The Status Of Birds In The Proposed Rum Wildlife Reserve, Southern Jordan, Michael Evans, Zuhair Sami Amr, Ratib M. Al-Oran

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature officially proposed the creation of the Rum Wildlife Reserve, in the extreme south of Jordan, in 1979. We present the first review of the birds of the proposed reserve and its environs, drawing upon published and unpublished records as well as a short field survey from June, 1996. A total of 142 species have been recorded, of which at least 34 species actually breed and another 14 probably do so. Most breeding species are (a) Saharo-Arabian desertic species, or (b) non-desertic species which have colonised the area due to the advent of …

Birds Of Nallıhan Bird Paradise (Central Anatolia, Turkey), Utku Perktaş, Zafer Ayaş

Turkish Journal of Zoology

This study was conducted in Nallıhan Bird Paradise (Nallıhan, Ankara), which displays seasonal wetland characteristics. Within the scope of this study, a 12 month field study between August 2000 and July 2001 was carried out in order to determine the avifauna of Nallıhan Bird Paradise. One hundred and thirty bird species belonging to 14 orders and 41 families were recorded in the study area. It was concluded that this area was probably used by a total of 41 actual and/or possible bird species for breeding purposes.

The Birds Of Dicle Dam (Diyarbakır), Recep Karakaş, Ahmet Kiliç

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The birds of Dicle Dam, which is located 50 km north-east of Diyarbakır city centre, were studied between February 2000 and February 2002. During the observation period 116 bird species that belong to 15 orders and 38 families were determined and listed. Among these species defined, 44 of them certainly and 26 presumably breed in the area, while 46 of them are transitory migrating or wintering birds for the region. Three species are globally under threat. The determination of bird species will help in the evaluation and comparison of possible changes regarding the bird fauna in the future.

The Avifauna Of Termessos National Park (Antalya-Turkey), Hakan Sert, Ali̇ Erdoğan

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The bird fauna of Termessos National Park, in south-central Anatolia about 37 km north-west of Antalya city centre, was studied between October 1998 and April 2000. In the study area, 113 species of forest and mountain birds, belonging to 32 families, were recorded. Their residence status is as follows: 50 residents (R), 40 summer (S) and 14 winter visitors (W), 5 vagrants (V) and 4 passage migrants (Pm). To show the national and international importance of Termessos National Park, the numbers of threatened bird species are compared with the Red Data Book of Turkey (total 51 threatened species: A.1.2 = …

Investigations On The Ornitho - Fauna Of Turkish Thrace I, Mustafa Kaya, Selçuk Yurtsever, Cengi̇z Kurtonur

Turkish Journal of Zoology

In this study, the results of observations made in different localities (Edirne and environs, the Istranca Mountains, Iğneada and environs) of the Thrace region are evaluated. Field work was carried out during the period 1987-1996, comprising a total of 228 working days in the field. The findings were discussed and compared with data currently available in the literature. As a result, 179 species belonging to 50 families were recorded. These species and related data are collated in a table. The importance of the region and the problems that threaten the ornito-fauna are discussed.
