Fireanalyst: An Effective System For Detecting Fire Geolocation And Fire Behavior In Forestsusing Mathematical Modeling, Yücel Güllüce, Rahmi̇ Nurhan Çeli̇k

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study proposes an effective new fire detection method and monitoring software for an early-warning fire detection system aimed at valuable forested areas, such as botanical parks or high conservation value forests, particularly those with boundaries. These critical forested areas need to be appropriately managed because they contain large concentrations of biological diversity, including threatened or endangered species, which are very susceptible to fire outbreaks; thus, early detection of fire and rapid response have a very important place in the fight against fire in those areas. In this proposed system, special detectors with state-of-the-art multispectral infrared technology and mathematical modeling …

Comparison Of Terrain Indices And Landform Classification Procedures In Low-Relief Agricultural Fields, Derek A. Evans, Karl W. J. Williard, Jon E. Schoonover

Journal of Geospatial Applications in Natural Resources

Landforms control the spatial distribution of numerous factors associated with agronomy and water quality. Although curvature and slope are the fundamental surface derivatives used in landform classification procedures, methodologies for landform classifications have been performed with other terrain indices including the topographic position index (TPI) and the convergence index (CI). The objectives of this study are to compare plan curvature, the convergence index, profile curvature, and the topographic position index at various scales to determine which better identifies the spatial variability of soil phosphorus (P) within three low relief agricultural fields in central Illinois and to compare how two methods …

Mapping Secondary Forest Succession With Geographic Information Systems: A Case Study From Bulanıkdere, Kırklareli, Turkey, Günay Çakir, Fati̇h Si̇vri̇kaya, Sali̇h Terzi̇oğlu, Emi̇n Zeki̇ Başkent, Turan Sönmez, Haci Ahmet Yolasiğmaz

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Developing forest management plans for sustaining the full range of forest values is a challenging task. One of the difficulties in this process is to set and achieve management objectives, and conservation targets. A sustainable forest management concept requires that a target forest structure (the composition and the configuration) be set before developing alternative management actions for the achievement of management objectives and the conservation targets. In this respect, developing and understanding vegetation succession play important roles in setting the target forest conditions. This study was conducted in the Bulanıkdere Forest planning unit (Kırklareli, Turkey) where the biodiversity-integrated multiple-use forest …
