Freshwater Oligochaetes (Oligochaeta, Clitellata, Annelida) Of North Pribaikalye (East Siberia, Russia), Irina Kaygorodova, Piet F.M. Verdonschot, Lyubov S. Kravtsova
Turkish Journal of Zoology
The oligochaete fauna of freshwater reservoirs and rivers in North Pribaikalye was investigated for the first time. In total, 38 oligochaete species were collected. Of these, 16 species belong to the subfamily Naidinae, 6 to Pristininae, and 10 to the 3 subfamilies of Tubificidae. In addition, 5 species belonging to Enchytraeidae and 1 widespread species belonging to the family Lumbriculidae, Lumbriculus variegatus, were collected.

Microtaxonomy Of Fragmenting Enchytraeus Species Using Molecular Markers, With A Comment On Species Complexes In Enchytraeids, Rut Collado, Eva Hass-Cordes, Ruediger Schmelz
Turkish Journal of Zoology
Populations of Enchytraeus that reproduce by fragmentation are distributed worldwide, but their species-level taxonomy is unresolved because morphological differences are inconclusive. Therefore, we compared the isozyme and RAPD-PCR patterns of 5 populations of fragmenting enchytraeids from widely distant localities (Japan, Iran, Greece, and Brazil). Among these populations, 3 were identified (E. japonensis, E. bigeminus, and E. dudichi) and 2 were unidentified. Multiple isozyme bands suggested polyploidy in all investigated populations. In all RAPD-PCR algorithms except 1, the fragmenting group formed a cluster separate from 2 nonfragmenting Enchytraeus species. All 5 populations were clearly separable on the levels of protein and …
About The Scientific Names Of Paraphyletic Taxa, Tarmo Timm
About The Scientific Names Of Paraphyletic Taxa, Tarmo Timm
Turkish Journal of Zoology
The 'naturality' of monophyletic taxa in comparison with that of paraphyletic ones is discussed, with examples from Clitellata. Regular scientific names for paraphyletic taxa are inevitable in a workable biological classification.
Distribution Of Aquatic Oligochaetes (Annelida, Clitellata) Of High-Elevation Lakes In The Eastern Black Sea Range Of Turkey, Seray Yildiz, Murat Özbek, Mustafa Ruşen Ustaoğlu, Haşi̇m Sömek
Distribution Of Aquatic Oligochaetes (Annelida, Clitellata) Of High-Elevation Lakes In The Eastern Black Sea Range Of Turkey, Seray Yildiz, Murat Özbek, Mustafa Ruşen Ustaoğlu, Haşi̇m Sömek
Turkish Journal of Zoology
Many large and small lakes of varying depths are present in the Eastern Black Sea Range of Turkey, the nation's third most important glacial region following the Ağrı and Cilo-Sat mountain ranges. During the present study, 6 expeditions to collect aquatic oligochaetes from these lakes were conducted in July and August of 2005, 2006, and 2007; qualitative and quantitative samples were collected from 59 glacial lakes. We present and analyze the dominancy and distribution of aquatic oligochaete assemblages and their relation to environmental factors (temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, electrical conductivity, salinity, turbidity, PO_4^{-3}-P, HCO_3^{-}, organic carbon, hardness, Ca^{2+}, Mg^{2+}, Si, …
Distribution And Diversity Of Aquatic Oligochaeta In Small Streams Of The Middle Taiga, Maria Baturina
Distribution And Diversity Of Aquatic Oligochaeta In Small Streams Of The Middle Taiga, Maria Baturina
Turkish Journal of Zoology
The goal of the present study was to describe the fauna, community structure, distribution, diversity, abundance, and ecology of Oligochaeta in small streams of the Komi Republic. The work was performed in 13 streams located in the Vychegda River basin during the month of July, 2005-2008. During the study, 48 taxa from 7 families were collected. The habitat of each study stream was determined with respect to chemical water composition (Na^+, Mg^{2+}, Ca^{2+}, Cl^-, and total phosphorus (P^{tot}), among others) and some environmental factors: bottom structure (hard or soft), water temperature, depth, flow velocity, moss or algae cover, etc. The …
Profundal Oligochaete Assemblages In Palaearctic Lakes, Tarmo Timm
Profundal Oligochaete Assemblages In Palaearctic Lakes, Tarmo Timm
Turkish Journal of Zoology
The profundal oligochaete fauna is mostly formed of species present also in shallower waters. Endemic taxa have developed only in ancient rift lakes like Lake Baikal. "Common" lakes, mostly of glacial or volcanic origin, are too ephemeral for speciation. In the profundal of larger European oligotrophic lakes, there can occur about 10 tubificid and lumbriculid species. With a decline in dissolved oxygen in water, only 1-2 of them will remain, Tubifex tubifex often being the last survivor. In eutrophic lakes, Potamothrix hammoniensis is the climax species. In the Far East, the profundal is also inhabited by a small assortment of …
