The Effects Of Cold Water Immersion On Fractioned Response Time, Patricia Jean Romney
The Effects Of Cold Water Immersion On Fractioned Response Time, Patricia Jean Romney
Theses and Dissertations
Objectives: Quantify the effects of cold water immersion of the ankle on fractioned response time of the dominant lower limb. Design and Setting: A 2x2x5x5 crossover design with repeated measures on time and treatment directed data collection. The independent variables were gender, treatment, time (pretreatment, and post 15 seconds, 3 minutes 6 minutes and 9 minutes) and trial (5 trials for each time group). Response time (Tresp), reaction time (Treac), trial and surface temperature were measurement variables. Subjects: Thirty-six subjects, 18 females and 18 males were recruited from a physically active volunteer college student population. Measurements: Fractioned response time was …
Motor Function Responses To Induced Pain And Cryotherapy, Blaine Cletus Long
Motor Function Responses To Induced Pain And Cryotherapy, Blaine Cletus Long
Theses and Dissertations
Objective: Establish and validate an experimental pain model that will create pain for at least 20-minutes and then use the model to determine if: 1) cryotherapy decreases experimentally induced pain, 2) experimentally induced pain contributes to arthrogenic muscle inhibition, and 3) cold application influences pain or arthrogenic muscle inhibition. To answer these questions we conducted two experiments, the results of which are presented in two manuscripts. Methods: Seventy (n = 30 for experiment I and n = 40 for experiment II), physically active healthy male subjects participated. Interventions: Independent variables used for experiment I were condition (5% hypertonic saline infusion/cryotherapy, …
The Immediate Effect Of Cryotherapy At The Ankle Joint On Postural Control, Bradley W. Sage
The Immediate Effect Of Cryotherapy At The Ankle Joint On Postural Control, Bradley W. Sage
Human Movement Sciences & Special Education Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine the immediate effect of cryotherapy at the ankle joint on measures of static and dynamic postural control. Scores for the chronically unstable ankle were analyzed during a static and dynamic stability test through the use of video analysis. The static test consisted of each subject performing a single leg stance on a multi-axial progressive balance board for one minute. The dynamic test consisted of each subject performing an agility hop test, in which they "hopped" to each of six squares marked on the floor in sequential order. The dependent measure for each …
The Effects Of Three Different Ice Bath Immersion Times On Numbness (Sensation Of Pressure), Surface Temperature, And Perceived Pain, Norma E. Johnson
The Effects Of Three Different Ice Bath Immersion Times On Numbness (Sensation Of Pressure), Surface Temperature, And Perceived Pain, Norma E. Johnson
Theses and Dissertations
Objectives: Determine if numbness differs in magnitude and duration between 10-, 15-, and 20-min ice bath immersions, when temperature was held constant. Design: Dependant variables; sensation of pressure (g), perceived pain (cm), and skin temperature (º C). A repeated measures 3 X 19 factorial guided this study. Conditions were 10-, 15-, and 20-min ice bath immersions. Measurement times were before immersion, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, and 20 min immersion, and 1.5, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 min postimmersion. Subjects: Eighteen college-aged volunteers. Measurements: Subjects participated in three ice bath immersions (10, 15, …
