this study, the effects of a number of commonly used pesticides on the activity of the polyphenol oxidase (PPO) enzyme from pesticide-free and pesticide-applied 'Jonagold' apples were comparatively evaluated. Substrates 4-methylcatechol, pyrocatechol, pyrogallol and L-tyrosine were used to determine the substrate specificity of the PPO enzyme obtained from apple. According to the results, on the contrary, PPO enzyme from 'Jonagold' apple did not show any activity against L-tyrosine substrate which is a monophenolic substrate, the enzyme had high affinity against 4-methylcatechol, pyrocatechol and pyrogallol which are di and tri phenolic substrates. This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of Trichogramma evanescens Westwood (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) release with as well as without Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki (Berliner) in biological control of Cydia pomonella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) in the Galaxy Gala apple variety grafted onto M9 rootstock in 2016. Four treatments were analyzed: releasing T. evanescens alone (TE), applying B. thuringiensis var. kurstaki (BT) alone, applying both (TE + BT), and a control (C) without any application at all. Turkey, the third leading apple producer in world, produces approximately 2.6 million tons of apples per year. Venturia inaequalis, the causal agent of apple scab, is a major fungal disease among apples varieties. This study was conducted in accordance with the plant protection method for isolates collected from the apple production areas in Isparta Province. Plant samples were collected from the main apple growing provinces of Turkey in order to evaluate the incidence of 4 important apple virus diseases during spring 2004. Collected leaves and shoots were tested using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for Apple mosaic virus (ApMV), Apple stem grooving virus (ASGV) and Apple chlorotic leaf spot virus (ACLSV). Since no commercial antiserum is available, Apple stem pitting virus (ASPV) was tested only using RT-PCR and the results were compared. This research was conducted to evaluate the effect of storage time on some mechanical properties and bruise susceptibility of Williams and Ankara varieties of pear and Starkspur Golden Delicious and Starking varieties of apple. The research was performed in 2 stages. Firstly, compression tests were conducted to determine the mechanical properties of fruits. The effects of different O2 and CO_2 concentrations on the scald development and postharvest physiology of Granny Smith apples (Malus domestica Borkh.) were investigated. Apples were harvested at optimal harvest time and stored in 1% CO_2/2% O_2, 2% CO_2/2% O_2, 3% CO_2/2% O_2 and 0% CO_2/21% O_2 (control) at 0 °C and 90-92% relative humidity for 9 months. This research was conducted to evaluate the effects of vibration frequency, vibration acceleration, packaging method, and vibration duration on the mechanical damage during apple transportation. The research was performed in 3 stages. Firstly, vibration frequency and vibration acceleration were measured on the truck-bed for determining the vibration frequency and acceleration distribution. Harvest Date Influences Superficial Scald Development In Granny Smith Apples During Long Term Storage, Mustafa Erkan, Mustafa Pekmezci̇

The effects of harvest dates on superficial scald development and postharvest quality in 'Granny Smith' apples (Malus domestica Borkh.) were investigated. Apples were harvested at 15-day intervals during 2 consecutive years (2000-2001) and stored at 0 °C with 90% relative humidity for 8 months. At the end of the 8 - month storage period plus an additional 1 week at 20 °C the percentage of superficial scald was lower (24.4%) in late harvested (November 15) apples than in apples harvested early (October 15), which was 85.4%. The effects of various sewage sludge (biosolid) rates and a single dose barnyard manure application on the fruit yield, growth, nutrition and heavy metal accumulation of apple trees were investigated. The experiment was conducted using a completely randomized design with 4 replicates in dry conditions in Van, in the East Anatolia region of Turkey in 2000 and 2001.
