Fish Biodiversity In Zhanjiang Mangroves National Nature Reserve, China, Juan Lei, Yongyan Liao, Wei Tang, Dong Xie, Teng Wang, Wen Xiong, Peter A. Bowler
Turkish Journal of Zoology
China's mangroves provide important habitat for many endangered fish species, but, there has been little research upon the diversity and the distribution of fish species within mangroves habitats. To compile an inventory of fish fauna in this field, a total of 14 ichthyological surveys were conducted in Zhanjiang Mangrove during different seasons between August 2016 and December 2019. A total of 208 fish species have identified belonging to 18 orders, 69 families and 142 genera from Zhanjiang Mangroves National Nature Reserve, the largest mangrove habitat in China. Of these 17 species are listed as threatened species in the IUCN Red …

A New Brachineurini Genus And Two New Species(Diptera: Cecidomyiidae: Cecidomyiinae) From Yunnan, China, Ke-Long Jiao, Hao Wang, Wen-Jun Bu
Turkish Journal of Zoology
A new free-living genus of the mycophagous tribe Brachineurini, Loborrhizomyia gen. nov., and its type species (Loborrhizomyia phaneroectata sp. nov.) and another new species (Loborrhizomyia aphanata sp. nov.) are described from the Caiyang River Nature Reserve, Pu?er, Yunnan, China. The new genus is characterized in the tribe Brachineurini by the unique gonostylus having a ventral lobe protruding to the distal. The taxonomic status of the new genus and two new species is discussed with a comparison between the other related groups and an updated key to all known Brachineurini genera including the new genus is provided.

Euscorpius
Comparative statistical analysis of morphology of Mesobuthus martensii and Mesobuthus eupeus (Scorpiones: Buthidae) indicated highly significant differences between these two species. Mann-Whitney U test showed that: except Ca_L/AW, Ca_AW/PW and Met-V_L/H in female, Ca_AW/PW and Met-V_L/H in male, all morphometric ratios demonstrated significant differences between M. martensii and M. eupeus. Principal component analysis (PCA) showed that M. martensii and M. eupeus are clearly different species in morphology. Three statistical analyses (Kruskal-Wallis one-way ANOVA, PCA and cluster analysis) were applied to M.martensii from 27 confirmed localities in five provinces of northern China. The results suggested that: (a) Although M. martensii is …

Human-caused biodiversity loss is a global problem, large carnivores are particularly threatened, and the tiger (Panthera tigris) is among the world’s most endangered large carnivores. The South China tiger (Panthera tigris amoyensis) is the most critically endangered tiger subspecies and is considered functionally extinct in the wild. The government of China has expressed its intent to reintroduce a small population of South China tigers into a portion of their historic range as part of a larger goal to recover wild tiger populations in China. This would be the world’s first major tiger reintroduction program. A free-ranging population of 15–20 tigers …

Brackish Water Snails From Qi'ao-Dan'gan Island In The Pearl River Estuary, China, Yafang Li, Runlin Xu
Turkish Journal of Zoology
Eight brackish water snails belonging to 5 families are described. All the samples were taken from 3 different types of water body. They were taken from 1 littoral of an artificial brackish lake, 1 intertidal zone of a brackish tidal river, and 3 mangrove swamps on Qi'ao Island in the Pearl River estuary, Guangdong Province, southern China. Assiminea estuarina Habe, 1946 and Iravadia (Fairbankia) cochinchinensis Bavey & Dautzenberg, 1910 are new records for China. Cerithidea sinensis Philippi, 1848 was found in a tropical zone for the first time. The finding of Sphaerassiminea brevicula (Pfeiffer, 1855) provided evidence that this species …

The Emerging Dziggetai (Equidae: Equus Hemionus Pallas): An Illustrated History Of Taxonomic Concepts For The Identification, Classification, And Distribution Of Hemiones From Central Asia, Arnd Schreiber
Erforschung biologischer Ressourcen der Mongolei / Exploration into the Biological Resources of Mongolia, ISSN 0440-1298
The history of the discovery and the exploration of the hemione populations (Equus hemionus PALLAS) from Central Asia (Mongolia, northwest China, northeast Tibet, Kazakhstan, and Russian Siberia) from the 13th century to approximately 1950 are compiled with the aim to provide materials for a taxonomic and population genetic revision of the dziggetais. Data on their phenotypic differentiation, historical distribution status, and their husbandry history in European zoological gardens, are reviewed, as is the gradual emergence of concepts of how to identify and to classify these populations. Hemiones were an important historical case in the discussion of how to represent …
