Pretreatment submental-vertex radiographs were obtained for 637 adolescent patients (307 males, 330 females) who had presented themselves for orthodontic treatment. The purpose of this study was to: (1) determine the relationship between condylar angulations and depth of cut with the variables: age, sex, and race, and (2) establish normative values for the categories studied. The results indicated that no significant differences existed between the condylar angulations for the variables measured. However, significant differences did exist between the depth of cut for the variables measured and there was significant interaction between age and race with respect to the depth of cut. …

The objective of this study was to compare the "drape" technique as proposed by Economides with the Holdaway technique in predicting post-treatment maxillary lip position and to determine which method was more accurate. Pre and post-treatment lateral cephalograms were traced for ninety (Caucasian) cases equally divided by sex into three treatment groups: a) non-extraction with at least 4mm of upper incisor retraction, b) extraction of upper first bicuspids only, and c) extraction of all first bicuspids. วัตถุประสงค์ของการวิจัย เพื่อศึกษาถึงความพึงพอใจของผู้ช่วยทันตแพทย์ คณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย กลุ่มตัวอย่าง เป็นผู้ช่วยทันตแพทย์จํานวน 37 คน ซึ่งปฏิบัติงานในคณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย โดยการผ่านการตอบแบบสอบถามเกี่ยวกับความพึงพอใจในงานในช่วงเดือนพฤศจิกายน 2534 ผลงานวิจัยพบว่า ผู้ช่วยทันตแพทย์มีความพึงพอใจในด้านการบริหารงาน ความสัมพันธ์กับผู้ร่วมงาน ความมั่นคงในงาน ความก้าวหน้าในงานและรายได้อยู่ในระดับมาก ส่วนความพึงพอใจในด้านลักษณะงาน สภาพแวดล้อมในการทํางานและสวัสดิการอยู่ในระดับปานกลาง ผลการศึกษาครั้งนี้ สามารถนําไปปรับปรุงสภาพการทํางาน เพื่อให้ประสิทธิภาพในการทํางานของผู้ช่วยทันตแพทย์เพิ่มขึ้น

ผู้ป่วยที่มีเหงือกร่น หรือเคยได้รับการรักษาทางปริทันต์ มักเกิดการเผยสิ่งของรากฟัน และตามด้วยภาวะไวต่อการรู้สึกของฟัน ซึ่งอธิบายได้ด้วยทฤษฎีการเคลื่อนไหวของของเหลว ความรู้สึกเสียวฟันที่เกิดขึ้นจะทําให้ผู้ป่วยมีความลําบากในการทําความสะอาดช่องปาก ทําให้เกิดการสะสมของคราบจุลินทรีย์ และเกิดความรู้สึกเสียวฟันได้มากขึ้น ดังนั้น จึงมีการคิดค้นสารเคมีช่วยในการลดหรือรักษาภาวะไวต่อความรู้สึกของฟันขึ้น ซึ่งในปัจจุบันยังไม่มีสารใดที่ดีหรือเหมาะสมที่สุดสําหรับผู้ป่วยทุกราย สารเคมีที่ใช้มีทั้งในรูปแบบของยาสีฟัน ซึ่งผู้ป่วยสามารถใช้ได้เองที่บ้าน หรือในรูปแบบที่ใช้โดยทันตแพทย์ ได้แก่ แคลเซียมไฮดรอกไซด์ สตรอนเซียม คลอไรด์ 10% โซเดียมฟลูออไรด์ 33% โซเดียมโมโนฟลูออโรฟอสเฟต 0.76% โซเดียมซิเตรท 2% ในฟลูโรนิค เอฟ 127 เจล โปตัสเซียมไนเตรท 5% และ โปตัสเซียม ออกซาเลท หรือการใช้พลาสติกเรซิน หรือสารยึดติด นอกจากนี้ ควรแนะนําผู้ป่วยโดยเน้นถึงการทําความสะอาด และลดการรับประทานอาหารหรือ เครื่องดื่มที่มีกรดสูง เพราะจะทําให้การรักษาภาวะไวต่อความรู้สึกของฟันไม่ได้ผล

ศึกษาความสะอาดของน้ำด้วยการนําสื่อไฟฟ้าหาความเป็นกรด เป็นด่าง และเพาะเชื้อ พบว่าน้ำฝนปี พ.ศ. 2534 มีสิ่งปนเปื้อนมากกว่าน้ำฝนปี พ.ศ. 2533 ตัวอย่างน้ำฝนและน้ำกลั่นภาควิชาเภสัชวิทยา คณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย มีความเป็นกรดใกล้เคียงกัน แต่น้ำกลั่นมีค่าการนําสื่อไฟฟ้าต่ำที่สุด ต่ำกว่าค่าน้ำมาตรฐานของตํารับยาอังกฤษ น้ำประปาและน้ำดื่ม บรรจุขายในท้องตลาดมีฤทธิ์เป็นด่างอ่อนและมีค่าการนําสื่อไฟฟ้าสูงสุด สามารถแก้ไขได้ด้วยการต้มเดือด น้ำฝน น้ำประปา และน้ำดื่มบรรจุขาย มีเชื้อ บักเตรีแต่ไม่เกินมาตรฐาน เนื่องจากการมีฤทธิ์เป็นกรดของน้ำฝนและน้ำกลั่น ไม่แนะนําให้ใช้บริโภค อาจมีผลเสียต่อเคลือบฟัน ส่วนน้ำประปาและน้ำขายในท้องตลาดควรต้มก่อนบริโภค

การพิมพ์ปาก เป็นขั้นตอนสําคัญในการสร้างฟันปลอมทั้งปาก ควรทราบลักษณะทางกายวิภาคศาสตร์ของส่วนรองรับฟันปลอม และกล้ามเนื้อโดยรอบ เพื่อเลือกวิธีการพิมพ์ที่เหมาะสม และสามารถตัดสินว่า รอยพิมพ์ที่ได้นั้น ได้ลอกเลียนลักษณะของส่วนรองรับฟันปลอมที่ถูกต้อง เพื่อนําไปสร้างฟันปลอมให้ผู้ป่วยใช้งานได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ

แบบสอบถามแบ่งออกได้เป็น 6 ส่วนคือ 1) ข้อมูลส่วนบุคคลและการอบรมเกี่ยวกับโรคเอดส์ 2) ความรู้เกี่ยวกับโรคเอดส์ 3) ทัศนคติโดยทั่วไปเกี่ยวกับโรคเอดส์ 4) ทัศนคติต่อความตั้งใจที่จะให้บริการผู้ป่วยโรคเอดส์หรือผู้ติดเชื้อโรคเอดส์ 5) การประเมินความเสี่ยงต่อการติดเชื้อโรคเอดส์ในระหว่าง การให้บริการทางทันตกรรม และ 6) พฤติกรรมการป้องกันโรคเอดส์ ทันตแพทย์จํานวน 130 คน ได้ตอบแบบสอบถาม ส่วนใหญ่ยังปฏิบัติงานทันตกรรมอยู่ และ 71% ของผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามเคยได้รับการอบรมเกี่ยวกับโรคเอดส์แล้ว แต่มีเพียง 15% เท่านั้นที่เคยให้บริการแก่ผู้ป่วยโรคเอดส์ นอกจากนั้นพบว่ากว่า 90% ของทันตแพทย์กลุ่มนี้มีความรู้เกี่ยวกับโรคเอดส์ในระดับที่ดี หากแต่ทัศนคติต่อโรคเอดส์โดยทั่วไปหรือต่อความตั้งใจที่จะให้บริการผู้ป่วยโรคเอดส์นั้น พบว่ามีค่าบวกเพียงเล็กน้อยเท่านั้น ทันตแพทย์ทุกคนในการศึกษานี้คิดว่าตนเองจะอยู่ในฐานะที่เสี่ยงต่อการติดโรคเอดส์ ถ้าเขาต้องให้บริการผู้ป่วยเหล่านี้ เมื่อพิจารณาถึงพฤติกรรมการป้องกันแล้วจะพบว่า ทันตแพทย์กลุ่มนี้ขณะที่ตอบแบบสอบถามยังมีพฤติกรรมการป้องกันที่ไม่เพียงพอ สิ่งที่น่าสนใจมากอีกประการหนึ่งก็คือ ทันตแพทย์ที่ผ่านการอบรมเรื่องโรคเอดส์แล้วนั้น มีความรู้เกี่ยวกับโรคเอดส์ดีขึ้น แต่ยังไม่มีการเปลี่ยนทัศนคติหรือพฤติกรรมการป้องกันโรคเอดส์อย่างจริงจัง

อิทธิพลของบริโภคนิสัยต่อสภาวะโรคฟันผุของเด็กวัยเรียน, ระวีวรรณ ปัญญางาม, ยุทธนา ปัญญางาม

การศึกษาบริโภคนิสัยที่มีอิทธิพลต่อสภาวะโรคฟันของเด็กวัยเรียน ระดับประถมศึกษา ซึ่งมาจากครอบครัวที่ระดับฐานะทางเศรษฐกิจค่อนข้างต่ำในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร กลุ่มอายุ 9 ปี และ 12 ปี จํานวนกลุ่มอายุละ 210 คน ชายและหญิงเท่า ๆ กัน ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ปริมาณสารอาหารที่บริโภคโดยเฉลี่ยต่อวันของเด็กชายและหญิงกลุ่มอายุ 9 ปี และ 12 ปีมีค่าเป็น 35.69, 32.50, 40.78 และ 37.47 กรัม -สําหรับสารอาหารโปรตีน มีค่าเป็น 27.16, 35.68, 40.89 และ 28.24 กรัม-สําหรับสารอาหารไขมัน และมีค่าเป็น 166.86, 155.64, 184.61 และ 174.64 กรัม -สําหรับสารอาหารคาร์โบไฮเดรต ตามลําดับ ความถี่ของการบริโภคอาหารเฉลี่ย 6 ครั้งต่อวันเป็นการบริโภคอาหารในมื้อเฉลี่ย 3 ครั้งต่อวันและบริโภคอาหารระหว่างมื้อเฉลี่ย 3 ครั้งต่อวัน เด็กชายและเด็กหญิงกลุ่มอายุ 9 ปีและ 12 ปีมีคะแนนกิจกรรมการแปรงฟันเฉลี่ยเพียง 2.28, 2.83, 2.47 และ 3.1 ตามลําดับ จากคะแนนเต็ม 6 ซึ่งจากการทดสอบโดยใช้เอฟ-เทส พบว่าเด็กชายมีคะแนนเฉลี่ยต่ํากว่าเด็กหญิงอย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ ( α=0.05) อัตราความชุกของโรคฟันผุสูงร้อยละ 90 เท่ากันทั้ง 2 กลุ่มอายุ มีค่าเฉลี่ยฟันผุถอนอุด 2.6 และ 4.0 ซี่ต่อคนในกลุ่มอายุ 9 ปีและ 12 ปีตามลําดับ การวิเคราะห์การถดถอยแบบพหุเชิงเส้นตรง เพื่อหาลําดับความสําคัญของตัวแปร พบว่าความถี่ของการบริโภคอาหารระหว่างมื้อ สามารถใช้ทํานายความแปรปรวนของการปรากฏฟันผุถอนอุดได้ดีที่สุด ( α = 0.01)

ความชุกของการเกิดฟันผุระหว่างฟันตัดกลางซี่บนในผู้ป่วยไทยกลุ่มหนึ่ง, ภรณี วัชรพงศ์, พัชรินทร์ สุภาพรอด, ไพรัช ธีรวรางกูร

ได้ทําการศึกษาเกี่ยวกับการผุด้านใกล้กลางของฟันตัดกลางซี่บนทั้งสองซี่ของคนไทยซึ่งโดยทั่วไปแล้วฟันทั้งสองซี่นี้จะอยู่ในสภาพเหมือนกัน ควรมีการผุทางด้านใกล้กลางเท่ากัน แต่ความเป็นจริงนั้นไม่พบทุกรายที่เป็นเช่นนี้ โดยเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลจากภาพรังสีของฟันหน้าบนจากผู้ที่มารับการถ่ายภาพรังสีทั้งหมด 947 คนที่คณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ในช่วงปี พ.ศ. 2530 ถึง 2532 ตั้งแต่อายุ 10 ถึง 59 ปี พบว่ามีการผุมากที่สุดในช่วงอายุ 20 ถึง 29 ปี ทั้งในเพศชายและหญิง โดยในจํานวนผู้ที่มีฟันผุนั้น ส่วนมากมีการผุเป็นแบบผุทั้งสองซี่ คิดเป็นร้อยละ 75.08 เมื่อรวมทุกช่วงอายุ คือ 10 ถึง 59 ปี มีค่าเฉลี่ยของการผุในฟันตัดกลางบนขวาต่อการผุในฟันตัดกลางบนซ้าย คิดเป็น 74 คน ต่อ 66 คนและเพศหญิงมีการผุมากกว่าชาย ในทุกช่วงอายุ โดยเพศหญิงผุร้อยละ 32.95 เพศชายผู้ร้อยละ 21.96 จากการวิเคราะห์โดยการทดสอบแบบ ไคสแควร์ ที่ระดับความเชื่อมั่น 95% สรุปได้ว่าแต่ละช่วงอายุมีการผุที่ด้านใกล้กลางไม่เท่ากัน โดยในช่วงอายุ 30 ถึง 39 ปีเพศหญิงและเพศชายมีการผุต่างกันอย่างมีนัย สําคัญที่ระดับ 0.05

ความรู้และทัศนคติเกี่ยวกับโรคปริทันต์ของผู้ป่วยที่มารับบริการในแผนกทันตกรรมของโรงพยาบาลรัฐบาลและโรงพยาบาลเอกชน ในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร, ชิตนี วีระประดิษฐ์ศิลป, ศิริพร รัตเชตกุล, สุรสา ตั้งใจตรง, ณรงค์ศักดิ์ เหล่าศรีสิน

งานวิจัยนี้เป็นการศึกษาถึงความรู้และทัศนคติเกี่ยวกับโรคปริทันต์ของผู้ป่วยที่มารับบริการในแผนกทันตกรรมของโรงพยาบาลของรัฐบาล และโรงพยาบาลเอกชน ในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร จํานวนกลุ่มละ 100 คน ผู้ป่วยทั้งสองกลุ่มมีความรู้ที่ถูกต้องในประเด็นที่ว่า สุขภาพเหงือกและฟันเป็นสิ่งสําคัญ ควรไปพบทันตแพทย์เป็นประจํา และการใช้แรงที่เหมาะสมในการแปรงฟัน แต่พบว่ามีความรู้เกี่ยวกับแผ่นคราบจุลินทรีย์ หรือสาเหตุของการเกิดโรคปริทันต์น้อยมาก อย่างไรก็ตาม ผู้ป่วยกลุ่มโรงพยาบาลเอกชนจะมีความรู้และทัศนคติที่ถูกต้องมากกว่าผู้ป่วยกลุ่มโรงพยาบาลรัฐบาล (P < 0.05) ซึ่งความแตกต่างของระดับความรู้และทัศนคติดังกล่าวอาจเป็นผลมากจาก อายุ เพศ อาชีพ และรายได้ของผู้ป่วย จากผลการวิจัยครั้งนี้แสดงให้เห็นว่า ยังคงมีความจําเป็นต้องให้ความรู้เกี่ยวกับโรคปริทันต์แก่ผู้ป่วยให้มากขึ้นในขณะบําบัดรักษาทางทันตกรรม

Inadequate oral hygiene is one of the largest problems facing the dental profession to date. It is estimated that 98% of individuals suffer from dental problems associated with neglect. The objective of this study was to develop effective techniques which aided in the acquisition and maintenance of oral hygiene skills. This study compared the effects of instruction and demonstration with contingency management on plaque percentage scores. A between-subjects design was used with one control and three experimental groups. Treatment of the intrabony or intraosseous periodontal defect has rendered much attention over the last few decades. Numerous approaches have been advocated; however, overall comparisons between treatments do not exist. This review summarizes and discusses outcomes of therapeutic modalities in the intrabony periodontal lesion from controlled clinical studies. The modalities reviewed include scaling and root planning, gingival flap surgery, gingival flap surgery including wound closure with interdental denudation, root-biomodification, placement of autologous, allogenic, or xenogeneic bone grafts, placement of alloplastic grafts, and placement of tissue guiding barrier membranes. The present study was undertaken to investigate effects of fluoride at low concentrations on the precipitation of calcium phosphates on hydroxyapatite seeds in media resembling the enamel fluid composition. To this end, we used a new crystal growth model adopting a miniaturized reaction column. Experimental solutions had the composition similar to that found in the enamel fluid, except for calcium concentrations which were adjusted at 1.0 and 0.5 mM. Precipitation reactions taking place in the system at the higher supersaturation ([Ca] = 1 mM) were characterized by co-precipitation of platelike OCP and rod-like apatite crystals, while the reaction at the …
