Abstract: The consumption of agricultural water resources is enormous, and in the face of water scarcity, optimizing the utilization rate of water resources is urgent. As a common medicinal plant, the planting area of platycodon grandiflorus crops has increased. Therefore, in order to maximize the yield and quality of platycodon crops, different irrigation treatment methods are developed based on their evaporation capacity, and the impact of different irrigation amounts on platycodon crops is explored. In this study, the effects of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) treatment on the antioxidant enzymes and fruit quality parameters of baby squash (Cucurbita pepo L., cv. Soleil F1 and İskender F1) during cold storage was investigated. After being freshly harvested, the İskender F1 (green-skinned) and Soleil F1 (yellow-skinned) baby squash were treated with 250 and 500 ppb concentrations of 1-MCP and stored at 10 °C for 14 days. The 250 ppb 1-MCP treatment suppressed the loss of total soluble solid, ascorbic acid, total phenolic, and total flavonoid contents during storage in the Soleil F1 squash. In this study, the effect of methyl jasmonate (MeJA) treatments (10-3 and 10-5 M) and two different storage locations such as Ankara and Taşköprü, on some quality parameters, such as weight loss, L* values, soluble solids content, firmness, titratable acidity, total phenolic content, antioxidant capacity, vitamin C and allicin content in garlic bulbs (Allium sativum cv. 'Taşköprü') were investigated during a storage period of six months with three replications (30 bulbs or 120 g cloves). Influence Of Different Drying Methods And Cold Storage Treatments On The Postharvestquality And Nutritional Properties Of P. Ostreatus Mushroom, Beyhan Ki̇bar

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study was conducted to determine the effects of different drying methods and cold storage treatments on the postharvest quality and nutritional properties of P. ostreatus mushroom. In the study, six different treatments including natural drying, oven drying (60 °C), microwave drying (450 W), storage at -18 °C, 4 °C and 10 °C were evaluated. After drying and cold storage, pH value, ash, protein, color, total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, antioxidant activity and element contents in mushroom samples were detected. According to findings obtained from the study, drying and cold storage treatments significantly (p < 0.01) affected the postharvest quality and nutritional composition of P. ostreatus. The protein content, ash content, L* color value, total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, antioxidant activity and essential mineral contents such as potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, iron, zinc, and manganese of P. ostreatus decreased after drying and cold storage compared to the fresh mushroom sample. As a result, the best treatment was determined as storage at 4 °C in terms of protection the quality and nutritional value of P. ostreatus during postharvest storage. In addition, natural drying was the most effective treatment among drying methods, and it can be used successfully for longterm storage of this mushroom. However, it was concluded that microwave drying method was not suitable for the preservation of P. ostreatus since it caused significant nutrient and quality losses. The results of the present study will provide useful information about postharvest preservation and processing of P. ostreatus for researchers working on this issue.

This research was carried out over two years to determine the quality changes in fresh-cut apple slices processed after hot water, 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP), and lovastatin treatments followed by controlled atmosphere (CA) storage. This study compared the postharvest quality of Hicaznar pomegranate fruit unpackaged and packaged with 5-kg or 12-kg bags of two different modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) materials (X5, X12, L5, and L12) during 6 months of storage at 6 °C. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the hedgerow system is the main raspberry growing system, which has no clearly-defined standards regarding plant density and fruit-bearing potential per meter of hedgerow. This study evaluates the effect of precision cane meristem management in growing major floricane red raspberry cultivars in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The effects of genotype and altitude of the growing location on physical, chemical, and phytochemical properties of strawberry fruits were investigated. Eight strawberry genotypes obtained from diverse breeding programs were selected. The genotypes were grown at three altitudes: in Antakya (117 m), Urumu (443 m), and Saksak (755 m). The results indicated that genotype and growing location had a significant impact on both physico-chemical and phytochemical characteristics. The effects of various concentrations of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) on `Ankara? pears (Pyrus communis L.) were investigated. Turkey is an important bread wheat producer. The objective of this study was to dissect the diversity of genetic, agronomic, and quality characteristics of bread wheat cultivars grown on 25% of the total wheat area in Turkey. A total of 24 wheat cultivars and 5 wild progenitors of wheat were examined using 24 simple sequence repeat (SSR) primers with a known physical locus on the A, B, and D genomes of hexaploid wheat. Table grapes (Vitis vinifera) of the cultivar Shahroudi were coated with 0.5% or 1% chitosan and then stored at 0 °C for 60 days. Shelf-life qualitative traits including rachis and berry appearance and berry cracking, shattering, decay, browning, acceptability, and flavor were evaluated. Treated berries showed less weight loss, decay, browning, shattering, and cracking. Field studies in 2010 and 2011 were conducted to evaluate the effect of variable nitrogen rates (0-100 kg N ha^{-1}) and culture methods (transplanted and direct) on chlorophyll contents, yield, grain quality, and economics in rice crop (Oryza sativa L. 'Basmati-385'). Transplanted rice gave a significantly higher paddy yield of 19.18% versus direct-seeded crop. Nitrogen application at 100 kg N ha^{-1} provided a maximum paddy yield (4.39 and 4.67 t ha^{-1}) in both years. The influence of irrigation intervals on the physicochemical quality attributes and fruit cracking of litchi cultivars was investigated by irrigating 4 litchi cultivars at intervals of 3, 6, and 9 days. It was found that cultivars Gola and Bedana had the highest and lowest fruit weight (21.90 g and 14.31 g), pulp weight (16.478 g and 10.85 g), total soluble solids (22.16% and 16.37%), total sugars (21.22% and 15.28%), and fruit cracking (41.60% and 10.40%). Poor crop stand and high weed infestation are the major constraints of direct seeded rice. Seed priming has the potential to improve the seedling emergence and crop stand. This study was conducted to evaluate the on-farm assessment of direct seeded rice by employing different priming techniques such as on-farm priming, hydropriming, hardening, and osmohardening with CaCl_2 and KCl. Untreated seeds were taken as control. Among all the seed priming techniques, osmohardening with CaCl_2 improved the stand establishment, allometric response, agronomic traits, yield, and quality of harvested paddy compared with other priming techniques, and non-primed control in direct seeded culture. The aim was to explore 117 durum wheat (T. turgidum L. conv. durum (Desf.) MacKey) landraces from 2 regions, 5 altitude intervals, and 12 provinces for flag leaf length, width, angle, sheath length, fertile spikes, spike length and width, plant yield, percent vitreous kernel, pearling index, percent grain protein, and 1000 kernel weight. The field experiment consisted of 566 single plant selections from 117 populations with Kunduru 1149 and Kızıltan 91 controls, analyzed via descriptive and multivariate statistical methods. This study was carried out in order to determine the grain vitreousness percentage and stability performance of 44 durum wheat genotypes, which were tested in 3 different environments during 2 growing periods. Grain vitreousness percentage of the genotypes ranged between 69.2% and 90.0%. Svevo, Amanos 97, and Zenit varieties had the highest vitreousness kernel percentages and the lowest grain yields. The negative correlation coefficient between vitreous grain percentage and grain yield, according to correlation analysis, confirms this result. The pollen grains of 32 different walnut cultivars and types were tested in vitro to determine their viability, germination ability, and pollen production level. Viability of pollens was determined by TTC and FDA tests. The hanging drop method and agar in petri method were used for pollen germination. Pollen production of the cultigens was determined with the hemacytometric method. The rate of pollen viability of all the investigated cultigens was high (> 80%). The effects of different O2 and CO_2 concentrations on the scald development and postharvest physiology of Granny Smith apples (Malus domestica Borkh.) were investigated. Apples were harvested at optimal harvest time and stored in 1% CO_2/2% O_2, 2% CO_2/2% O_2, 3% CO_2/2% O_2 and 0% CO_2/21% O_2 (control) at 0 °C and 90-92% relative humidity for 9 months.
