment and marginal bone. Measurements of the gingival margin and mucogingival junction were taken and orthodontic forces were applied. The central incisors were moved labially a mean distance of 3.05mm. Post therapy measurements were performed to assess the change which occurred as a result of tooth movement. A study was made to investigate the biological possibility of obtaining new connective tissue attachment to periodontally diseased root surfaces following full thickness flap procedure. Reconstructive surgery was performed on seven teeth involved in advanced chronic periodontal disease. A mucoperiosteal flap was raised and the apical extent of existing subgingival calculus was marked with a notch made into the root just apical to the calculus. Following thorough instrumentation, sterile saline was applied to the root surface for five minutes, and the flap was repositioned and sutured. A study was undertaken to determine the concentration at which a sealer reaches a point of nontoxicity. An in vitro model utilizing HeLa cells and human fibroblasts was used to observe the effect of various concentrations of eight freshly mixed and eight set root canal sealers. Evaluation of toxicity was determined by cell survival which was measured by incorporation of ³H-thymidine into the nucleic acid components of each cell type used. The symphysis was cut A-P and expanded laterally 11 mm, then held and stabilized with a titanium mesh work screwed to the inferior border of the mandible. Preparations used in this study were obtained from an investigation which had undertaken the following:

Durapatite, a hydroxylapatite ceramic was implanted in 24 mature Beagle dogs to study its maintenance effect on the alveolar bone of the mandible.

After dividing the dogs into two groups, a fresh socket and a healed socket group, the posterior teeth were removed and alveolectomies were performed. Eight ceramic implants were then placed in the right mandible of each animal in each group. The healed group received the implants five weeks after tooth removal and the fresh socket group received implants immediately after extraction.

The anterior teeth of five adult pigtail monkeys were moved lingually to correct a previously induced labioversion. These teeth were retained in their more normal arch positions for five months, after which clinical and histologic measurements were made of the periodontium. The untreated cuspids served as controls. Measurements were made to record changes in the gingival margin, the mucogingival junction, the width of keratinized gingiva and the marginal bone level relative to a fixed point on the tooth crowns. Oxytetracycline was administered three times to label areas of osteogenesis in the periodontium.

รายงานการศึกษาเรื่อง สุขภาพของทันตแพทย์ ตอนที่ 2 เกี่ยวกับการทํางาน ของทันตแพทย์พบว่า ทันตแพทย์ส่วนใหญ่ประกอบวิชาชีพทันทีหลังจากจบการศึกษา และทํางานมาโดยตลอดจนถึงปัจจุบัน สาเหตุของการหยุดทํางานไปบ้าง ส่วนใหญ่ ได้แก่ การไปศึกษาต่อทั้งนอกและในประเทศ 70% ของทันตแพทย์ที่ตอบแบบ สอบถาม ทํางานโดยรับราชการและประกอบวิชาชีพส่วนตัวด้วย โดยลงมือทํางาน ทันตกรรมเอง ซึ่งใช้เวลาประมาณวันละ 8.7 ชั่วโมง และมีจํานวนคนไข้เฉลี่ย 20 คนต่อวัน นอกจากนั้นทํางานโดยรับราชการหรือประกอบวิชาชีพส่วนตัวเพียงอย่างเดียว โดยมีชั่วโมงการทํางานและจํานวนคนไข้น้อยกว่าผู้ประกอบอาชีพทั้งสองอย่าง ในการประกอบอาชีพส่วนตัวนั้น ส่วนใหญ่ทันตแพทย์ทํางานโดยลําพัง ไม่มี บุคลากรอื่นนอกจากผู้ช่วยทํางานบางอย่างเท่านั้น แต่การทําราชการ ส่วนใหญ่จะมีผู้ร่วมงานเป็นแพทย์และทันตแพทย์อื่น สถานที่ทํางานของทันตแพทย์มากกว่าครึ่ง หนึ่งอยู่ในกรุงเทพมหานคร และมีลักษณะเป็นตึกหรือตึกแถว ส่วนใหญ่ติดเครื่องปรับอากาศในคลินิคส่วนตัว และทันตแพทย์มีความเห็นว่าสถานที่ทํางานตั้งอยู่ในสภาวะอากาศเป็นพิษน้อย ในขณะทํางานสําหรับทันตแพทย์ที่รับราชการจะยืนมาก กว่านั่ง แต่ในคลินิคส่วนตัวส่วนใหญ่จะนั่งมากกว่ายืน และกว่าครึ่งของทันตแพทย์เดินทางมาทํางานโดยพาหนะส่วนตัว

Oral Leukoplakia อาจพบได้ในช่องปากของผู้ป่วยที่มีการระคายเคืองสูง และสุขภาพภายในช่องปากไม่ดี ตลอดจนการมี systemic factors บางอย่างเข้ามาเกี่ยวข้องด้วย ดังรายงานผู้ป่วยรายนี้ เป็นชายไทยมาที่ภาควิชาเวชศาสตร์ช่องปาก เนื่องจากมีฝ้าหยาบหนาขึ้นที่กระพุ้งแก้มด้านในขยายกว้างและมีอาการตึง ๆ จากการตรวจทางคลินิคและจุลพยาธิวิทยา พบว่าเป็นการหนาตัวของเซลล์ในชั้นแกรนนูลาร์ (granular) และชั้นเคอราติน (keratin) ซึ่งเป็นลักษณะที่พบใน leukoplakia และอาจมีโอกาสจะเปลี่ยนเป็นเนื้อร้าย (Cancer) ได้ในเวลาต่อมา
