Turkish Journal of Zoology
The aim of this study was to learn the invasion speed and sex ratio, which would be indicative of invasive character, of a nonnative fish species, gibel carp, by reporting its new localities in the Marmara region of northwestern Turkey. Whether the occurrence of gibel carp in freshwater bodies of the Marmara region was random (i.e. chance element) was tested. The question of population increase since first introduction was also examined. Among 14 new locations for gibel carp found during this study, the majority were in mostly lentic ecosystems. The invasion rate of gibel carp in the Marmara region, since …

The Spatial And Temporal Distributions Of Waterbirds In Lakes Akşehir-Eber And Lake Köyceğiz In Western Anatolia, Turkey - A Comparative Analysis, Fulya Saygili, Nuri̇ Yi̇ği̇t, Şafak Bulut
Turkish Journal of Zoology
The waterbirds at 2 wetlands (Lakes Akşehir-Eber and Köyceğiz) in western Turkey were compared to determine their spatial and temporal distributions along with their habitat characteristics. The waterbirds were evaluated according to whether they were residents, winter migrants, summer migrants, or transit migrants and were assigned to foraging behavior groups. At Lakes Akşehir-Eber, 67 waterbird species belonging to 17 families and 9 orders were observed, while at Lake Köyceğiz 42 species belonging to 14 families and 9 orders were recorded. The waterbird fauna in both lake systems is composed of the following bird groups in the same order of occurrence: …

Notes On The Halictus Latreille (Hymenoptera: Halictidae) Fauna Of Turkey, Fati̇h Di̇kmen, Ahmet Murat Ayteki̇n
Turkish Journal of Zoology
The Halictidae collections of the Natural History Museum of Vienna (Austria), the Oberösterreichisches Landesmuseum of Linz (Austria), and the Université de Mons-Hainaut (Belgium) were inspected in order to review the Halictus Latreille (Halictidae: Hymenoptera) fauna of Turkey. Added to this were data from the literature as well as data collected during our personal field studies in the central Anatolian and Mediterranean regions of Turkey between the years 2000 and 2009. Distribution maps are presented of 34 species from Turkey. In addition, information on world distributions and foraged flowers is given. This study reviews the status of the genus in Turkey …

Review Of Palearctic And Australian Species Of Bootanomyia Girault 1915 (Hymenoptera: Torymidae: Megastigminae), With Descriptions Of New Species, Mi̇kdat Doğanlar
Turkish Journal of Zoology
The world species of Bootanomyia Girault (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea, Torymidae) are reviewed. Nine species are transferred from Megastigmus to Bootanomyia as new combinations: B. almusiensis (Doğanlar, 1989), B. dorsalis (Fabricius 1789), B. dumicola (Boucek 1982), B. habui (Kamijo, 1962), B. maculipennis (Yasumatsu and Kamijo, 1979), B. nipponicus (Yasumatsu and Kamijo, 1979), B. stigmatizans (Fabricious 1789), B. synophri (Mayr 1874), and B. zhaoi (Xu & He, 2003). Megastigmus bohemanii Ratzeburg, 1848 is reinstated as a species from synonymy under M. dorsalis Fabricius and transferred to Bootanomyia as B. bohemanii (Ratzeburg, 1848) (comb. and status n.). Seven species are described as new species: …

Arcyptera Microptera (Fischer De Waldheim, 1833) (Orthoptera: Acrididae) Has Become Extinct In The Czech Republic, Jaroslav Holusa
Turkish Journal of Zoology
In the past, the grasshopper Arcyptera microptera microptera was present in the Czech Republic on the northern edge of its range. A stable population was known only in a single location (Pouzdrany Steppe-Kolby National Nature Reserve). The abundance of A. microptera microptera at this location declined during the 20th century, and only a few specimens from this location exist in the depositories of museums in the Czech Republic. At each of 2 other locations (Kobyli and the Kamenny vrch u Kurdejova Nature Reserve), only a single male was discovered in the past. In several extensive surveys conducted in the Czech …

Scaphopod Species (Mollusca) Of The Turkish Levantine And Aegean Seas, Bi̇lal Öztürk
Turkish Journal of Zoology
An examination of benthic material collected from different depths (0-875 m) and habitats along the Turkish Levantine and Aegean seas between 1996 and 2008 has resulted in the identification of 819 scaphopod specimens, belonging to 10 species: Antalis dentalis (Linneaus, 1758), Antalis inaequicostata (Dautzenberg, 1891), Antalis panorma (Chenu, 1843), Antalis rossati (Caprotti, 1966), Antalis vulgaris (da Costa, 1778), Fustiaria rubescens (Deshayes, 1825), Entalina tetragona (Brocchi, 1814), Pulsellum lofotense (M. Sars, 1865), Cadulus jeffreysi (Monterosato, 1875), and Dischides politus (S. Wood, 1842). Of these, P. lofotense and C. jeffreysi are new records for the Aegean molluscan fauna and A. panorma and …

Freshwater Ostracoda (Crustacea) Of Diyarbakır Province, Including A New Report For Turkey, Derya Akdemi̇r, Okan Külköylüoğlu
Turkish Journal of Zoology
During the summer (July-August) of 2007, a total of 23 freshwater ostracods belonging to 14 genera were collected from 50 out of 90 different bodies of water in Diyarbakır. Of these 23 finds, Herpetocypris intermedia is a new report for Turkish ostracod fauna. In addition, 11 species (Ilyocypris decipiens, I. inermis, Eucypris virens, Herpetocypris brevicaudata, Psychrodromus fontinalis, Isocypris beauchampi, Potamocypris similis, P. unicaudata, P. arcuata, Limnocythere stationis, and L. inopinata) are reported from this city for the first time. The geographical distribution of some species is extended into the eastern parts of Turkey. Our results also suggest that species with …
