Almond production is usually affected by late spring frosts. Late flowering is an important trait in almond production in order to avoid frost damage. Breeding for late flowering has always been an important objective in almond breeding programs. Utilising molecular approaches may guide and accelerate breeding programs. In the present study, the expressions of the Prunus persica FLOWERING LOCUS T (PpFT) and Prunus armeniaca SUPPRESSOR OF OVEREXPRESSION OF CONSTANS1 (PabSOC1) genes known as floral integrators that promote flowering in plants were determined in almonds (Amygdalus spp.). Frost tolerance is another important trait in almond production. Almond accessions may vary in …

Physiological And Biochemical Responses Of Almond Rootstocks To Drought Stress, Adnan Nurhan Yildirim, Beki̇r Şan, Fatma Yildirim, Ci̇van Çeli̇k, Berna Bayar, Yaşar Karakurt Jan 2021

Physiological And Biochemical Responses Of Almond Rootstocks To Drought Stress, Adnan Nurhan Yildirim, Beki̇r Şan, Fatma Yildirim, Ci̇van Çeli̇k, Berna Bayar, Yaşar Karakurt

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Water availability is a very important factor for the growth and development of plants, which limits the plant production capacity. Rootstocks are widely utilized to improve plants tolerance to various biotic and abiotic stresses. In this study, physiological and biochemical responses of fifteen almond rootstock candidates to drought stress were investigated under in vitro conditions. The shoot tips from fifteen almond rootstock candidates were cultured in MS medium containing 1.0 mg/L BAP, 0.01 mg/L IBA, 30 g/L sucrose and 7 g/L agar. Plantlets were exposed to 0%, 1% and 2% polyethyleneglycol (PEG) as drought stress levels during four weeks. At …

Nematode-resistant clonal rootstock use is limited in Turkey. Throughout a 3-year-study (2012-2014), targeted rootstock candidates were obtained through hybridization between almond and plum cultivars. Some characteristics, such as strong growth ability, compatibility with other almond cultivars, nematode resistance, and rooting of the cuttings were common among the hybrid types. In the hybridization studies, one almond cultivar (Ferragnes) and 2 plum (Myrobalan and Pissardi nigra, both belonging to Prunus cerasifera) were used as female parents, and 2 plum (Myrobalan and Pissardi nigra) and 2 almond cultivars [Ferragnes and AB3 (Amygdalus orientalis Mill. Type)] were used as male parents. In total, 6 …

Investigation Of Root-Knot Nematode (Meloidogyne Spp.) Resistance In Almond Rootstocks With Dna Markers, Sultan Bay Türkoğlu, Nergi̇z Çoban, Ali̇ Özkan, Hali̇t Seyfetti̇n Atli, Canan Can Jan 2015

Investigation Of Root-Knot Nematode (Meloidogyne Spp.) Resistance In Almond Rootstocks With Dna Markers, Sultan Bay Türkoğlu, Nergi̇z Çoban, Ali̇ Özkan, Hali̇t Seyfetti̇n Atli, Canan Can

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Seven almond varieties, Ferragnes, Nemaguard, AB3 (Amygdalus orientalis Mill.), GN22, GF677, Myrobalan(Prunus cerasifera),and Pissardi nigra, and F1 crossbreed almonds, Ferragnes × Pissardi nigra, Ferragnes × Myrobalan, Ferragnes × GN22, Nemaguard × GF677, Myrobalan × AB3 (Prunus dulcis Mill.), Myrobalan × Ferragnes, Pissardi nigra × AB3, and GF677 × Myrobalan, were used to determine resistance against root-knot nematode (RKN) (Meloidogyne spp.) using DNA markers. Parental lines and 316 F1 plants were tested with SSR (plgms8, plgms9, and plgms19) and STS (STS-OPS14a, STS-834b) markers. It was found that plgms19 exhibited 76%, 77.01%, 73.13%, and 86.6% inheritance of resistance in the Ferragnes × …

Morphological And Biochemical Evaluation Of Selected Almond [Prunus Dulcis (Mill.) D.A.Webb] Genotypes In Northern Serbia, Slavica Colic, Vera Rakonjac, Gordan Zec, Dragan Nikolic, Milica Fotiric Aksic Jan 2012

Morphological And Biochemical Evaluation Of Selected Almond [Prunus Dulcis (Mill.) D.A.Webb] Genotypes In Northern Serbia, Slavica Colic, Vera Rakonjac, Gordan Zec, Dragan Nikolic, Milica Fotiric Aksic

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In order to determine the overall degree of polymorphism and detect similarities among genotypes, 19 almond [Prunus dulcis (Mill.) D.A.Webb] genotypes were studied. Variation in traits related to phenology, morphology, and fruit quality was observed, and the results indicated a high morphological diversity of almond genotypes. The majority of important correlations were determined among the traits representing nut size (nut width, nut length, nut thickness, and nut weight) and leaf size (leaf length, leaf width, and leaf area). The lack of correlation between kernel size and chemical compounds enables the creation of a new almond cultivar with large kernels and …
