Clay Minerals, Ca/Mg Ratio And Fe-Al-Oxides In Relation To Structural Stability, Hydraulic Conductivity And Soil Erosion In Southeastern Turkey, Kadi̇r Yilmaz, İsmai̇l Çeli̇k, Seli̇m Kapur, John Ryan

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Studies of clay mineralogy and related chemical composition are rarely connected with implications for soil management in the field. However, this study attempts to manifest the practical utilization of analytical data for determining the susceptibility to soil erosion. The data obtained involve the determination of clay mineral properties, calcium/magnesium ratios, and free aluminum (Al) and iron (Fe) oxides on structure stability, and hydraulic conductivity properties. Nine representative soil pedons developed on serpentine, limestone, and basalt parent materials were selected for the study. The soils were initially grouped into 3 according to their structural stability values. Group 1 soils had the …

Hydraulic Conductivity Evaluation For A Drainage Simulation Model (Drainmod), Teki̇n Özteki̇n Jan 2002

Hydraulic Conductivity Evaluation For A Drainage Simulation Model (Drainmod), Teki̇n Özteki̇n

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The objective of this study was to determine the most suitable saturated hydraulic conductivity (K) values as input into DRAINMOD among a range of K data sets developed for the drainage experiment site in North Central Ohio using seven different K estimation methods. The K methods evaluated were monolith, core, auger-hole, MUUF soil database, and using the Hooghoudt, Kirkham, and van Schilfgaarde equations with water table drawdown and drainage discharge data. Simulations using DRAINMOD (Version 4.6) were conducted for the years 1962-1964 and 1967-1971, and runoff and drain discharge predictions were compared with measured discharges. The analyses showed that none …

The Effect Of Tobacco Waste Application On The Physical And Chemical Properties Of Alkaline Soils, Kenan Kiliç, Kadi̇r Saltali, A. Kadi̇r Sürücü Jan 2002

The Effect Of Tobacco Waste Application On The Physical And Chemical Properties Of Alkaline Soils, Kenan Kiliç, Kadi̇r Saltali, A. Kadi̇r Sürücü

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study was conducted to (i) determine the effect of tobacco waste application on the soil structure stability (SS), hydraulic conductivity (HC), bulk density, exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP), sodium adsorption ratio (SAR), and electrolyte concentration of alkaline soils, and (ii) observe the possibility of using tobacco waste for the reclamation of alkaline soils. The study was designed in randomized complete blocks with three replications and tobacco waste was applied at a rate of 0, 0.5, 1.5, 2.0 ton/ha to each block. The hydraulic conductivity and structure stability of the alkaline soils studied were substantially improved with increased rates of tobacco …
