Implementing Food Science-Based Instruction In Career Technical Education Courses, Jasmine D. Hendrix
Implementing Food Science-Based Instruction In Career Technical Education Courses, Jasmine D. Hendrix
Theses and Dissertations
Students are exposed to food concepts in agriculture-based career technical education (CTE) courses which provide a gateway for students to become more aware of food science career pathways. Professional development for Mississippi (MS) CTE teachers is needed to effectively implement food science-based instruction since there is not a food science curriculum framework adopted in MS. The objective of this study was to assess a food science professional development training for MS CTE teachers that would increase their self-perceived knowledge of food science, self-perceived ability to conduct food science skills, and their self-efficacy to implement food science-based instruction. Thirty-one teachers participated …
Arkansas Soybean Research Studies 2020, Jeremy Ross
Arkansas Soybean Research Studies 2020, Jeremy Ross
Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station Research Series
The 2020 Arkansas Soybean Research Studies includes research reports on topics pertaining to soybean across several disciplines from breeding to post-harvest processing. Research reports contained in this publication may represent preliminary or only data from a single year or limited results; therefore, these results should not be used as a basis for long-term recommendations. Several research reports in this publication will appear in other University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture’s Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station publications. This duplication is the result of the overlap in research coverage between disciplines and our effort to inform Arkansas soybean producers of the research …
To Know The Land With Hands And Minds: Negotiating Agricultural Knowledge In Late-Nineteenth-Century New England And Westphalia, Justus Hillebrand
To Know The Land With Hands And Minds: Negotiating Agricultural Knowledge In Late-Nineteenth-Century New England And Westphalia, Justus Hillebrand
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Ever since the eighteenth century, experts have tried to tell farmers how to farm. The agricultural enlightenment in Europe marked the beginning of a long arc of new experts aiming to change agricultural knowledge and practice. This dissertation analyzes the pivotal period in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century in Germany and the United States when scientists, improvers, and market agents began to develop comprehensive ways to communicate agricultural innovation to farmers. In a functional approach to analyzing the negotiation of agricultural knowledge through its communication in things, words, and practices, this dissertation argues that the process of change …

The plant is a perennial herb native to southern Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, Colombia, and Venezuela. It is commonly known as the Aztec sweet herb, bushy lippia, honey herb, or hierba dulce, used as a natural sweetener and medicinal herb in its native Mexico and parts of Central America. The Aztecs used it and introduced it to the Spanish when they arrived. A compound called Hernandulcin, whose sweetness is about 1,000 times higher than in sucrose, provides the plant’s sweet taste. The plant has low Hernandulcin production in its tissues. Despite its sweetness, it isn’t used in the natural sweetener …
Purple Variety Of Sweet Potato, Ming Gao
Purple Variety Of Sweet Potato, Ming Gao
Datasets Collection
Purple sweet potatoes are versatile enough to be used in cupcakes as well as ice cream. However, when cooked in their natural state, they are dry and starchy, prompting most to use the purple sweet potatoes as flour for baked goods, or in some cases, for ice cream. Dr. Gao wants his variety of purple sweet potato to be more palatable. Gao earned the coveted USDA-National Institute of Food and Agriculture 1890 Institution Capacity Building Grant to support his research. The project will focus on developing a variety that is enjoyable in its natural state and is moist and tastefully …
Postharvest Salicylic Acid And Melatonin Dipping Delay Ripening And Improve Quality Of ‘Sensation’ Mangoes, Mohamed A. Awad, Adel D. Al-Qurashi
Postharvest Salicylic Acid And Melatonin Dipping Delay Ripening And Improve Quality Of ‘Sensation’ Mangoes, Mohamed A. Awad, Adel D. Al-Qurashi
The Philippine Agricultural Scientist
Freshly harvested mature-green ‘Sensation’ mangoes were dipped for 10 min in 2 mM salicylic acid (SA) and 0.2 mM melatonin (MT) alone or in combination and stored at 23±1°C and 60–70%RH. SA or MT delayed ripening measured as higher green peel color (lower a* values), firmness, titratable acidity (TA) and membrane stability index (MSI) and lower weight loss, total soluble solids (TSS), TSS/TA ratio and hydrolytic enzyme activities (polygalacturonase, xylanase and α-amylase) compared to that of untreated fruit. Total phenolic content (TPC) in peel of treated fruit increased with fluctuations during ripening and was higher than the control. In pulp, …

Baseline Sensitivity To Demethylation Inhibitors Fungicides In Cercospora Spp. And Corynespora Spp. In Arkansas Soybeans, Evan Buckner, Alejandro Rojas
Discovery, The Student Journal of Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences
Cercospora spp. and Corynespora spp. are two common foliar fungal pathogens in Arkansas and other soybean-producing areas. Two primary diseases caused by Cercospora spp. are Cercospora Leaf Blight (CLB, caused mainly by C. kikuchii) and Frogeye Leaf Spot (C. sojina). Over time, many fungicides used to combat these diseases have become ineffective as the pathogens have developed a resistance to them. The class of the fungicide in question is Triazoles [Demethylation Inhibitors (DMI)–FRAC 3]. Fifteen isolates consisting of Corynespora cassiicola, Cercospora sojina, and Cercospora flagellaris were tested to determine baseline sensitivities using serial dilutions (0, 0.01, 1, 10, 50 mg/L) …
