The use of microsatellite (SSR) markers has successfully found its application in genetic characterization and examination of the origin of a large number of fruit species. Mediterranean germplasm is characterized by a great variety of almond genotypes. The study covered two geographically distant regions Montenegro (Bar) and Croatia (Sibenik) in a sample of 60 almond genotypes. Genetic analysis of almonds involved the use of ten microsatellite primers for genetic characterization of 60 examined genotypes, which successfully amplified PCR products and were highly polymorphic. Nine microsatellite markers used for the genetic characterization of almonds are derived from Prunus persica (UDP97-402, UDP98-411, …

Walnut (Juglans regia L.) is one of the most common nuts in the world. There are a wide walnut variety of genotypes that differ in forestry, physical and chemical properties. Most of the walnut genotypes, which are natural resources have been evaluated as promising and germplasm sources for breeding. Walnuts are high in many beneficial biochemical compounds, so they have a useful profile for many people in relation to disease risk. Therefore, the demand for production and consumption of walnut is increasing day by day. In the present study, fatty acid and tocopherol profiles of 156 F1 genotypes belonging to …

Genetic Diversity Within Turkish Watermelon [Citrullus Lanatus (Thunb.)Matsumura & Nakai] Accessions Revealed By Ssr And Srap Markers, İlknur Solmaz, Yildiz Kaçar, Nebahat Sari, Özhan Şi̇mşek

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The genetic diversity of Turkish watermelon genotypes selected from the watermelon genetic resource collection was evaluated by simple sequence repeat (SSR) and sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) markers. Most of the accessions were collected from various geographical regions of Turkey. Different Citrullus species, wild relatives, foreign landraces, open pollinated (OP), and commercial hybrid cultivars were also assessed for genetic relatedness. Fourteen SSR primers and 31 SRAP primer combinations were used in the experiment. Both SSR markers (100%) and SRAP markers (97.3%) generated high polymorphisms. Based on the SSR and SRAP data, the genetic similarity coefficients were calculated, and dendrograms were constructed …

Evaluation Of Wheat Genetic Resources Of Azerbaijan On Normal And Saline Fields, Sevinj Nuriyeva, Zeynal Akparov, Elchin Hajiyev, Mehraj Abbasov, Ram C. Sharma

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Genetic variation is a key to successful crop improvement. This study was conducted to evaluate a set of 48 accessions and two controls of hexaploid winter wheat from the gene bank of the Genetic Resources Institute (Azerbaijan) to examine genotypic variation for 11 morphophysiological traits under saline and nonsaline conditions. These accessions belonged to five different botanical groups collected from eight districts in Azerbaijan. Replicated field tests were conducted at Absheron (nonsaline) and Ujar (saline) locations for 3 years. Genotype and genotype × environment biplot analysis was used to determine associations among the accessions and identify superior genotypes for individual …

Morphological, Chemical, And Genetic Diversity Of Wild Myrtle(Myrtus Communis L.) Populations In Sicily, Sara Melito, Salvatore La Bella, Federico Martinelli, Ignazio Cammalleri, Teresa Tuttolomondo, Claudio Leto, Angela Fadda, Maria Giovanna Molinu, Maurizio Mulas Jan 2016

Morphological, Chemical, And Genetic Diversity Of Wild Myrtle(Myrtus Communis L.) Populations In Sicily, Sara Melito, Salvatore La Bella, Federico Martinelli, Ignazio Cammalleri, Teresa Tuttolomondo, Claudio Leto, Angela Fadda, Maria Giovanna Molinu, Maurizio Mulas

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Myrtus communis L. İs a shrub widespread in the Mediterranean area. The interest in this species is growing, mainly due to its pharmacological and aromatic properties. The overexploitation of wild populations induced increasing degradation of plant cover with serious risk of loss of genetic diversity. This research explored the morphological, chemical, and genetic diversity of wild myrtle populations in Sicily, with the aim to provide a first characterization of a core collection of 36 accessions from 7 localities for future domestication programs. Amplified fragment length polymorphism fingerprinting generated 152 polymorphic fragments. STRUCTURE analysis identified three genetic clusters (A, B, and …

In Vitro Screening Of Octoploid Fragaria Chiloensis And Fragaria Virginiana Genotypes Against Iron Deficiency, Ayfer Alkan Torun, Yildiz Kaçar, Belgi̇n Bi̇çen, Nazi̇fe Erdem, Sedat Serçe

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Iron (Fe) deficiency is one of the common problems in strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) growing regions. In vitro screening enables researchers to evaluate genotype performance under several concentrations of Fe in a relatively fast and economical way. Therefore, we evaluated the responses of several genotypes belonging to octoploid Fragaria chiloensis (L.) Mill. and Fragaria virginiana Mill. (the progenitors of cultivated strawberry) against Fe treatments under in vitro conditions. In the first experiment, HM 1, Pigeon Point, CFRA1267 (F. chiloensis subsp. pacifica), and CA1541 (F. chiloensis subsp. chiloensis) were tested with various Fe concentrations (0%, 10%, 15%, 25%, 50%, 65%, …
