Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Exposure to electromagnetic radiation (ER) with radio frequency is one of the environment's most common and fastest-growing human factors. Therefore, due to the increasing global growth of telecommunication towers and Wi-Fi waves, the possibility of positive or negative effects of Wi-Fi electromagnetic waves (WEW) is essential for the quality and quantity parameters of plants. An experiment was was carried out during the years 2020-2021 at the Research Farm of Tarbiat Modares University to investigate the effect of WEW on the grain yield, fatty acid composition (FA), oil content and antioxidant properties of camelina. Seeds were exposed to Wi-Fi electromagnetic radiation …

Crop growth models can be valuable tools for researchers, academia, extension educators, and policy makers/planners for the evaluation of sustainable and long-term husbandry practices. Determining the optimum sowing window, which can be determined using crop growth models, is imperative under changing climate conditions. Thus, the main objectives herein were to 1) assess the performance of the cropping system model-crop environment resource synthesis-maize model for hybrids and sowing dates in the spring and autumn, and 2) determine the optimum sowing window in 15 districts of Punjab, Pakistan. In the spring experiment, 3 hybrids (P-33M15, M-DK6525, and S-NK8441) were planted in the …

This study was carried out to investigate the potential for the usability of treated olive mill wastewater (OMW) as an organic amendment in agricultural soils under Mediterranean climate conditions. OMW was treated by two different treatment processes as economical (E-OMW) and advanced (A-OMW). The treated OMWs and raw OMW (R-OMW) were applied to a loamy soil at a rate of 100 m3 ha-1 year-1 for 2 years. Soils were sampled 15 days and about 5 months (at harvest) after OMW application for chemical and microbial analyses in each year. The total concentrations of N, P, Cu, Zn, and phenol of …

The Effect Of Tillage Systems On Yield And Quality Of Durum Wheat Cultivars, Andrzej Wozniak

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

A field experiment was conducted for 3 years, from 2008 to 2010, in Uhrusk, Poland, to investigate the effect of tillage systems on the yield and quality of durum wheat cultivars Floradur and Lloyd. The 3 tillage systems were: 1) conventional tillage (CT) - shallow ploughing and harrowing after harvest of the previous crop, ploughing in the autumn; 2) reduced tillage (RT) - only a cultivator was used after harvest of the previous crop; and 3) herbicide tillage (HT) - only Roundup 360 SL was used after harvest of the previous crop. Both cultivars were found to respond differently to …

The effect of water reduction stress on photosynthetic efficiency and the agronomic traits of 10 bread winter wheat cultivars were investigated, with an aim to develop breeding methods for improving wheat drought tolerance. In the 2008 and 2009 crop seasons, the trial was grown in vegetative pots according to the method of a 2-factorial experiment (cultivar and treatment) as a randomized complete block with 3 replications. The stressed version of the treatment was exposed to mild water reduction short-term stress 3 times (at the end of tillering stage, at the flag leaf to beginning of heading stage, and at the …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This research was done at the Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute in Samsun, in 2006 and 2007. The study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of discriminant analysis in determining the parents among inbred lines in hybrid corn breeding. Grain yield and some yield components of the hybrid maize, which was obtained from inbred lines that were selected in accordance with top-crossing and discriminant analysis, was examined in the research. According to the average of 2 years, the average grain yield of 11 maize hybrids obtained via top-crossing was 9160 kg ha^{-1}, whereas the average grain yield of 8 maize …

The Relationships Of Some Traits In Turkish Winter Bread Wheat Landraces, Mevlüt Akçura Jan 2011

The Relationships Of Some Traits In Turkish Winter Bread Wheat Landraces, Mevlüt Akçura

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In this study, 42 bread wheat pure lines obtained from 340 landraces, collected from 35 provinces of 7 regions in Turkey, and 7 modern bread wheat cultivars were evaluated under rainfed conditions in Konya, in 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 growing seasons. Experiments were conducted in a 7 × 7 lattice design in 3 replicates. Both genotype-traits (GT) biplot analysis and path analysis were used to investigate the relationships between grain yield and 12 traits. Applying both types of analyses to the multiple traits data revealed that GT biplot graphically displayed the interrelationships among traits (breeding objectives), identified traits that are positively …

Blast Disease Influence On Agronomic And Quality Traits Of Rice Varieties Under Mediterranean Conditions, Spyridon D. Koutroubas, Dimitrios Katsantonis, Dimitrios A. Ntanos, Elizabetta Lupotto Jan 2009

Blast Disease Influence On Agronomic And Quality Traits Of Rice Varieties Under Mediterranean Conditions, Spyridon D. Koutroubas, Dimitrios Katsantonis, Dimitrios A. Ntanos, Elizabetta Lupotto

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The effects of Pyricularia oryzae, the causal agent of blast disease in rice, on plant growth, grain yield, and grain quality under Mediterranean conditions were studied in 2002 and 2003. Four rice varieties were grown under high and low disease pressure, achieved by early inoculation with the blast fungus and by natural infection, respectively. Results showed that inoculation affected the overall plant growth and yield and resulted in a reduction in plant height, number of productive tillers per plant, grain weight, and grain yield. The magnitude of the reduction was dependent on the varietals' susceptibility to the disease. Both types …

Twenty durum wheat pure lines obtained from landraces collected from southwestern districts of Konya and 5 durum wheat cultivars were evaluated under rain fed conditions in Konya between 2005 and 2008 in a 3 replicates randomized complete block design to estimate genetic variation and heritability for grain yield and 6 quality traits. The overall goal of the study was to improve pure lines from durum wheat landraces for low input agricultural areas of the Central Anatolian region and similar environmental conditions. The broad sense heritability estimates ranged from 12.9% (particle size index) to 50.0% (semolina color). The highest expected genetic …

The experiments consisted of 2 sets of treatments. In the first set, the crop was kept weed-free until the growth stages of 4-leaf, 8-leaf, stem elongation, flowering, and podding. In the second set, weeds were permitted to grow within the crop until the above-mentioned growth stages. Weedy and weed-free checks …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The objectives of this research were to assess genotype-environment (GE) interaction and to determine stable durum wheat (Triticum turgidum var. durum Desf.) genotypes for grain yield in the Central Anatolia. Thirteen durum wheat genotypes were evaluated under rainfed conditions using a randomized complete block design with 4 replications. The study was repeated for 2 years and at 3 different locations around Central Anatolia, Turkey. GE interaction was analyzed using linear regression techniques. There was considerable variation for grain yield among both genotypes and environments. Stability was estimated using the Eberhart and Russell method. According to the stability analysis, genotype 10 …
