Nutritional Value And Antioxidant Properties Of Viburnum Mullaha Buch.-Ham. Ex D. Don Fruit From Central Nepal, Prabin Dawadi, Rachana Shrestha, Subeksha Mishra, Sayara Bista, Jaya Kant Raut, Tista Prasai Joshi, Lok Ranjan Bhatt

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Viburnum mullaha is a popular wild edible fruit widely distributed in Nepal's mid-hills. Locals consume the fruits of the plants raw and use them to treat a variety of diseases. High value of fat (15%) and protein (3.94%) was evaluated in the seed compared to the pulp with fat 2.1% and protein 1.17%. Both the pulp and the seed exhibited high values of total phenolic content (3346.1 1 ± 0.05 and 2331.03 ± 0.02 mg QAEs/100 g respectively). The samples showed weak antioxidant activity when evaluated by diphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DPPH) antioxidant assay as 50% of radical scavenging activity were 1350 ± …

Introduction To Sorghum Paper Production, Zachary Christman May 2019

Introduction To Sorghum Paper Production, Zachary Christman

Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

Sorghum is a tall grass used for many commercial products such as fodder and syrup. The 10 to 15 feet stalk of the plant has lower lignin than wood and provides a fiber length of 2.31 mm in the outer covering and 1.38 mm for the leaf. Sorghum fiber makes a high quality, strong paper suitable for printing, packaging and paperboard.

Hydrolysis Of Polysaccharides With 77% Sulfuric Acid For Quantitative Saccharification, Güneş Uçar, Mualla Balaban Jan 2003

Hydrolysis Of Polysaccharides With 77% Sulfuric Acid For Quantitative Saccharification, Güneş Uçar, Mualla Balaban

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Classical standard hydrolysis of polysaccharides with 72% sulfuric acid was modified in 2 manners. In order to avoid treatment in an autoclave at 120 °C under pressure, wood or pulp material was first swollen in cold 77% acid followed by hydrolysis steps in diluted acid solutions. Further, the neutralization of the hydrolyzate with dilute barium hydroxide was carried out in heated mother liquor ensuring a crystalline precipitate of barium sulfate. Digestion enables the separation of clear aliquots by decantation in large amounts for analysis by HPLC. The modified procedure allows hydrolyses of polysaccharides with low losses as indicated by correction …

Crystalline Structure Properties Of Bleached And Unbleached Wheat Straw (Triticum Aestivum L.) Soda-Oxygen Pulp, Esat Gümüşkaya, Mustafa Usta Jan 2002

Crystalline Structure Properties Of Bleached And Unbleached Wheat Straw (Triticum Aestivum L.) Soda-Oxygen Pulp, Esat Gümüşkaya, Mustafa Usta

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In this study, the crystallinity index and crystallite size of wheat straw powder, soda-oxygen pulp and soda oxygen pulp bleached with hypochlorite (H) and hypochlorite and peroxide (HP) sequences were determined using an x-ray diffractometer method. The crystallinity indexes of these pulp samples were found to be 45.61%, 52.00%, 52.60% and 54.11%, respectively. The crystallite sizes of these pulp samples were also determined and were 6.4 nm, 3.4 nm, 4.3 nm and 4.6 nm, respectively. On the other hand, the crystallinity index and crystallite size of holocellulose, cellulose and alpha-cellulose in wheat straw were then found to be 65.00%, 55.20% …
