The purpose of this study was to determine if a different incidence and severity of maxillary incisor apical root resorption occurs in cases treated with the 0.018 inch versus 0.022 inch slot in standard edgewise mechanics. A consecutively treated sample of 240 patients (98 boys and 142 girls), with a mean age of 13.4 years from the orthodontic clinic at Loma Linda University were studied. 120 of the cases were treated using 0.018" bracket slot with standard edgewise mechanics and 120 were treated using 0.022" non-torqued full banded standard edgewise mechanics. 60 of the cases in each of the above …

Recent studies have shown that forces applied to the mandible during functional appliance and other orthodontic therapies produce measurable changes in the TMJ. It was postulated that specific malocclusions might also apply forces that could produce specific changes in the horizontal morphology of the TMJ. This study involved 104 pretreatment orthodontic patients, 44 males and 60 females. A submento-vertex analysis was performed and correlated with clinical findings including age, sex, malocclusion type, facial type, TMJ symptoms, tooth eruption sequence, crossbites and midline discrepancies. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of mandibular expansion by orthopaedic and surgical procedures in the growing rat mandible.

Sixty-four 35 day old Sprague Dawley Harlan rats were divided into four groups of 16 rats each and categorized as the control, orthopaedic expansion, surgery without graft and surgery with graft respectively. Prefabricated appliances were used for orthopaedic expansion of the mandibles and maintaining surgical expansion at the symphysis in the respective groups. Corticotomy Facilitated Orthodontic Treatment In Adults : A Report Of Two Cases, Randall E. Hoff

The corticotomy procedure is a surgical technique that has been used to facilitate orthodontic treatment for many years. Proponents of this technique contend that occlusal results are more stable and treatment time is reduced. In this study, two cases of dento-alveolar abnormality are presented that were successfully treated in a relatively short time by using the combined efforts of the surgeon and the orthodontist. Although corticotomy has limited applications, it has a place in the armamentarium of the modern orthodontist.

Dental practitioners treating children are often faced with the question of when to initiate orthodontic treatment. Preventive and interceptive orthodontics encourage treatment of young patients to guide developing malocclusions into functional and aesthetic harmony. Success in early orthodontic treatment depends on accurate diagnosis. Dimensional growth of the arches anterior to the first permanent molar is essentially complete by the age of eight, years of age. 24 Therefore, two important factors in dentition alignment may be the arch length anterior to the first permanent molars and the mesiodistal crown diameter (MDCD) of the permanent teeth in the arch.

The Effect Of Fluoride On Acid Production Of Streptococcus Mutans, Bht., Jeerasak Nopakun

The effect of sodium fluoride on acid production of Streptococcus mutans BHT. in the presence of glucose has been investigated. It was found that preincubation of cells in the buffer with fluoride (1, 5, or 10 mM) for 10 minutes before adding glucose (10 mM) resulted in the reduction of the initial rate of acidification. The end pH was also increased in correspond to fluoride concentration. It was noted that the addition of fluoride at pH 6.0 did not change the initial rate of pH reduction. However, the pH at which acid production stopped was about the same values.

การศึกษาโรคอะมีโลบลาสโตมาของกระดูกขากรรไกร จากภาพถ่ายรังสี, ชีระ ไพบูลย์

จากการศึกษาภาพถ่ายรังสีของผู้ป่วยที่เป็นโรคอะมีโลบลาสโตมา ซึ่งเกิดที่กระดูกขากรรไกรบนและล่าง ของผู้ป่วยจำนวน 76 ราย พบว่าผู้ที่เป็นโรคนี้มีอายุเฉลี่ย 29.7 ปี เป็นกันมากในชายมากกว่าหญิง ในอัตรา ส่วน 1.2 : 1.0 และพบว่าโรคนี้พบเป็นกันมากในกระดูกขากรรไกรล่างมากกว่าในกระดูกขากรรไกรบน ใน อัตราส่วน 8.5 : 1.0 จากภาพถ่ายรังสี พบมีการทำลายกระดูกเป็นแบบวงดำหลายวง และแบบวงดำเดี่ยว ในรายที่มีการทำลาย กระดูกเป็นแบบวงดำหลายวง พบว่าวงดำแต่ละวงอยู่ชิดติดกัน ไม่แยกห่างออกจากกัน นอกจากนั้นยังพบ ขอบ ของกระดูกคอร์ติคัลมีการทำลายกระดูกเป็นจัก ๆ กระดูกคอร์ติคัลขยายออก และมีการทำลายปลายรากฟันด้วย ส่วนในรายที่เป็นแบบวงดำเดี่ยว บางรายไม่พบมีลักษณะดังกล่าว ทำให้คิดว่าเป็นโรคถุงน้ำแบบธรรมดา การศึกษานี้ ได้แบ่งโรคออกเป็น 5 กลุ่ม ตามลักษณะที่พบในภาพถ่ายรังสี คือ ชนิดเป็นดิเจอรัส, ชนิดแลเทอรัล เปอริโอ คอนตัล, ชนิดแรดิคิวลา, ชนิดอีเด็นจูรัส และชนิดเรซิดวล ลักษณะที่พบจากภาพถ่ายรังสี จากการศึกษาครั้งนี้จะเป็นแนวทางเพื่อใช้ในการวินิจฉัยโรคและพิจารณา แยกโรคนี้ออกจากโรคอื่นได้ด้วย

น้ำยาฟอกขาวคลอรอกซ์ ซึ่งมีปริมาณ NaOCl 5.25% ที่มีอายุการซื้ออย่างน้อย 0, 6, 12 และ 18 เดือน สามารถระงับการเจริญของเชื้อ Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Candida albicans และเชื้อในน้ำลาย ประสิทธิภาพในการระงับการเจริญของจุลินทรีย์ของน้ำยาคลอรอกซ์ที่ซื้อใหม่ ๆ ทัดเทียมกับ น้ำยาคลอรีเนทเตด โซดา ที่เตรียมใหม่ ๆ น้ำยาฟอกขาวเพรสิเดนท์ ซึ่งมีปริมาณ NaCl 5.25% เช่นกัน มีอำนาจในการฆ่าเชื้อด้อยกว่าน้ำยาคลอรอกซ์มาก

The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effects of two commercial mouth rinses, Listerine^R and Viadent^R, on bacterial plaque and gingivitis. over a sixweek period, 24 adults, ages 18-41, were examined for the amount of bacterial plaque and level of gingivitis using Silness and toe's Plaque Index (PLI) and Gingival Index (GI). Although the importance of dentist-patient communication is generally recognized, the dental literature does not specify what interpersonal behaviors can be used as a basis for evaluating dental students' communication skills. A set of behaviors based on clinical observations is described, and an evaluation of 25 senior students' behavioral skills is presented. Students often did not: (1) spend much time orienting patients before beginning treatment; (2) update medical histories; (3) ask patients if they had any questions before beginning treatment; (4) explain the operation and use of equipment; (5) forewarn patients about uncomfortable procedures; (6) attend to signs of patient discomfort; …

รายงานนี้แสดงถึงวิธีการประดิษฐ์เครื่องมือในการจับฟันสําหรับตัดเป็นแผ่นบาง ๆ เพื่อใช้ในการวิจัยเครื่องมือจับประกอบด้วย ท่อกลม และแป้นยึดท่อกลม ฟันที่จะใช้ตัดถูกยึดติดกับท่อเหล็กไร้สนิมด้วยขี้ผึ้งเหนียวแผ่นฟันที่ตัดได้จะมีขนาดความหนาได้ถึง 70 ไมโครมิเตอร์ ในฟันกรามใหญ่ 1 ซี่อาจจะสามารถตัดออกตาม ยาวได้มากกว่า 10 แผ่น เครื่องมือนี้อาจจะปรับให้จับฟันเพื่อตัดในแนวขวาง หรือเอียงทํามุมเท่าไรก็ได้ตามต้องการและยังใช้จับวัสดุทางธรณีวิทยาและชีววิทยาอื่น ๆ เพื่อตัดได้อีกด้วย

โรคออสซิไฟอิ้งไฟโบรมา ในกระดูกขากรรไกรขนาดใหญ่พบได้ไม่บ่อยนัก การวินิจฉัยค่อนข้างจะลําบากทั้งศัลยแพทย์และพยาธิแพทย์ การทําศัลยกรรม ควักออกหมด และใส่ฟันปลอมปิดจะช่วยลดความผิดปกติของใบหน้า และช่วยการบดเคี้ยวได้เป็นอย่างดี

การใช้สารละลายฟลูโอซิโนโลน อะเซทโตไนด์ ในการรักษาไลเคน พลานัส, ลัคนา เหลืองจามีกร, กอบกาญจน์ ทองประสม

คอร์ติโคสเตียรอยด์ในรูปสารละลายฟลูโอซิโนโลน อะเซทโตไนท์ เป็นยาเฉพาะที่ซึ่งสามารถนํามาใช้บรรเทาอาการเจ็บปวด รอยอักเสบแดง และรอยแผลเรื้อรังที่เกิดจากโรคไลเคน พลานัสในช่องปาก จากการติดตามผลการใช้สารละลายฟลูโอซิโนโลน อะเซทโตไนด์ในผู้ป่วยที่มีรอยโรคไลเคนพลานัสในช่องปากจํานวน 13 ราย พบว่าลักษณะอาการต่าง ๆ ของรอยโรคหายไป เมื่อใช้ยานี้ทาได้ 1-8 สัปดาห์ เหลือแต่เส้นลายสีขาวที่ไม่มีอาการเจ็บ ยิ่งไปกว่านั้นผู้ป่วย 1 รายที่เคยมีรอยโรคอโทรฟิคไลเคน พลานัส เมื่อได้ใช้ยานี้ทาได้ 3 เดือน อาการและรอยโรคหายหมด ผลข้างเคียงของยาที่ใช้ มีแต่การหลุดลอกของเนื้อเยื่อตรงบริเวณที่ทา เกิดอาการปากแห้งและภาวะของการติดเชื้อแคนดิดาเฉียบพลัน ซึ่งสามารถรักษาให้หายได้

ผลของโซเดียมฟลูออไรด์ต่อการเกิดกรดแลคติกในช่องปาก, ธีรศักดิ์ ถาวรทนต์

คณะผู้ทําการวิจัยได้ศึกษาเปรียบเทียบปริมาณกรดแลคติกที่เกิดขึ้นในช่องปาก ภายในช่วงเวลา 30 นาที หลังจากรับประทานน้ำตาลเมื่อบ้วนและไม่ได้บ้วนปากด้วยสารละลายโซเดียมฟลูออไรด์ก่อนรับประทานน้ำตาล ในนิสิตทันตแพทย์ 10 คน สารละลายโซเดียมฟลูออไรด์ที่ใช้มีความเข้มข้น 0.5%, 0.25% และ 0.1% ผลปรากฏว่าการบ้วนปากด้วยสารละลายโซเดียมฟลูออไรด์ดังกล่าวสามารถลดการสร้างกรดแลคติกในช่องปากได้ การลดลงของกรดแลคติกที่เกิดขึ้นหลังจากรับประทานน้ำตาลไป 5 นาที จะมีค่ามากที่สุด เมื่อใช้สารละลายโซเดียมฟลูออไรด์ ที่มีความเข้มข้น 0.5% ซึ่งลดการเกิดกรดได้ถึงร้อยละ 59.6 และจะมีค่าน้อยลงเมื่อใช้สารละลายโซเดียมฟลูออไรด์ความเข้มข้นน้อยกว่านี้ตามลําดับ
