Selected Engineering Properties Of Tiger Nut As A Function Of Moisture Content And Variety, Ahmet İnce, Kubi̇lay Kazim Vursavuş, Yasemi̇n Vurarak, Pinar Çubukcu, Meli̇h Yavuz Çevi̇k

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Some physical and mechanical properties of two tiger nut varieties (Sarışeker and Balyumru) were determined at four moisture contents. Physical properties including length, width, thickness, geometric mean diameter, mass, 1000-tuber mass, bulk density, tuber density, surface area, terminal velocity, angle of repose, porosity, and friction coefficient were affected by moisture content at a 1% probability level, excluding sphericity. All parameters decreased with a decrease in moisture content except tuber density, porosity, and firmness. Variety only had a statistically significant effect on width, geometric mean diameter surface area, and terminal velocity at different probability levels. Force, deformation, firmness, energy absorbed, and …

Effect Of Wood Chip Size On Hemicellulose Extraction Andtechnological Properties Of Flakeboard, Nadi̇r Ayrilmiş, Jin Heon Kwon, Tae Hyung Han Jan 2017

Effect Of Wood Chip Size On Hemicellulose Extraction Andtechnological Properties Of Flakeboard, Nadi̇r Ayrilmiş, Jin Heon Kwon, Tae Hyung Han

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The effect of chip size on hemicellulose extraction of wood and technological properties of flakeboard were investigated. Three different sizes of wood chips were treated with hot water in a digester at 170 °C for 90 min. After hydrothermal treatment, the wood chips were washed with water and then dried in a dryer. Flakes were produced from control and treated chips using a flaker. Flakeboards were produced from the flakes using urea-formaldehyde resin. The results showed that chip size had a significant effect on the chemical properties of hydrothermally treated wood under pressure in hot water. As chip size was …

Studies On Lignin-Based Adhesives For Particleboard Panels, Ni̇hat Sami̇ Çeti̇n, Ni̇lgül Özmen Jan 2003

Studies On Lignin-Based Adhesives For Particleboard Panels, Ni̇hat Sami̇ Çeti̇n, Ni̇lgül Özmen

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The ultimate aim of this work was to develop a phenolic resin for partially replacing phenol with modified organosolv lignin in phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resin production. The lignin-formaldehyde relationship was determined in a reactivity test. Organosolv lignin-phenol-formaldehyde (LPF) resins were produced in a two-step preparation with different additions of lignin. The method selected for the manufacture of lignin resins dealt with modification of the lignin by the methylolation route. The effects of different substitution levels of organosolv lignin on strength properties were evaluated by testing lignin resin impregnated paper strips. A comparison of the tensile properties of organosolv lignin formulations, impregnated …

Effects Of The Spiral Grain On Some Physical Properties Of Calabrian Pine (Pinus Brutiaten.) Wood, Yener Göker, Nusret As, Turgay Akbulut, Türker Dündar

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In this study, the effects of spiral grain on some physical properties of the Calabrian pine (Pinus brutia Ten.) wood were investigated. For this purpose, 17 sample trees with various spiral grain angles, were taken from the Çakirlar region, Antalya district. The selected trees were divided into five groups according to grain angles. Tests were carried out for oven dry density, density values in volume, shrinkage, fiber saturated point (FSP) and maximal moisture content. The results led to a number of conclusions; In general, density increased in relation to the spiral grain increase. Density (oven dry weight/green volume) increased after …
