First Record And Detailed Description Of The Male Of Ilyocypris Inermis Kaufmann, 1900 (Crustacea, Ostracoda), Necmetti̇n Sari, Okan Külköylüoğlu, Derya Akdemi̇r

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Bisexual populations of Ilyocypris inermis Kaufmann, 1900 were reported for the first time from 5 different aquatic bodies in Bolu and Erzincan (Turkey). The males were compared with the males of the other 11 species of the genus Ilyocypris (I. australiensis, I. biplicata, I. decipiens, I. dentifera, I. divisa, I. fallax, I. getica, I. gibba, I. lacustris, I. mongolica, and I. monstrifica) and described based on examinations of the soft body parts (e.g., hemipenis, legs, clasping organs) and valves. Ecological characteristics of habitats where the bisexual populations found were discussed for future studies.

Sponge (Porifera) Species From The Mediterranean Coast Of Turkey (Levantine Sea, Eastern Mediterranean), With A Checklist Of Sponges From The Coasts Of Turkey, Alper Evcen, Meli̇h Ertan Çinar

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The present study deals with sponge species collected along the Mediterranean coast of Turkey in 2005. A total of 29 species belonging to 19 families were encountered, of which Phorbas plumosus is a new record for the eastern Mediterranean, 8 species are new records for the marine fauna of Turkey (Clathrina clathrus, Spirastrella cunctatrix, Desmacella inornata, Phorbas plumosus, Hymerhabdia intermedia, Haliclona fulva, Petrosia vansoesti, and Ircinia dendroides), and 19 species are new records for the Levantine Sea (C. clathrus, Sycon raphanus, Erylus discophorus, Alectona millari, Cliona celata, Diplastrella bistellata, Mycale contareni, Mycale cf. rotalis, Mycale lingua, D. inornata, P. plumosus, …

Scale Insect (Hemiptera: Coccoidea) Species On Pine Trees Of Turkey, Selma Ülgentürk, Nevzat Evren, Bi̇kem Ayhan, Özlem Dostbi̇l, Oktay Dursun, Hasan Sungur Ci̇velek

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Coccoidea species on pine trees (Pinus brutia, P. halepensis, and P. pinea) were collected from natural pine forests, mainly in the Aegean, Mediterranean, and some neighboring (Central Anatolian, Marmara) regions of Turkey in 2008-2011. A total of 14 species were determined from Coccidae (2 species), Diaspididae (8 species) Marchalinidae (1 species), Matsucoccidae (1 species), Monophlebidae (1 species), and Pseudococcidae (1 species), and 2 of them (Gomezmenoraspis pinicola Leonardi and Poaspis intermedia Goux) are new records for Turkish fauna. While the most common pests were respectively Leucaspis pusilla Löw, Marchalina hellenica Gennadius, Matsucoccus josephi (Bodenheimer and Harpaz), G. pinicola, and Palaeococcus …

New Record Of Lynx Lynx (L., 1758) In Turkey (Mammalia: Carnivora), İrfan Albayrak Jan 2012

New Record Of Lynx Lynx (L., 1758) In Turkey (Mammalia: Carnivora), İrfan Albayrak

Turkish Journal of Zoology

This paper reports the morphological characteristics of a subadult lynx, Lynx lynx, collected in 2005 from Ardanuç in Artvin Province. Pelage color, hair structure, and some cranial measurements of this specimen and other recent records of Turkish lynxes are given, including that from Beyaz Dağ in Şırnak Province in the southeastern part of Turkey collected during field work and a skin from an unknown locality in Isparta. It was concluded that Turkish lynxes are likely to represent the subspecies L. lynx dinniki based on a comparison of morphometric values given in the literature.

Skull Features Of The Common Vole (Microtus Arvalis Sensu Lato) From Hungary: Craniometrical Evidence For Its Taxonomic Detachment, Georgi Markov, Gabor Csorba, Maria Kocheva, Milena Gospodinova Jan 2012

Skull Features Of The Common Vole (Microtus Arvalis Sensu Lato) From Hungary: Craniometrical Evidence For Its Taxonomic Detachment, Georgi Markov, Gabor Csorba, Maria Kocheva, Milena Gospodinova

Turkish Journal of Zoology

A revision was carried out on 245 adult skull specimens of the common vole (Microtus arvalis sensu lato) kept in the mammal collection of the Hungarian Natural History Museum in Budapest. A highly effective craniometric classification function was used to reveal whether they belonged to the common vole (M. arvalis Pallas, 1778 sensu stricto) or to the East European vole (Microtus levis Miller, 1908). It was found that M. levis specimens were present in the Hungarian mammal fauna; the boundaries of that animal's European range were thus expanded in the west. The distribution of the East European vole and the …

Karyological Characteristics, Morphological Peculiarities, And A New Distribution Locality For Talpa Davidiana (Mammalia: Soricomorpha) In Turkey, Mustafa Sözen, Ferhat Matur, Faruk Çolak, Sercan Irmak Jan 2012

Karyological Characteristics, Morphological Peculiarities, And A New Distribution Locality For Talpa Davidiana (Mammalia: Soricomorpha) In Turkey, Mustafa Sözen, Ferhat Matur, Faruk Çolak, Sercan Irmak

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Talpa davidiana is the least known species of the genus Talpa, and the karyotype of this species is still unknown. Its distribution records are also very scattered. The karyological, cranial, and pelvic characteristics of 2 samples from Kızıldağ in Adana Province were analyzed for the first time. It was determined that T. davidiana has 2n = 34, NF = 66, and NFa = 62. The X chromosome was large and metacentric and the Y chromosome was dot-like acrocentric. The 2 samples are different from each other, and from previous T. davidiana records, in terms of their lower incisor and premolar …
