Contemporary Sunday Hunting Laws: Unnecessary Economic Roadblocks, Ripe For Repeal, Seamus Ovitt
William & Mary Environmental Law and Policy Review
In America, Sunday closing laws, laws restricting what activities individuals could engage in, date back to the early colonial period; those early laws, like much of North American jurisprudence, trace their roots to the laws that existed in England at the time. Historically, however, laws restricting the behavior of individuals, specifically on Sundays, date back thousands of years; initially, their language was tied directly to that of the Old Testament. As God declared:
[s]ix days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day [is] the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: [in it] thou shalt not …
Guarding Central Government Control Over Forest: Forest Governance In The Post Decentralization Indonesia, Ali Muhyidin
Guarding Central Government Control Over Forest: Forest Governance In The Post Decentralization Indonesia, Ali Muhyidin
Jurnal Politik
This article examines whether reform forest governance in Indonesia started in the 1990s, which was partially aimed to promote equity, participation and sustainable forest management, has delivered its promised consequences. In the New Order era, the central government had sole authority in managing forests and granting exploitation rights. This authority has been partially transferred to local governments during a decentralization process to achieve greater efficiency and equity. However, the Indonesian case highlights that such institutional change has not yet produced the expected outcomes. The case indicates a contestation between the local and central government along with institutional resistance, which have …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
The genetic potential of accessions from Solanum section Lycopersicon (S. lycopersicum L., S. lycopersicum var. cerasiforme, S. pimpinellifolium L., and S. habrochaites Knaap & Spooner) for breeding tomato taste has been studied in three environments with clonal replicates. The environment clearly affected the accumulation and level of variation of sugars and acids and derived variables through a direct effect. It seems that photosynthetically active radiation would exert a major effect on sugar accumulation while in the case of organic acids the effect of temperature might be more important. Even more, important genotype × environment interactions can considerably modify the real …

Competition Issues In The Chicken Meat, Chicken Egg, And Pork Markets Of The Philippines, Cenon D. Elca, Prudenciano U. Gordoncillo, Charis Mae T. Neric, Janine P. Curibot
Journal of Public Affairs and Development
This study probed the supply chains of the Philippine markets for chicken meat, chicken egg, and pork; and identified several competition issues that present or may potentially lead to violations of the Philippine Competition Act (PCA). In the chicken meat supply chain, vertical integration in the production segment through contract growing was found to likely lead to an oligopolistic market and possible abuse of dominant position, one of the prohibited acts under PCA. There were reports that such abuse may already be in play in its transportation and consolidation segments. The practice in livestock auction markets to simply formalize pre-arranged …
