Epidemiology Of Tmj Symptoms, Seechompoo Norabhoompipat, Picharn Chamnannidiadha
Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal
Epidemiology of TMJ symptoms is reviewed on definitions of TMJ syndrome and the prevalence of TMJ symptoms. The syndrome comprises pain of unilateral origin, muscle tenderness, and clicking noise in the TMJ. Four basic symptoms attributable to this syndrome are local TMJ symptoms, peripheral symptoms, bruxism including subjective symptoms, and tenderness on palpation. Frequency of the symptoms and their combination are then highlighted. The prevalence of TMJ symptoms has been discussed on population, distribution by age and sex, as well as other observations including different socio-economic classes.
