Dental Advertising: A Survey Of Practicing Dentists In South Carolina, Francis M. Beylotte

An advertising survey was conducted amongst the practicing dentists in South Carolina (1046) dentists. The survey consisted of three distinct parts. The first section contained specific demographic questions regarding a dentist's age, length of practice, the practice location, and the size of the community which the dentist serves. The second section consisted of an opinionaire, in which, the dentist's attitude concerning the using of personal dental advertisements were evaluated. Through a third section, the number and percentage of responding dentists utilizing personal dental advertising, the type of advertisement being used, and the amount of monies being allocated for advertising were …

The effect of synexin (an adrenal medullary protein) on the kinetics of Ca2+- and Mg2+-mediated membrane fusion was examined. Membrane fusion was studied by monitoring intermixing of the aqueous contents of phospholipid vesicles. Synexin facilitated Ca2+-mediated, but not Mg2+-mediated, fusion of phosphatidate/phosphatidylethanolamine (1:3) and phosphatidate/phosphatidylserine/phosphatidylethanolamine/cholesterol (1:2:3:2) vesicles. The threshold concentration of Ca2+ for fusion was decreased to approximately equal to 10 microM in the presence of synexin at 6 micrograms/ml and 1.5 mM Mg2+ in vesicle suspensions containing 50 microM lipid. This effect of synexin was drastically inhibited by including 25% phosphatidylcholine (mol/mol) in the vesicle membrane. It is proposed …

The effects of several Ca2+-binding proteins (calmodulin, prothrombin, and synexin) on the kinetics of Ca2+-induced membrane fusion were examined. Membrane fusion was assayed by following the mixing of aqueous contents of phospholipid vesicles. Calmodulin inhibited slightly the fusion of phospholipid vesicles. Bovine prothrombin and its proteolytic fragment 1 had a strong inhibitory effect on fusion. Depending on the phospholipid composition, synexin could either facilitate or inhibit Ca2+-induced fusion of vesicles. The effects of synexin were Ca2+ specific. 10 microM Ca2+ was sufficient to induce fusion of vesicles composed of phosphatidic acid/phosphatidylethanolamine (1:3) in the presence of synexin and 1 mM …

This study was designed to histologically determine the relationship of the periodontal probe tip to the periodontal tissues during probing of untreated periodontal pockets and periodontal pockets treated with oral hygiene and root planing. Human, condemned, single rooted teeth with buccal probing pocket depth at least 6 mm were used. Two groups of specimens were included; 12 untreated teeth from 6 patients and 15 treated teeth from 10 patients.

In the treated group, the effects of therapy were monitored clinically every two weeks until maximum improvement had taken place. A periodontal probe tip was then inserted on the buccal aspect …

การศึกษาวิจัยเรื่อง สุขภาพในช่องปากของคนไทย 2 กลุ่ม ซึ่งมีระดับการ ศึกษาและเศรษฐานะต่างกัน ได้แก่ กลุ่มพนักงานของธนาคารและกลุ่มคนงานใน โรงงานอุตสาหกรรม พบว่า ทั้ง 2 กลุ่มมีสถานภาพของโรคฟันผุแตกต่างกัน แต่ ความต้องการทางทันตกรรมหัตถการไม่ต่างกัน ส่วนสถานภาพของปริทันต์และความ ต้องการการรักษา สถานภาพของปริทันต์แตกต่างกัน สถานภาพการใส่ฟันต่างกัน แต่ความต้องการบริการทางด้านทันตกรรมประดิษฐ์และทันตกรรมจัดฟันไม่แตกต่างกัน ซึ่งความแตกต่างนี้มีสาเหตุมาจากเศรษฐานะและการศึกษาร่วมอยู่ด้วย

ผลการรักษาไทรเจมินาล นิวราลเจียโดยการผ่าตัด, สุจิตรา วงศ์ทองศรี, พรรณี สุ่มสวัสดิ์

จากการศึกษาจากรายงานผู้ป่วยที่ได้รับการรักษา ไทรเจมินาล นิวราลเจีย (Trigeminal neuralgia) โดยการผ่าตัด 113 ราย ปรากฏว่า การรักษาจากการผ่าตัดวิธี Subtemporal retrogasserian neurectomy และ Suboccipital retrogasserian neurectomy ได้ผลสูง คือ 85 % และ 90 % แต่ภายหลังผ่าตัดมีการสูญเสียการรับความรู้สึกของใบหน้าข้างนั้นและเกิดอาการแทรกซ้อนต่าง ๆ ได้ ส่วนการใช้ electrosurgery วิธี percutaneous radiofrequency thermocoagulation น่าจะเป็นวิธีที่ดีที่สุดให้ผลถึง 96 %

การพิจารณาการถอนฟันกรามแท้ซี่แรกในฟันชุดผสม, พรทิพย์ ถนอมสิงห์

การสูญเสียฟันกรามแท้ซี่แรกมีสาเหตุได้หลายประการ ประการที่สําคัญเกิดจากพยาธิสภาพ เช่น โรคฟันผุ การสูญเสียฟันกรามแท้ซี่แรกไปย่อมมีผลต่อการสบฟันในกรณีที่ไม่สามารถบูรณะฟันกรามแท้ซี่แรก หรืออาจจะบูรณะไว้ได้เพียงชั่วระยะเวลาหนึ่งเท่านั้น ควรตัดสินใจถอนฟันซี่ดังกล่าวออกเสียในช่วงที่ยังมีฟันชุดผสมอยู่ ทั้งนี้เพื่อให้พื้นที่ข้างเคียงสามารถเคลื่อนที่เข้ามาในบริเวณช่องว่างของฟันที่ถูกถอนไปได้ เพราะฟันซี่ถัดไปนั้นสามารถจัดเรียงตัวเองได้ตามธรรมชาติ ในการพิจารณาการถอนฟันนั้นจําเป็นจะต้องพิจารณาถึงสภาวะที่เหมาะสมหลายประการ ได้แก่ อายุที่พอเหมาะคือ อายุประมาณ 6-9 ปี นอกจากนั้นควรพิจารณาถึงลักษณะการสบฟันที่ปกติ การสร้างตัวของรากฟันกรามแท้ซี่ที่สองซึ่งควรสร้างน้อยกว่าครึ่ง จํานวนพื้นที่มีอยู่ในช่องปากในขณะนั้น และความสมดุลย์ของใบหน้า เป็นส่วนประกอบอีกด้วย

การรวบรวมสถิติข้อมูลของงานบริการทันตกรรมในกรุงเทพมหานคร เพื่อศึกษาแนวโน้มของงานทางทันตกรรมว่าเปลี่ยนแปลงไปในลักษณะใด พบว่าแนวโน้มของงานถอนฟันลดลงจาก 53.65% ในปี 2515 เป็น 42.22% ในปี 2520 และงาน อุดฟัน รักษาโรคเหงือก รักษาคลองราก ผ่าตัดฟันคุด มีแนวโน้มสูงขึ้น

การศึกษาประสิทธิภาพของกลูตาราลดีไฮด์ในการใช้ทําความสะอาดเครื่องมือทันตกรรม พบว่ากลูตาราลดีไฮด์ให้ผลดีต่อจุลินทรีย์หลายชนิด ภายในเวลา 2-10 นาที เมื่อทดลองเปรียบเทียบกับสารเคมีชนิดอื่นซึ่งนิยมใช้กันแพร่หลายในวงการทันตแพทย์ไทยที่นํามาใช้ในการทดลองเดียวกันนี้จะเห็นว่าดีกว่า

คนไข้ได้รับการตัดรากฟัน (Root amputation) เพื่อจะรักษาโรคปริทันต์ที่อยู่ในระยะรุนแรง รายงานนี้เป็นรายงานผลการรักษาผู้ป่วยปริทันต์ โดยการตัดรากฟันออกหนึ่งรากหลังจากการตัดรากฟันซี่นั้นได้รับการทําครอบฟันเพื่อเป็นตัวยึด (Abutment) สําหรับการทําสะพานฟัน ทั้งนี้เพื่อเป็นการเข้าเผือกฟันเอาไว้ ผู้ป่วย ต้องมารับการดูแลในเรื่องการทําความสะอาดทุก 3-6 เดือน ตลอดระยะเวลา 5 ปี ผลการรักษาเป็นที่น่าพอใจทั้งสภาพเนื้อเยื่อปริทันต์และการใช้งานของฟัน
