Técnicas De Parasitología De Practicas De Campo Para El Uso Durante La Investigación De Mamíferos, Scott Lyell Gardner
Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty and Staff Publications
First paragraph of the introduction:

Catalog Of The Recent Scandentia And Primates In The Carnegie Museum Of Natural History, Suzanne B. Mclaren, Duane A. Schlitter, Hugh H. Genoways
University of Nebraska State Museum: Mammalogy Papers
The Section of Mammals, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, houses six specimens of Recent tree shrews and 611 specimens of Recent primates. The only family in the Order Scandentia is Tupaiidae. Primate families represented are Lemuridae, Lorisidae, Cebidae, Callitrichidae, Cercopithecidae, Pongidae, and Hominidae. For each specimen the following data are recorded: locality; date collected; catalog number; sex; age; nature of specimen; condition of specimen and comments. The latter category gives information on the condition of the skin and skeletal material, and gives information on the availability of the specimen.
Prevalence Of Extreme Detergent Resistance Among The Enterobacteriaceae, Vance Kramer, Kenneth Nickerson, Nancy V. Hamlett, Caroline O'Hara
Prevalence Of Extreme Detergent Resistance Among The Enterobacteriaceae, Vance Kramer, Kenneth Nickerson, Nancy V. Hamlett, Caroline O'Hara
Kenneth Nickerson Papers
The detergent-resistance properties of 208 independent isolates of the Enterobacteriaceae have been examined. Of these bacterial strains, 200 were able to grow in the presence of ≥5% sodium dodecyl sulfate, including all members of the Klebsielleae tribe. This resistance does not appear to be plasmid encoded. It is proposed that detergent-resistant organisms he termed saponotolerant or saponophilic, by analogy with other microorganisms occupying harsh ecological niches. In contrast to their prevalent resistance to anionic detergents, not one of the 208 strains tested was found to grow in the presence of three different cationic detergents. This sensitivity to cationic detergents may …

The Physiology Of The Respiration Of Fishes In Relation To The Hydrogen Ion Concentration Of The Medium, Edwin B. Powers
The Physiology Of The Respiration Of Fishes In Relation To The Hydrogen Ion Concentration Of The Medium, Edwin B. Powers
Papers in Systematics & Biological Diversity
Within recent years much has been added to the knowledge concerning the mechanism of the respiratory function of the blood. Haldane and Priestley (1905) have shown that, at least in the higher animals, the respiratory movements are affected by the carbon dioxide tension of the arterial blood. It has been shown definitely (Hasselbalch, 1912 and citations) that the exciting agent is the hydrogen ion concentration of the blood bathing the respiratory center.
Krogh and Leitch (1919) undertook to study the respiratory function of the blood of fishes in view of the knowledge of the influence of temperature upon the dissociation …

A little more than a year ago at the annual meeting of the Society for Plant Morphology and Physiology, held in New Haven, a committee, consisting of Dr. Farlow of Harvard University, Dr. MacDougal of the New York Botanical Garden and Dr. von Schrenk of the Missouri Botanical Garden, was appointed to consider the question of securing better reviews of current botanical literature. A preliminary report was made by this Committee last June, a t a special meeting of the Society held in New York a t the time of the meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of …

Papers in Systematics & Biological Diversity
It is with peculiar pleasure that I stand before this new department of Natural Science Instruction, and I deem it a great honor that you have asked me to preside over its deliberations. It is an important sign of the times that such a department as this should have been organized by the scientific men of the country. It is significant of a broader view of the work of scientific men that we find so many here to-day to take part in the first meeting of a department which has for its object the discussion of questions pertaining to the …

A Sketch Of The Progress Of Botany In The United States In The Year 1879, Charles E. Bessey
Papers in Systematics & Biological Diversity
In this department the observations of the botanists of this country, as shown by their published papers, were directed mainly to the reproductive organs and their functions ; and with one or two exceptions the papers were short, involving but a few quickly-made observations. Little or no world was done in micro-anatomy (histology) and proper physiology.
While we may regret that so much of the field has been so sadly neglected in our country, we should remember, that as a rule our botanists are overloaded with other duties which render it often impossible for them to command the time for …

A valuable paper appeared in the Botanical Gazette for November, on "The Stem of the Pumpkin for illustrating Plant Histology," by J. C. Arthur. The disposition of the various tissues, with notes upon some of their peculiarities, and suggestions as to the best methods of preparing them for observation, make up the bulk of the paper.. Finally a classified list of the tissues is given.
