On May 8, 1911, Mr. Smith Riley, the District Forester, with headquarters at Denver, in a letter to Acting Supervisor Pierce at Halsey, requested that the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station take up energetically the investigation of the pine tipmoth in the Nebraska National Forest. This request being presented to the Department by Mr. Pierce later in the month resulted in the presentation of the problem to the Experiment Station Council as a proposed Station project.
