The changes in the global environmental conditions have placed great challenges on governments, industries, and societies. Business organizations are often blamed for being the sources of theseenvironmental problems. This study aimed to examine the factors influencing the perceived environmental performance of firms certified under the ISO 14001 in Malaysia. A total of 268 manufacturing companies responded to the questionnaires. In this study, structural equation modeling was applied to test the hypotheses. This study identifed X-ray laboratory users’ compliance with the innovated radiographic technique and evaluated it’s effectiveness in decreasing risks of repeating unnecessary X-ray exposure. The use of various steps in the standard operating procedures of radiography, proper radiographic technique and critique, practical protection measures, and radiographic positioning practice in X-ray laboratory at a private radiographic academy in Indonesia were audited. In this study, the photochemical degradation via photo-Fenton process was carried out to degrade dyes in textile industrial wastewaters. Experimental design methodology was also applied for optimizing effects of factors which influencethe effective treatment such as ferric dose, hydroperoxide dosage, initial pH, reaction time and initial chemical oxygen demand (COD). Two independent variables namely colour and COD removal efficiencieswere used to evaluate the treatment yield. Under the optimal conditions, ca. 99% and ca. 88%, colour, and COD were removed, respectively.

This clinical audit identified the compliance rate of ultrasound users to the standard operating procedures (SOP); and identified the factors that led to a compliance rate of ultrasound human users. The review was conducted for six days in a private radiologic academy in Indonesia. Only 23 subjects selected randomly were audited. Of the 23 participants, there were 11 males and 12 females. Of the 11 males, seven were compliant, and three were non-compliant. Of the 12 females, eight were compliant, and four were non-compliant. Wound Healing Post-Mesh Repair ― An Observational Study, Lebbe M.N, Kularajasingham J, Dioso P

This study identified the best surgical mesh repair techniques for inguinal hernia and prevalence of wound healing post-mesh repair. The cross-sectional study design used cluster sampling for data collection. Of the 120 respondents, 48.3% preferred anterior tension-free mesh repair and 49.2% Lichtenstein mesh repair, both identified as the common surgical techniques in eastern Sri Lanka. About 82.5% of the respondents (n = 99) healed while 17% (n = 21) had recurrence of hernia after one month. This research identified evidence of knowledge and caring attitude among Sri Lankan nurses caring for dying patients; and identified the factors affecting nursing care for the dying in the eastern province of Sri Lanka. A quantitative cohort study design was used having questionnaires as the means of collecting the data. The purposive way of sampling selected 120 staff nurses employed in a government hospital as respondents who falls under the inclusion and exclusion criteria.There was significant evidence of caring attitude towards the dying (p = 0.005534) and knowledge on the end-of-life nursing care (p = 0.0004703) for the dying patients. …

The main goal of this study is to elaborate and evaluate the physicochemical properties of the synthetic biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) powder: an associate compound of hydroxyapatite (HA): Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2 and beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP): Ca3(PO4)2. The new compound BCP has two advantages: high bioactivity (HA) and fast biodegradation (β-TCP). The obtained powder of BCP was prepared by the precipitate method. XRD analysis confirmed the synthetic material contained both HA and β-TCP crystalline phases. The effect of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) fruit aqueous extract (OPF) on glucose uptake activity of three different cell lines was investigated. The cell lines were incubated with different concentrations of OPF to evaluate the stimulatory effect of OPF towards glucose uptake activity of L6 myotubes, 3T3F442A adipocytes and Chang liver cell line. The glucose uptake activities of all tested cells were enhanced in the presence of OPF extract (basal condition). In this study, the optimum biodiesel conversion from crude castor oil to castor biodiesel (CB) through transesterification method was investigated. The base catalyzed transesterification under different reactant proportion such as the molar ratio of alcohol to oil and mass ratio of catalyst to oil was studied for optimum production of castor biodiesel. Drivers And Barriers For Going Green: Perceptions From The Business Practitioners In Malaysia, Loke S-P, Khalizani K, Rohati S, Sayaka A

The changes of global environmental conditions have placed great challenges to governments and societies. While it is not easy for the companies to go green, we need a renewed concern for our environment in order to revive the nation’s economic growth, social cohesion and ecological balances. This article identifies the drivers and barriers for the business industry to adopt green practices. A total of 571 business companies from the Perak State participated in this study. Four variables: (1) Regulations (β=0.159, p<0.05); (2) Social responsibility (β=0.201, p<0.05); (3) Pro-environmental organizational culture (β=0.389, p<0.01); and (4) Organizational supports (β=0.369, p<0.01) werefound to significantly affect the company’s green initiatives. The results indicated that the main internal barriers were: it lacked of financial resources (66.2%) and skilled staff (63.9%); whereas the main external barriers were: the penalty imposed were not severe enough for making any extra efforts (64.8%) and the penalty was light for violation of environmental regulations (63.2%). This research had implications for the academics, practitioners and policy makers. It provided greater insights into the green practices in Malaysian firms. The research findings also urged the local governments to greatly enhance regulatory scrutiny on the production and manufacturing industries.

Inexpensive bidentate Schiff base ligands (O1, O3) and their Pd(II) complexes (OPd1, OPd3) were successfully synthesized and characterized using CHN elemental analysis, FTIR, 1H and 13C NMR, melting point determination, molar conductivity and magnetic moment. It revealed that these Schiff bases behaved as bidentate ligands in their complexes. The spectral data indicated that the ligands co-ordinated through the phenolic oxygen and the azomethine nitrogen atoms. Magnetic momentdata suggested the existence of square planar Pd(II) complexes, while non-electrolytic behaviour indicated the absence of counter ions in chloroform. In this proposed model, restriction, frictional and elevational losses were considered separately. The frictional and static losses were approached by using Lockhart_Martinelli correlation. This model was tested to predict the pressure drop across the elbows with inside diameter of 0.036 m and R/D = 0.6, 2.5. The objectives of this study were to isolate yeasts from fermented kitchen waste and to determine their ethanol production performances. The essential oils of the leaves and seed of Dryobalanops aromatica Gaertn. obtained by hydrodistillation resulted in 0.07% and 1.89% yield, respectively. These oils were then examined by GC-MS. Eighty-three components (plus an unknown) were identified from the leaf oil, representing 92% of the oil. Oxygenated monocyclic monoterpenes (terpinen-4-ol 15%, α-terpineol 16%), bicyclic monoterpene (α-pinene 7%) and oxygenated bicyclic sesquiterpene (globulol 8%) were the major constituents. Nine existing mixture viscosity models were tested for predicting a two-phase pressure drop for oil-water flow and refrigerant (R.134a) flow. The predicted data calculated by using these mixture viscosity models were compared with experimental data. Predicted data from using one group of mixture viscosity models had a good agreement with the experimental data for oil-water two-phase flow. Another group of viscosity models was preferable for gas-liquid flow, but these models gave underestimated values with an error of about 50%. Bioactive secondary metabolites derived from herbs are examined for their suitability of conversion into nanoforms having flexible morphological controls, surface stabilizations and surface functionalization. This can lead to stable chemical conjugations based on molecular recognition for their possible applications in the form of smart pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, cosmaceuticals and many other related areas of human healthcare using green chemistry routes.
