Effects Of Cultural Practices On Weed Flora In Virginia (Flue-Cured) Organic Tobacco (Nicotiana Tabacum L.): Green Manure And Irrigation Systems, Anestis Karkanis, Dimitrios Bilalis, Aspasia Efthimiadou, Panagiotis Efthimiadis

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Organic tobacco is a new industrial crop. Field experiments were conducted, during 2005-2006, to determine the effects of irrigation system and green manure on weed flora in organic tobacco crops (Nicotiana tabacum cv. NC 71). The experiments were designed as a split plot design with 4 replicates, 2 main plots (drip and sprinkler irrigation), and 3 sub-plots (vetch and red clover as green manure, and control). The greatest number and dry weight of weeds was observed in sprinkler irrigation. Our results indicate that weed distribution under drip and sprinkler irrigation is related not only to the surface soil water content …

Determination Of The Head Losses In Metal Body Disc Filters Used In Drip Irrigation Systems, Vedat Demi̇r, Hüseyi̇n Yürdem, Arzu Yazgi, Adnan Deği̇rmenci̇oğlu

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The objective of this study was to determine the head losses in several type metal body disc filters manufactured by domestic companies. In order to meet the objective, three different filter designs (L, LT and Y type), each at four different inlet and outlet pipe diameters, were used to measure the head losses at different flow rates in the laboratory. A total of sixteen filters manufactured by three domestic companies (A, B and C) and two different disc elements (linear and curly) were taken into consideration in this study. A comparison of the different filter designs in terms of measured …

Development Of A Mathematical Model Using Dimensional Analysis For Predicting The Friction Losses In Drip Irrigation Laterals With Cylindrical Type In-Line Emitters, Vedat Demi̇r, Hüseyi̇n Yürdem, Adnan Deği̇rmenci̇oğlu

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This paper presents a prediction model developed using dimensional analysis for friction losses in drip irrigation laterals. Drip irrigation laterals with cylindrical type in-line emitters placed at different spacings ranging from 0.2 to 1 m were considered. The parameters affecting the variation in friction losses in laterals were defined as dimensionless terms using Buckingham's pi theorem. In order to develop a model, experimental friction loss data from 14 different drip irrigation pipes, and some domestic and some imported ones with the above-mentioned spacings were used. The model developed in this study accounted for 98.7% of the variation in the data. …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Trickle irrigation systems' efficiency depends on system uniformity, which is determined by water discharge uniformity from emitters. It is impossible to produce 2 identical emitters due to manufacturing variations. The manufacturer's coefficient of variance is used as a measure of discharge variations of emitters. In this study, manufacturers' reported discharge rates and coefficients of manufacturing variation (CVm) values were compared with test results for various types of in-line emitters manufactured by 4 different companies in Turkey. A total of 9 drip irrigation lines, comprising 7 non-compensating and 2 compensating emitters, were tested at 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 kPa …
