Expansion of the maxilla at the midpalatal suture has had much investigation and is a recognized option in orthodontic therapy. Lateral expansions of the mandible through surgical separation at the symphysis have been done in animal studies. A combination of these procedures has not yet been done together.

The purpose of this study was to expand both the maxilla and the mandible of a baboon simultaneously while maintaining occlusion. The amount of expansion and stability was studied using photographs, models, cephalograms, and tetracycline bone labels using U.V. microscopy.

Analysis Of The Time-Dependent Force Loss Of Orthodontic Wires, David Jaekwan Jo

In testing the force loss of five brands of orthodontic wire under a variety of stress modes, it was found that; 1) heat treatment reduced force loss in all the wires; 2) the amount of time-dependent force loss increased when the magnitude of force was raised.

A further indication was that a sharp bend on the tested wire did not affect force loss. Force applied to unwind a loop produced force losses from 180 to 350% above the loss that occurred when force was applied to wind a loop.

Confusion exists in the orthodontic literature when the modulus of elasticity of standard orthodontic wire is reported to either increase, decrease, or remain constant when that wire is heat treated or work hardening.

The objectives of this work include: 1. Introducing the acoustic pulse-propagation technique as a test for determining the modulus of elasticity in orthodontic wire, and 2. ฟันหน้าแท้จำนวน 400 ซี่ ซึ่งถูกถอนจากโรงพยาบาลทั้งส่วนกลางและส่วนภูมิภาค ได้ถูกรวบรวมนำมาใช้ในการศึกษาถึงตำแหน่งของรูเปิดคลองรากฟันที่เบี่ยงเบนไปจากปลายราก การกำหนดตำแหน่งและการวัดระยะทางของรูเปิดคลองรากที่เบี่ยงเบนไปจากปลายรากศึกษา โดยใช้กล้อง Stereomicroscope พร้อมด้วย eyepiece micrometer พบว่าอัตราของความเบี่ยงเบนสูงถึงร้อยละ 92.0 และระยะห่างระหว่างรูเปิดคลองรากฟันไปยังปลายรากมีค่า เฉลี่ยประมาณ 0.56 ม.ม. ความชุกของตําแหน่งรูเปิดคลองรากฟันถึงแม้จะพบมากที่สุดบนด้าน ลิงกวลในฟันตัดบน (ร้อยละ 33.0) และฟันเขี้ยวบนและล่าง (ร้อยละ 40.0) แต่ในฟันตัด ล่างกลับพบมากที่สุดบนด้านเลเบียล (ร้อยะ 47.5)

The incidence of rampant caries in patient's for nasopharyngeal cancer who undergone radiotherapy treatment has been well documented. However a study of recent case histories has found that as well as the development of rampant caries after such treatment, another type of caries was also found to be prevalent. This other type of radiotherapy induced caries can be distinquished from rampant caries by virtue of its unique pattern of development.

ไลโปมาเป็นเนื้องอกชนิดไม่ร้ายพบได้บ่อยในส่วนต่าง ๆ ของร่างกาย ยกเว้นใน ช่องปากซึ่งพบได้น้อยมาก เนื้องอกนี้มีลักษณะเป็นก้อนเนื้อที่โตช้า ไม่มีอาการเจ็บปวด คลำนุ่ม ประกอบด้วยเซลล์ไขมันจำนวนมาก ลักษณะทางคลินิกคล้ายกับไฟโบรมา ซึ่งทำให้การ พิเคราะห์โรคขั้นต้นผิดไปได้ รายงานนี้กล่าวถึงผู้ป่วยที่มาพบทันตแพทย์ด้วยมีก้อนเนื้อในปาก ไม่มีอาการเจ็บปวดใด ๆ แต่รำคาญเนื่องจากกัดถูกเสมอเวลารับประทานอาหาร ทันตแพทย์ ได้ให้การพิเคราะห์โรคขั้นต้นเป็นไฟโบรมา และทำการรักษาโดยตัดออกทั้งหมด แล้วส่งชิ้นเนื้อมาตรวจทางจุลพยาธิวิทยา ที่ภาควิชาทันตพยาธิวิทยา คณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ ลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ผลการตรวจ เป็นไลโปมา

ตำแหน่งของแนวกลางใบหน้า กับแนวกลางฟันบนและล่างในคนไทย, โสภี ชาติสุทธิพันธุ์

ในการศึกษาตำแหน่งของแนวกลางใบหน้า คือร่องเหนือริมฝีปากบน และเนื้อยึด ริมฝีปากบนและล่าง กับแนวกลางฟันบนและล่าง จากผู้ป่วยคนไทยทั้งเพศชายและเพศหญิง จำนวน 775 คน พบว่าในผู้ป่วยส่วนมาก ทั้งเพศชายและเพศหญิงไม่มีความแตกต่างกัน คือ มีแนวกลางฟันบนตรงกับเนื้อยึดริมฝีปากบน มากกว่าจะตรงกับร่องเหนือริมฝีปากบน และ แนวกลางฟันล่างตรงกับเนื้อยึดริมฝีปากล่าง โดยมีแนวกลางฟันล่างเบี่ยงเบนอยู่ไปทางซ้ายของแนวกลางฟันบน ในจำนวนใกล้เคียงกันทั้งสองเพศ ดังนั้นในการเรียงฟันปลอมจึงควรยึดหลักสําคัญ โดยให้ฟันปลอมนั้นมีแนวกลาง ฟันบนตรงกับเนื้อยืดริมฝีปากบน และแนวกลางฟันล่างตรงกับเนื้อยึดริมฝีปากล่าง ส่วนแนว กลางฟันล่างที่เพิ่มจำนวนฟันที่อยู่ไปทางซ้ายในช่วงอายุมากขึ้นนั้น ควรจะได้รับการพิจารณา และศึกษาต่อไป

สภาวะโรคฟันผุในฟันน้ำนมและฟันแท้ของ เด็กนักเรียน ในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร, ขวัญชัย ปรัชญา, ยุทธนา ปัญญางาม

การศึกษาสภาวะโรคฟันผุในเด็กนักเรียนระดับประถมศึกษา (อายุ 6-12 ปี) ที่มา จากครอบครัวที่มีฐานะทางเศรษฐกิจค่อนข้างต่ำในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร จำนวน 1,508 คน พบว่า อัตราความชุกชุม (prevalence) ของโรคฟันผุในฟันแท้ของประชากรกลุ่มตัวอย่างมี ค่าคิดเป็นร้อยละ 84.10 ในขณะที่ฟันน้ำนมมีค่าเป็นร้อยละ 73.62 สภาพความรุนแรงของ โรคฟันผุในฟันแท้ที่แสดงด้วยค่าเฉลี่ยของฟันผุถอนอุดคิดเป็นซี่ต่อคนและด้านต่อคน จะตำ เมื่อเด็กอายุน้อยและค่อย ๆ เพิ่มขึ้นเมื่อ ในเมื่ออายุมากขึ้น โดยมีค่าเป็น 1.22 2.16 2.37 3.20 3.71 4.27 5.17 ปีต่อคน และ 1.86 3.65 4.00 5.89 6.77 7.66 9.74 ด้านต่อคน ตามลำดับ จะเห็นได้ว่าค่าเฉลี่ยที่คิดเป็นด้านต่อคนจะเพิ่มเร็วกว่าคิดเป็นซี่ต่อคน ซึ่งแสดง ว่ามีการลุกลามของรอยผุไปยังด้านอื่นของซี่ฟันเพิ่มขึ้นเมื่ออายุมากขึ้น สำหรับค่าเฉลี่ยของ ฟันผุและอุดในฟันน้ำนมพบว่าสูงเมื่ออายุน้อยแล้วค่อย ๆ ลดลง เมื่ออายุมากขึ้น ทั้งนี้เนื่องจาก ไม่สามารถบันทึกข้อมูลการหลุดหายไปของฟันน้ำนมว่ามีประวัติการผุอย่างไรหรือไม่ จึงดูเหมือนว่าค่าดังกล่าวลดลง อย่างไรก็ดีเมื่อนำข้อมูลค่าเฉลี่ยฟันผุถอนอุดของฟันแท้มาวิเคราะห์ หาความสัมพันธ์กับอัตราฟันผุและอุดของฟันน้ำนม โดยคำนวณหาค่าสัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์ (correlation coefficient, r) พบว่าเด็กกลุ่มอายุ 6, 7 และ 8 ปี จะมีความสัมพันธ์กัน ระหว่างอัตราความรุนแรงของโรคฟันผุของฟันน้ำนมกับฟันแท้ นั่นคือเมื่อตรวจพบว่ามีฟันน้ำนมผุ มากก็น่าจะพบฟันแท้ผุมากด้วย หรือถ้าตรวจพบมีฟันน้ำนมผุน้อย ฟันแท้ก็จะผุน้อย ซึ่ง แสดงให้เห็นว่าถ้าได้มีการดูแลฟันน้ำนมมาอย่างดีตั้งแต่เริ่มมีฟันน้ำนมซี่แรกโผล่ขึ้นสู่ช่องปาก จนถึง 5-6 ขวบแล้ว เมื่อฟันแท้เริ่มขึ้นจะมีโอกาสผุน้อยด้วย ทั้งนี้เพราะองค์ประกอบที่ก่อให้ เกิดโรคฟันผุได้ถูกควบคุมไว้อย่างดีแล้ว

การมีแผลพุพองในช่องปากที่เกี่ยวข้องกับโรคทางภูมิคุ้มกันนั้น ก่อให้เกิดความรำคาญ และอาการเจ็บปวดแก่ผู้ป่วยอย่างยิ่ง แม้ว่าปัจจุบันยังไม่มีการรักษาให้หายขาด แต่ก็สามารถ ควบคุมและบรรเทาอาการของรอยโรคเหล่านั้นได้โดยใช้ยาประเภทอิมมูโนเรคคิวเลเตอร์ บทความ นี้จึงได้รวบรวมลักษณะธรรมชาติการเกิดของรอยโรค ยาที่ใช้รักษา โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งคอร์ติ โคสเตียรอยด์ อะซาไธโอพริน และลีวามิโซล เพื่อใช้เป็นประโยชน์ต่อการพิจารณาให้การ รักษาผู้ป่วยเหล่านั้นต่อไป

The purpose of this investigation was to determine the main and interaction effects of two oral hygiene regimens and periodontal instrumentation on the periodontal health status of subjects between the ages of 18 and 70 over a two-month period. The sample consisted of 16 subjects with moderate periodontitis. A split-mouth design was used; subjects brushed with fluoridated toothpaste on one side of the mouth and brushed with a hydrogen peroxide-sodium bicarbonate paste on the contralateral side. Deflection Of Conventional Versus Nondeflecting Dental Needles In Vitro, Arthur H. Jeske, Bryan F. Boshart

Deflection of conventional and newly introduced nondeflecting dental local anesthetic needles were compared in vitro by radiographic examination of the course of the needles in a hydrocolloid impression material. Results indicated significantly less deflection of the new needles when compared to a variety of conventional needles. Controlled clinical trials will be required to test the significance of this finding.

การวิเคราะห์ภูมิหลังและความต้องการของผู้ใช้บริการ ทันตกรรม ที่ คณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย, สุนทร ระพิสุวรรณ, ประกอบ บูรณสิน, ธนสิทธิ์ เสรีรัตน์

ได้ศึกษาถึงภูมิหลังและความต้องการรักษาทางทันตกรรมของผู้ใช้บริการทันตกรรม คณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย โดยใช้แบบสอบถาม และสำรวจจากบัตร ตรวจจำนวน 467 คน พบว่า 60.4 เปอร์เซ็นต์ เป็นหญิง 77.52 เปอร์เซ็นต์ เป็นคนที่อายุ ไม่เกิน 33 ปี 63.17 เปอร์เซ็นต์ มีการศึกษาสูงกว่า ม.ศ. 3, 60.81 เปอร์เซ็นต์ มีอาชีพเป็น นักเรียน นิสิต นักศึกษา ฐานะทางการเงินของผู้ใช้บริการเทียบโดยอิงรายได้ของครอบครัว ต่อ เดือน จํานวนสมาชิกในครอบครัวและค่าใช้จ่ายต่อคนของคนกรุงเทพฯ พบว่า 65.91 เปอร์เซ็นต์ มีรายได้พอใช้เดือนต่อเดือน หรือไม่ค่อยจะพอใช้ ระยะทางโดยเฉลี่ยจากบ้าน หรือสถานที่ทํางาน มาถึงคณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ประมาณ 7 ก.ม. เวลาที่ใช้ในการเดินทางไปรักษาเฉลี่ยประมาณ 45 นาที ความต้องการรักษา หรือบริการทันตกรรมพบว่า 74.15 เปอร์เซ็นต์ต้องการอุดฟัน รอง ลงมา 49.78 เปอร์เซ็นต์ต้องการถอนฟัน และความต้องการแก้ไขระบบบดเคี้ยวมีน้อยที่สุดเพียง 6.84 เปอร์เซ็นต์ ค่าเฉลี่ยของผู้ใช้บริการถอนฟันต่อนิสิตที่ขึ้นคลินิกเพื่อฝึกหัดถอนฟัน โดยอิงจำนวนคนไข้ใหม่ 50 คน จะเท่ากับ 0.63 คน ต่อนิสิต 1 คน
